Zyn is the latest big tobacco product to be making headlines. These nicotine pouches have spawned a whole culture of “zynners” who are using these pouches in place of a personality and supply can barely meet the growing demand. And listen, if you thought vapes were bad… you’re going to hate Zyn.

I see you are called out a lot on this video for not doing enough research. If you make a follow-up video where you bring up studies on snus/zyn, can you please talk about how much plastic there is in the little pouches and how people just toss them all around in the streets and in nature. It is really damaging because not only does it spread microplastics, but birds and small animals do also eat them.

Over a decade ago, I was in a focus group to test ZYN in the US market. I was a broke college student so I lied on the survey to get in. They wanted people who smoked frequently and I was a non-smoker, so all that nicotine pretty much made me instantly puke in front of the focus group.

When I was addicted to nicotine from smoking, I wanted to quit and picked up vaping. I was then addicted to vaping. When I wanted to quit vaping, I tried patches. Which didn’t work. I used lozenges which felt like they worked until I weaned to stop using them. The most effective way is to at some point, go cold turkey. The 2nd and final time I quit nicotine, I weaned myself off of vaping by using decreasing doses of lozenges for about 2 weeks and went cold turkey. The first 2 weeks were hellish, but after that, it gets better. Nicotine is highly addictive and I’m happy to have been nicotine free for the last 6 years.

Honestly nicotine isn't much more addictive than caffeine... Your body gets over it in about a week or two. It's the other aspects like social or habitual connections that generally make smoking or vaping difficult to quit - the urge to use is often not even about the nicotine itself.

Nicotine itself isn’t what’s bad for you… it’s the delivery method. The reason why most U.S. smokeless tobacco carries a risk of causing oral cancer is because of the chemicals that arise from fire-curing the tobacco. The Swedes don’t use this method and instead opt for steam-curing because it doesnt produce any of the carcinogenic chemicals. Zyn, however, does not contain any tobacco whatsoever, which makes it a much safer alternative to not only cigs and e-cigs but even smokeless tobacco

Here's the thing with that. People know that you don't wanna deal with them spitting nasty black gunk all over or inhaling their secondhand smoke. That social stigma about it does at least somewhat act as a deterrent. It's entirely possible that these pouches ARE a genuinely better alternative to smoking, but with that they also carry a significant possibility for people who never would have smoked because of all the negatives of smoking to end up with a nicotine addiction.

As a long time vaper and somebody that ran a vape shop in Canada back in like 2013 I think we opened, lemme just correct one thing.
The tobacco industry did NOT create vaping. They fought us, tooth and fuckin nail for several years. Early vapes were everything tobacoo companies hated, they were cheap, easy to make without their help (home made juice is still a thing), and one of the biggest selling points early on was getting your nic while still telling the liars saying it wasn't killing you to go fuck themselves.
Then Juul came out, and kids loved them, and I think Phillip Morris bought em? Anyway, until that year, I think around 2016/17, they were doing everything they could to get vaping banned/regulated... Then the idiots on instagram made spending ten bucks a day on a single use plastic POS the cool kind of vaping and they were all over it.

Just a quick clarification: the lung disease he’s talking about is likely ‘popcorn lung,’ which was linked to bootleg THC cartridges that contained vitamin E acetate, not nicotine vapes. While both are technically ‘vapes,’ this video is specifically about nicotine, so conflating the two feels a bit misleading. Around that same time, there was a big political push to ban nicotine vapes, and these incidents were used as leverage by tobacco companies, anti-tobacco groups, and politicians alike to further their agendas

    • @reidwallace4258
      @reidwallace4258 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@unpopularopinion1032 Actually, popcorn lung was first a thing in early vape juices, it gets its name because most of the people to ever get it got it from working in a microwave popcorn factory and breathing in the butter flavor in its powdered form. Its why we witch hunted some really good flavors out of juice in like 2014.
The bootleg THC vapes got blamed on 'popcorn lung' by the same know-nothing media talking heads that had claimed everybody that got a cold while vaping had popcorn lung for years before. It was the result of people using some kinda oil, I think it was vitamin E oil or something dumb like that, to get the THC liquid enough for the carts. Whatever it was, it was a non-water soluble, organic oil, that literally went rancid in kids lungs. Once again, totally unrelated to popcorn lung.
I am not talking out my ass bud, I worked 60 hours a week managing a vape shop for most of a decade, this shit was my life. Although I don't think anybody got popcorn lung from vaping (it seems to be caused by the actual crystal powder not the chemical as a liquid) it was a big thing in vaping long before weed cats. It is an example of how overly willing to self police the vape industry was, basically some youtuber found out a flavoring in his ejuice caused an illness and the entire industry stopped using it OVERNIGHT, no research, no making sure it happened in ejuice or at those levels or anything, just an industry wide, unofficial ban on a specific butter flavour.

The “what cigarette do you smoke, doctor?” clip brought on a nostalgia trip. My grandpa introduced me to recordings of old radio shows (1940-1950s) when I was young and the ads for cigarettes were kind of wild. They used that exact audio clip several times for several shows. I think it was for Camels, and if not that, it was Chesterfield. There was a huge focus on health effects; I distinctly remember Chesterfield ads going, “Nooo adverse effects to the nose, throat and sinuses from smoking Chesterfield!” Absolutely wild.
Edit: I’m probably confusing Camel and Chesterfield in my head but the point is that they both advertised that way.

I did quit successfully in the past few months (Zyn free since June) but it required me to get out of the military first. The stress of the job would have made it impossible without that break. I do believe it is ultimately better than smoking still but the psychiatric aspect of it is more interesting to me than the physical aspect of the addiction. One theory I have with no proof apart from speculation is that this represents a society-wide self-medication. Buproprion, an NDRI antidepressant, is famously used to help people quit smoking and as an alternative to SSRI antidepressants that have unwanted side effects including impotency. I believe ZYN is a self-prescribed version of this class of drugs. This may be more appealing to men on the right experiencing symptoms of melancholia who are (undestandably) skeptical of the scientific establishment and view antidepressants with stigma and shame. The better question is, what's wrong with the American system to where people feel like they need these to function?

I knew what they are, in my country, we have something which is exactly the same, but they are owned by British American. They aren't as popular here, mostly because Eastern Europe is still a big market for classic ciggarets. Yes, people (teenagers) do buy them mostly to fool around a bit, then they go back to their classic ciggarets. The culture here is much different around tobbaco in general. Classic ciggarets are still very popular. Back to my NYC story, so when I went to a Newsstand to buy ciggarets, I asked the clerk there about ciggarets. She showed me a Juul and a Zyn pack. She was Indian or Bangladeshi, I couldn't tell for sure and she didn't understand what I meant and I showed her my ciggarets pack, then she showed me a pack of Newports and a pack of Marlboro. Figured "Hey it's legal, and all the customers said it only gives you a short buzz", so I tried it while on the clock and spent the next 20 minutes throwing up in the bathroom while my coworker covered my shift. So much regret 🤣 I think people who get addicted to that terrible taste and buzz are just masochists or extremely bored.
I kept the rest of the tin since I had already paid and opened them, and used it very sparingly throughout the rest of the year. The weird buzz got in the way of focusing on a task or speaking properly at work, so I don't see how it's part of the "hustle culture" at all. When I finished it, I didn't really feel the need to seek more. The taste and burn is so off putting and gross. Feels artificial. Worse than regular tobacco. Worse than a Black N Mild. I tried chewing tobacco and Indian betel nut packs, and I could understand the buzz, but I can't understand why people specifically prefer ON and Zyn

The 3rd safest way to ingest nicotine behind patches gum/lozenges.

I usually love FP, but the whole video felt very moral panicky and a poor level of research presented. Of course you aren’t going to find many studies on the health effects of a specific brand of oral nicotine pouch 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@SullivanDnB They have a couple testing for carcinogens, I believe. All the other pouches are lower quality (IMO from my research), you can't even find the ingredients online.

I will never forgive the gov for banning vapes, only leading to the production disposable vapes to dominate in its wake, so I hope nothing worse than these pouches come around. Screw anyone who shows any fraction of support towards banning nicotine products. (I myself never smoke or drug)

I used Zyn to help me quit smokeless tobacco in 2019. Then in February 2020 I quit nicotine altogether.

I was an oral tobacco user for a long time. I hated cigarettes and vaping and it made me sick. We grew our own tobacco in our greenhouse in Russia and I was hooked at a young age. Zyn/Rogue has definitely helped me been a benifet as I no longer use tobacco and my nicotine usage has decreased. Down to once a day and will probably give it all up soon. Wish me luck!

Though Snus gets mentioned in the video, and lots of people in comments equate Snus to Zyn, I’m not clear if that’s an accurate comparison. Zyn is nicotine. Snus appears to be processed tobacco. These aren’t the same, the addictive effects differ, the health effects aren’t the same, etc.

addictive effects probably similar, its still nicotine pure nicotine probably more addictive. health effects probably less severe though

They’re much more similar than different. No tobacco means you avoid some harmful compounds like nitrosamines, and nicotine is still nicotine, there is no “full grain” version of it. It’s addictive, it elevates your blood pressure and will give you gum disease with enough use, but that’s pretty much it. Been used in Scandinavia for the last 200 years or so, no mystery as the video implies.

    I've never smoked ciggs.
I discovered Zyn before influencers started pushing it and I enjoyed it.
That being said, I don't use it religiously and seeing it catch on like a cult wildfire is a huge turn off.
I don't openly brag about any of my vices.

i'll take people using zyn over vapes and smokes, because zyn won't give me second hand smoke/vape :)

Kinda agree with you. Destroy yourself all you want as long as it doesn't influence others. Issue is, it's still a damaging drug and they are promoting it to kids... indirectly.
