Mit “das Beste aus beiden Welten” (in diesen Zeiten ein etwas überstrapazierter Begriff) Latin und Jazz kommt wieder mal eine unverzichtbare Fixgröße der afrocubanischen Musik nach Wien und wird gemeinsam zum wiederholten male mit der Alexander Ehrenreich Big Band das Publikum akustisch in den Bann ziehen. Das Motto des Abends “When salsamood meets winterblues” soll in den kalten Februartagen Lust auf die Karibik und sonst wärmere Gefilde machen. Bring your family! (Alexander Ehrenreich)
Joe Gallardo wurde 1939 in Texas geboren und begann als Kind Klavier zu lernen, eher er Posaune als sein Hauptinstrument für sich entdeckte.
Seit 1978 lebt er vorwiegend in Deutschland, kam 1991 zur NDR Big Band, der er bis 2008 als Lead-Posaunist angehörte. Mit seiner Komposition “Amanecer” gewann er 1976 einen Grammy. Er hatte eine Professur an der Musikhochschule Hamburg und war auch an der Entwicklung des Jugendjazzorchesters Schleswig Holstein maßgeblich beteiligt.

With "the best of both worlds" (a somewhat overused term these days) Latin and jazz, an indispensable fixture of Afro-Cuban music is once again coming to Vienna and, together with the Alexander Ehrenreich Big Band, will once again cast a spell over the audience acoustically . The motto of the evening "When salsamood meets winter blues" should make you want to go to the Caribbean and otherwise warmer regions in the cold February days. Bring your family! Joe Gallardo was born in Texas in 1939 and began learning the piano as a child before discovering the trombone as his main instrument.
He has lived mainly in Germany since 1978 and joined the NDR Big Band in 1991, where he was lead trombonist until 2008. He won a Grammy in 1976 with his composition “Amanecer”. He held a professorship at the Hamburg University of Music and was also instrumental in the development of the Schleswig Holstein Youth Jazz Orchestra.
