I played Legend of Mana back in the day and really loved it. I have Trials of Mana (the remake) in my backlog now.

I love it, I don't think it's necessarily to everyone's taste, but I REALLY enjoyed it!

HACCAN's art had a huge effect on the resurgence of the Mana series. His style is perfect for a fairytale innocent fantasy feel that doesn't exist in modern JRPGs or RPGs in general. Which is perfect for the Mana series.

Awesome video, mate! I've been enjoying the Mana series for a long time now. Trials of Mana is also my favourite! Having played Visions of Mana's demo just recently, I can tell you it made me feel like a kid again. It feels, looks, and plays like a Mana game! I'm looking forward to its final release.

Thanks for making this Joe. Mana has been one of my most cherished franchises ever since I was about 9 and played Secret of Mana.
It's what got me into RPGs to begin with, so SD2 is extra special to me.
I honestly worried for years that the IP was just dead, because that's how awful Dawn of Mana was - Visions aka SD5 is the first "mainline" game since.
Oh and just fun trivia: The mana team has had a LOT of influence on various titles, including the combat for Chrono Trigger and a lot of the team was brought on to FFXI - something I only personally discovered a few years ago and honestly it explains quite a lot about that game.
So while I am trying to temper expectations, the hopes are quite high for Visions.

Seiken Densetsu 3 is one of my absolute favorites of all time! I need to play Trials of Mana, lol. I definitely want to play Visions, since I loved the demo!

Seiken Denesetsu/Sword of Mana has the greatest, most epic soundtrack of any game ever and is the second best handheld game.

i still remember going to local grocery store as a kid and seeing articles previewing seiken densetsu 3 that was assumed to be coming to the west. little did we know. wasnt until college that i emulated it with the fan translation and it brought be back to that excitement when i was a kid. so yes, trials is by far my favorite! it was like a dream

I absolutely adore the Mana series, despite only getting into it recently (aside from playing Secret of Mana at a friend's house as a kid), but a few notes on availability:
Adventures of Mana was actually released on Vita internationally, not just in Japan! In fact, it's still available on the Vita store to this day.
Legend of Mana's modern remaster is sadly not on Xbox, but it is on Switch, PS4 and PC. Visions is actually gonna be the first Mana game on an Xbox platform!
The Secret of Mana (2018) remake is PS4, Vita and PC, sadly no Switch version. Also, most of the bugs and crashing problems have been fixed as far as I'm aware

      Thank you for the corrections!
I might have to give SoM Remake another go if they've fixed all the bugs in it!

@@Joesephyr Aside from those bugs, I feel like it got a bad rep unfairly. I think people were more expecting something along the lines of the remake Trials got (though there was never any indication that would be the case) but it very much seems like it was made with the Vita in mind. It's extra dialogue, story content and QoL features over the SNES version definitely make it worth a play

I played final fantasy adventure for the first time a few years ago via emulation on psp, and I had a ton of fun. I bet if I played it as a kid, it would have been one of my favorites. I opted for Final Fantasy Legends 2 instead when I had the option for a birthday present.

Visions of Mana demo felt clunky but seems to have potential so I'm 100% getting it physical on PS5

I might be in the minority for this, but I really enjoyed the Secret of Mana remake, it's far from perfect, but still, the little extra interactions at the inn's, seeing your weapons change as you upgrade them, little things like that.
The only other version that I maybe would prefer is a rom hack of the original, that adds more to the script and fleshed out the story/ characters more 😊

I like it too, but it's definitely not one I'd recommend as a first foray into the franchise!

I needed this little primer, I always get the Mana and Saga games confused cause of the four letter _a_a names.

This video came in a week after I decided to give Trials of Mana a...well...a trial! This video is the more interesting thing to do before choosing your first Mana game to play. A culmination of reddit and wiki entries sprinkled with the Joesephyr touch. Listen to the man. If you've never tried a Mana game before and you wanna have a great first impression out of it, go with Trials of Mana ❤

I only played SD2 via the TRIALS of Mana remake which is so much better then the SNES version that never really left Japan until the Switch collection of it Adventures on Mana the VITA remake it NEVER LEFT JAPAN though.
But the party members in the VISIONS of Mana demo for in battles are IMHO SLOW as hell and their AI is pure CRAP that the full game needs the SAME Beginner/Can't really DIE difficulty that the SD3 remake (Trials of Mana game) has as in IF all 3 party members DIE in Visions of Mana on BEGINNER mode the game would have a REVIVE them to continue the battles with FULL HP/MP counts while the bosses themselves kept their CURRENT HP left counts left once all 3 party members die and are revived with full HP/MP counts.
