Josef Otto af Sillén (1859−1951) was born in Solna on 2 July 1859 and died in Stockholm on 14 July 1951. After completing secondary school he began a career in the military with the Västgöta-Dals regiment. He later went on to a career in the insurance industry and from 1900 until 1928 he worked as the director for the Heimdall insurance company, which he also founded. During 1903−17 he was chair of the New Philharmonic Society in Stockholm. As a composer Sillén was particularly devoted to orchestral music and, among other things, he wrote several symphonies in a late Romantic style.
Excellent discovery. Typical Swedish late romantic style with discrete treatment of passions and oscillations between dark atmosphere and aspiration for light likewise it occurs when summers and winters are more extreme due to latitude.
I saw that also his violin concerto is available in a CD together with this symphony

There is no way Sillén was not an admirer of Langgaard’s First symphony.
