    If Jerry Sloan should had stayed as a head coach of Chicago Bulls from 1980 until 2000 then the entire '90s decade would dominate that franchise on the NBA Finals and probably they'll get 7 or 8 championships instead of 6 , imagine that.
    And the management of Chicago Bulls in the early '80s didn't gave him a chance to be part of the coaching staff in spite that he's an Illinois native and played on that franchise twice from 1966-67 & 1975-76 and retired his #4 jersey there, and that's freakingly sad.
    Now he's gone & got no championship rings on his fingers, however he'd revolutionized pick & roll on the NBA in which we'd seen it on every game on that league just like the Triangle Offense. And thankfully, he was featured on the documentary series "The Last Dance" on the 2 matches between the Bulls & Jazz and that will be his tribute. #RIPJerrySloan and we'll miss you.

    Sloan implemented the offense while at Chicago and Utah, but credit should go to his long time assistant, Phil Johnson. Johnson was a protege of Dick Motta while as an assistant coach for him in the 60s, who in turn brought Motta’s Flex offensive sets to the Jazz.

    It is so good to show the young generation how great these teams in the 90s were. No superteams with 3-4 superstars but great 1-2 punches with great role players. This was why the warriors were so good before the KD era. Steph and Klay were the 1-2 punch and then great role players in Bogut, Draymond etc.

    • @dylanlange9235
      @dylanlange9235 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Bulls were that team. Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, as well as a bunch of other former All-Stars they absorbed from other teams. Long before that, you had plenty of superteams in the Magic, Kareem, Worthy Lakers in the 80s, Wilt, West, Baylor Lakers in the 60s/70s, 80s Celtics with Bird, Walton, McHale, and all those other guys... "Superteams" aren't some messed-up facet of the modern game. They've been around since basketball began. Players want to win and teams want to bring as many great players together as possible. That has always been true.

    While I generally like Bballbreakdown videos, the lack of explanation of terminology degrades the whole experience. Not two minutes into the video, we hear about a "rip screen", but I have no idea what that is, even though I'm supposedly looking at it. I suggest Coach Nick create a playlist of very short youtube videos, each one dedicated to SHOWING (with some simple animated lines) what a single example of terminology means. He can then link to these explanatory videos in the blurb section.
    If he wants to basically just talk to coaches, and coached players, fine, just say so. It''s his channel. Lacking further explanation, though, I think it's misleading to even pretend that he wants to address a wider audience.
    Maybe I will figure out what a "rip screen" is by the end of the video, but I doubt it.

    • @bballbreakdown
      @bballbreakdown  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry you feel that way, and I should’ve added the lines. I felt some pressure to get this out as quickly as possible or I would’ve. Thankfully, we have the comments. A rip screen is when a guard sets a screen near the elbow for a big going towards the basket in order to get good position for a post up

    RIP Jerry Sloan. Although we've never met and never will, I do believe he was a good man. With that being said, his career was a clear case of mediocracy. The only legendary thing about Coach Sloan was sticking around the most coveted ball league in the world and remaining on the payroll for 40+years!!! Truly remarkable (no sarcasm here) considering how hard it is to get into the league and have a shot at the championship. I'm thinking about David Blatt, a great coach, being fired 6 months before his team wins the trophy after being with the Cavs for only 1,5 seasons. Life is not supposed to be fair, but at least Coach Sloan was fairly compensated for his efforts. Let's just not mix him up with John Wooden or Dean Smith just because of some empty numbers and famous people saying things because they have to.
