That's what doctors do: they play with organs. :)
Seriously, that is an ultra-cool setup. I can only imagine how it must be for the good doctor to be able to come home from a day of treating patients, walk into his living room and play some music on that magnificent instrument.

He understands that the acoustics are equally important as the organ. The best, most expensive pipe organ is dead in a church with carpet, padded pews, and ceiling tiles. It is like a steinway grand without the sustain pedal.

Yes, this is one of my frustrations at the church where I'm organist. We have a really nice 51-rank Schantz organ built in 1999, but the acoustics are dreadful! Low ceiling, carpet, pew pads, absorptive walls, etc. I'm told the acoustics were even worse back when they had thicker carpet. I have to use the Antiphonal division along with the main organ in order for people in the back half of the room to hear much organ sound, but the main organ isn't properly air-conditioned since all of the vents are in the floor; as a result, in the warm months, the main organ goes sharp while the nicely-cooled Antiphonal remains at the correct pitch, and the result is somewhat cacophonous. 😩

@@organist1982 same here. Im playing a new pipe organ in a choir loft with completely dead acoustics. It kills me that no one gets it. I really believe that they view the pipe organ as a status symbol, nothing more.

@@Richard-vq7ud I was shocked when my music director told me that he and the church had looked into the possibility of deadening the acoustics even more at some point before I took the job. Thank goodness they didn't! I can't believe a choir director would even consider that!!
