Interesting variety of goldfield artifacts! The hinged lid with holes is the cover from a German tobacco smoking pipe. The purpose of these covers was supposedly to protect the pipe when lit from being blown out by wind. This style of pipe was quite popular during the 19th century, with excavated examples of the decorative brass covers being found in Victorian era mining sites in America, as well as Australia.
Yes I’ve been on a button overdose lately it seems , not that I mind I find them interesting and a good window into history that normally you wouldn’t look up :) it always surprises you what turns up when you take the time to dig all the lower numbers, very time consuming when there’s a lot of signals 😅
Great range of finds, William! Seamstress or tailor, maybe a couple! The hinged, lipped, round, perforated lid item may have had a small spoon suspended on a short chain, for powdered mustard? Shall keep watching, building up those pictures of the past, so enjoying viewing these. Cheers again!
Yes I always wonder when I find lots of buttons if some seamstress or housewife dropped the button box , someone suggested one time that maybe it was a hard handed person doing the washing and threw the buttons out with the wash water , but I don’t know you would think they would be careful as it’s a bit of work sewing buttons on all the time 😂😅 you could be right about the mustard jar, maybe one day I’ll see something similar in a museum or antique shop and solve the puzzle, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed watching, thankyou for taking the time to write a comment, appreciate it 👍🏼
Sorry about the terrible sound quality on this video 😅 I’ll try fix it and re-upload it again soon

No sound
TH-cam does do that, try again later and you will probably get sound, I’ve had the same experience quite a few times, seems to be a TH-cam glitch :)
