Shawn...THANK YOU for these videos! I am so proud of you for FINALLY making a descent CUTTING BOARD!!! Also, the bond of you and Cali warms my heart!!!
Paradise on Earth. So quiet. You are one of my heroes dude. Making your life happen is an equation harder than any algebra I ever did. You do it every day at the cabin. I salute you.
Remember the days when as kids the snow would be deeper that we were tall? Miss those days. The cabin and trees look beautiful covered. It’s what a Canadian winter should be. Hope you and Cali keep warm tonight😀
Gotta tell you, Shawn, your videos have become an important part of my day--so calming and conducive of warm thoughts. You've even motivated me to get out (rainy and snowy here too) and manage the wood lot that is my half acre.
My golden retriever talks to me like Cali did! He grunts when he’s happy, or when he wants something, you get to be able to understand it. I love it and couldn’t imaging having a dog that doesn’t “talk” like that!
From London, UK. Just discovered your channel. Absolutely awesome. Love how resourceful you are with your home steading in the woods. Love it, and have always yearn to do exactly what you are doing here. We'll done, looking forward to seeing other videos.
Probably the few times we hear you laugh is your interactions with Cali. She is a source of happiness for you and all of us. Bless her little grunts. ^__^
The opening shot with you just relaxing over an early morning cup looks like pure bliss. I yearn for that instead of catching a bus into the city for work...
I'm in HK and missing your kind of life so much. I can't wait to get the holiday and go to a snowy place to relax, no phone, no people, just me and the wind. Look at all that snow!
Love your channel. Have always dreamed of having a one room cabin. Glad there’s no bad language. You are a gentleman. Would love to see more of your wife on the videos.
Definitely reminds me of my youth in Minnesota... long winters with cold temperatures and abundant snow. I was charged with responsibility for shoveling the driveway and sidewalk so I know snow well... and am happy I no longer have to contend with it. Forty-five years in California has made snow a very distant memory. But I love watching your videos Shawn. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to create these wonderful pieces. That quality is a mark of your hard work and creative eye.
Shawn you’re amazing! Don’t get hurt pushing construction videos in icy conditions yours and Cali’s personality will get us through the snow days. Selfishly I appreciate more frequent uploads.
And here is Canada. Snow already. Beautiful. How do you sneak up in scrunching snow? Cali is just the best side kick. She's so attentive to you even as you are to her. So impressed with all you do, Shawn. Thank you. You are such a fine, wise man. God bless you, your wife, and children.
Y ou have A beautiful backdrop ! Snow can make everything stand still but its A reminder for all of us to slow down and enjoy all of its beautiful .God bless ,
Would have been cool/interesting to have an aerial shot of the pond area/cabin/beaver dam while you were describing the area/hunting ground. Love the pace of your videos too. Informatively chilled out! Great channel.
Since our dogs passed away a couple years ago we now have deer walking by our cabin regularly...but still my husband had to head up north to hunt with my brothers! For him it’s more of a social activity and we aren’t relying on filling the larder with venison. Great videos, Shawn. I was asking myself why I liked them so much and I figured out it was my upbringing. I grew up on a farm in northern Minnesota, we ate venison, fish, rabbit, whatever to keep us going. Cooked on a wood stove and heated with wood. Cut firewood every year. I would split and stack it (along with 7 brothers and sisters). Seems like a long time ago, but that must be part of why I enjoy your videos and commentary. Your videos are relaxing. Thanks a bundle, Shawn.
I do appreciate all that you do to keep the video's coming.I know it's a lot of work and I do look everyday to see if a new one is posted. So thank you again and stay warm.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, here in the United States. Wanting to wish you, your family (and Cali too) a Blessed Thanksgiving and hoping for a prosperous Christmas and New Year as well. Take care and enjoy all you do up North.
Thank you for sharing your words with us and allowing us to follow your journey. I live in a city in Denmark and the only wildness is on a small island, the rest of nature is man made by planting trees. God bless you and your family
hi Shawn! cali is the cutest dog on youtube. and i love how you will take the time and play with her while you work. whether it is just giving her a good petting or throwing her toy. you can tell she loves you and you love her. a pet is a part of the family after all :D
Hi Shawn, well your winter is upon you ,it cold in the uk now but nothing like your winter ❄️ we will most likely get snow in a months time now that your under the white blanket, looking forward to the next video.Graham .
Hey brudder..the Copelands are wishing you a time of peaceful reflection on every single blessing..a real time of content filled Thanksgiving..in spite of knowing your holiday has already come and gone..unity is something to be thankful for
I remember in the 50's in the Catskills of NY when we had icy snows, and the deer couldn't break through to their normal browse, local hunters would gather 'drop apples' and other 'deer food' to help get the deer through the extreme winters. We were criticized by the NY state Game Commission for this practice and were sometimes penalized. I am surprised that same mentality isn't the norm in Canada today. Back then we didn't have nearly as great a population of white tail deer as now. I enjoy your documentary style videos, I always learn something after watching, thanks for all your efforts.
OMG, Shawn it is absolutely beautiful. I love the snow & where I live at present we only get teased with it. Makes me so mad. I want so much to go some place where it is almost impossible to even get out of the house. Just build a BIG fire, put on some soup to slowly simmer & sit back with my dog Paddy & just enjoy no worries. I love watching your videos & it is a treat to find a new one. This one slipped up on me. I don't enjoy regular television & I am among-st many to find your videos more entertaining than anything they could come up with to catch our attention. I find your's far more entertaining & educational. Thank you for continuing to share with us. Give Cali a BIG hug from me & Paddy.
What about a tarp tent over your logs and sauna if you get a break in weather knocking the snow off that might be better than off the logs a large rope between trees Staked to the ground might keep you working longer and warmer
Shawn you’ve been working so hard and we appreciate your passion to upload your vedeos for us and you deserve to take a break for now and relax and enjoy that beautiful scenery there in the Canadian wilderness with the snow. I see Callie loves her new toy. She is so cute!! God Bless!!
Try to not stress with all of the things your not doing because of the weather. Dont worry about us and when we see another video. Go at your own pace and just enjoy what your doing . Hugs for Cali.
You know what I love is watching sunrises, which is why I bought a house that faces east, except next door is a agricultural farm....the warm summer morning breeze which bring the horse crap smell sometimes ruins it! Great video.
Greetings from PEI Shawn. Early winter on the East Coast as well. Rare we get snow in November that stays. Well, it started last week and winter looks to be locked and loaded. Wood stove on full tonight for me. Normally in the shoulder season it's Black Spruce for me, but now it's White Birch. I have limited hardwoods on my 4 acres, so I use it sparingly. Biggest game on the Island is Grouse, Goose and Duck. A Co-worker brought in some Goose Jerky she made, was fantastic. I use my wood stove for most cooking all winter , as well as heating dishwater. I've even had a local welding company make a vertical plate with feet stands to slide in the stove down the middle. I bake with cast iron, roasts , chickens etc on one side and burn on the other. The 1/4 in metal plate is tall enough in the stove to reach to just sky of the airwash bars. @55 I love your vids, a younger me would have learned all your skills, alas I'm quite good at gardening, and some DIY Solar. Keep the vids coming
So soothing to see simple solvable problems simply solved. Your videos create alpha waves in my brain. I notice you rarely freak out about the stock market or Trump. That makes you solid gold viewing brother!
@@fredmoller1675 When I first started watching I liked all the videos as I went along to help me keep track of which ones I had seen. Now that I'm caught up I just like them before I watch. Never been wrong yet :)
The snow is beautiful. We are having an early winter here in Texas too. Cali and your orange hat have a really nice contrast to the snow. Thank you for the video!!!
Shawn I remember watching you build the cabin the one you did not say a word .I thought you could not talk.lol I'm glad you can. Keep up the great work.
Hey Shawn. Thanks so much from Bogotá, Colombia! So nice to have a piece of the Canadian wilderness down here. Huge respect for what you're doing. Very neat.
Always amazes me how much that orange glows in low light. Good thing, I had a guy walk up to my blind last weekend. Nice when you're on private land...
A lil tip for Cali's frozen paws. With my 2 I put petroleum jelly between their pads. The only thing you have to watch is when they come back inside, you have to clean it off. Once they are inside relaxing their naturally want to groom themselves. So before they get a chance I wash their paws.
Hi Shawn, Pyke here, from The Netherlands. Let me start off by saying I'm a huge fan of your videos, I think what you're doing is truly amazing. You put a great deal of effort in making your dreams come true, and in my opinion your dreams are about the most healthy, sane and desirable ones youtube has to offer. I would like to comment on the video you posted on the 6t of november, in which you said you were puzzled about why you have a great number of views on your videos, while the number of subscribers does not seem to grow accordingly. Well, unfortunately I cannot give you an answer to that, I have no idea about what's hot and what's not in this crazy world of ours, but I can give you an advice, which is to stop worrying about that. I understand that you are an analytical and results driven person, but why should you want to adjust your ways in order to please more people than you already do ? To me your strength has to do with purity, simplicity, sanity and more of those kind of character traits for which I can't find the English words. So the way I see it is that it would be a shame if you would do a little more of this and maybe some less of that. And therefor I would like to give you a counterweight for your insecurities by telling you that you are THE ONLY youtube channel I subsrcibed to, and that my respect and appreciation for what you do is the reason why this is actually THE FIRST comment I make on a video ever. Please keep doing what you do, knowing that I'll be enjoying each video you post, for as long as you feel like posting them. Shall we say, for 50 years to come ? Okay, great, we have a deal ! Thanks for all the hours of high quality "entertainment" (to me that word does not cover the load, it sounds to plastic, but I can't find a better one), Have a great winter, And I'll be seeing you at the cabin next time around Pyke
I love this stuff. Have always loved the outdoors and the winter. Snow is amazing and very peaceful but you still have to respect it. It’s not so jolly like I’m the movies. I think the only thing that makes living in nature and isolated is the lack of preparation. The amount of videos out there that show people really struggling because they didn’t prepare, they seemed to procrastinate and their videos end up being them trying to play catch up at the last minute. Yes life is unpredictable but it’s easy to designate some time to gather wood and harvest food for your survival. Nothing else is going on out there to where you can’t be on top of your stuff. I’m talking about the basic things not the more complicated ones. Heat, food and water is number 1. Beautiful dog.
I'm so happy to see all the snow so early! I'm planning a girls getaway out that way. We're celebrating my cancer treatments completion. We want a great snowy vacation and not have to travel to Muskoka. I prefer to stay closer to home and not spend too much time on the highway. Enjoy! 🌨❄⛄
Aww, Cali wants pancakes too! They look delicious. The snow is pristeen and beautiful unlike here in the city. Really enjoy your videos. Best thing that happened to TH-cam! 🐕🐾🌿
It our rifle season here in West Virginia my daughter and I both got a deer this week and my youngest daughter missed one. I have been taking them hunting with me since they were 5 years old. Teaching them how to live off the land and to grow their own food. We hope you get you a deer too. Be safe and stay warm.
You, sir, are a continual inspiration to me. I would love to get bundled up and try to keep up with you as your helper for the day. I've got some off grid property near Cadillac, Michigan where I'm currently in the process of a 16'x16' treehouse in the pines. I only wish I had the time and the abilities to share my stories and the progress we're making on our little chunk of heaven in the woods. The amount of happiness that I've squeezed out of such a small investment is incredible. I encourage as many people as I can to buy rustic, rural property, even if you've got no plans to build a house. The time spent there will satisfy your soul. Keep up the good work, sir. Again, you are inspirational, dont stop what you're doing. Also, the mental health thing you touched on was great. You are in a position to reach a lot of people via youtube. It makes me proud to see you [some guy alone with his dog in the woods] doing such selfless things to even think to try and reach out to the people who may be struggling like that. Good on ya!! Keep it up. Love what you're doing, much respect. DjB
My dogs make noises when they mooch food too. Goes great with the sad puppy eyes and the ever hopeful look they give. Love your videos but, I hope you're not offended when I say, Cali is the best. She has a great disposition and personality. I'd love to see a video of Cali, Finnegan and Scout doing a "dog day afternoon" adventure in the woods. It would be a chore to shoot but that's some serious star power. : )
So very beautiful. A winter wonderland. I'm sure if Cali could talk, she would be thanking your very kind viewer for the toy. Mrs. Shawn should get some photos and put a calendar together. I know I would purshase one. I'm im Tennessee and haven't seen that much snow put together in my life. Wow. Thanks for the vid.
I used to love being out in the countryside, standing quietly out in the snow and it sounding like a black and white movie. Cold, I'm sure, but stunning footage Shawn, thank you.
Since my wife has started watching with me we watch on the smart TV. When we do this together I always come on my computer to give a thumbs up and leave a comment to help you out. My wife really enjoys the cooking and the beautiful sceanery.

Hi from Michigan! I love your videos, especially like this when you just casually roll out little bits of information like how the early snow effects the wildlife and the snow insulation over mud and thin ice. You are a trove of information, thank you always for posting these!
The weather is definitely hampering my projects. Looks like my roof replacement is on hold again. Supposed to get possible 9" of snow today and then artic temps😐 I think if you maybe had some backup leather or carving projects people would dig it👍
Not only can the scope fog up, but the condescension that collects on the steel will cause rust, and can even lock the action up when you go back outside and it freezes. That's why on winter operations, soldiers don't bring their weapons inside the arctic tents.
I’m so not the wilderness type and this is why I watch your videos. Very envious of your lifestyle. Being a professional videographer I can tell you that you have good production value. Keep up the good work. One day I’ll become the wilderness type. Hard to do when you live in the suburbs of Baltimore

Use goose grease on the spaces between her toes to keep the snow from building up and sticking to her fur that's growing there. It really works!
That's a great tip thanks! Our cocker is the original snow magnet..

Thanks for all the hours of high quality "entertainment" (to me that word does not cover the load, it sounds to plastic, but I can't find a better one),
Have a great winter,
And I'll be seeing you at the cabin next time around

Enjoy! 🌨❄⛄
God bless
Andy sinishtaj Thank you Andy that means a lot.
🙏🏻
Shannon Williams Thank you Shannon! I'm not gonna lie, I can use all the prayers I can get. 😔
@@Cyndy101 cyndy may god bless you and heal you....your a sweet soul
Great feeling to be in a nice log cabin with fire and good food while it's cold and snowing outside.
Aww, Cali wants pancakes too! They look delicious. The snow is pristeen and beautiful unlike here in the city. Really enjoy your videos. Best thing that happened to TH-cam! 🐕🐾🌿
Uh, Agree.. Agree.. Agree... and definitely Agree :)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone enjoy the Holiday with family and friends. Another great video Shawn.
Wow. Thanks for the vid.
you transmit to me inner peace
I used to love being out in the countryside, standing quietly out in the snow and it sounding like a black and white movie.
Cold, I'm sure, but stunning footage Shawn, thank you.
This is the only thing I watch now so I appreciate the uploads. There is nothing else worth watching nowadays. Does Cali have her own chair now? Lol
Since my wife has started watching with me we watch on the smart TV. When we do this together I always come on my computer to give a thumbs up and leave a comment to help you out. My wife really enjoys the cooking and the beautiful sceanery.

Right there in front of God and everybody!
Callie is such a beautiful dog.
Supposed to get possible 9" of snow today and then artic temps😐
I think if you maybe had some backup leather or carving projects people would dig it👍
We are having Lots of Snow in New Brunswick Also !! SURE Started Earlier than Last year. Thanks again and have a Safe Week Love and Hugs to Cali 🐾🐾
Your living the dream buddy keep up the good work
I’m watching you from Newcastle Australia 🇦🇺 will you film your hunting and harvesting adventures
Nice greetings from Germany
You live my dream, which is not possible in Germany.
I love your videos. Keep it up.
Callie says "Yes daddy I know I already had my breakfast but I can always eat a little more when is cold like this" lol xxx
Cali sure loves her new toy! And yes, on the musher booties...they will help a lot.
beautiful time of year up where you are. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here, and Ronnie and I wish for you and your family a thankful holiday season. You and your episodes are a blessing in our lives, as we share your talents-love of nature-and kinship with a wonderful Cali partner. Thank You Mike & Ronnie
Wow .. the cabin looks picture perfect . At 6.38 it looked amazing. Living in the southern part of India I have never touched snow. Watching your channel makes me want to now. Enjoy the snow .
