i tried this a few times, but it was nearly impossible to get the hardware cloth stapled to the small exterior piece squarely, so i gave up on it....its just easier to do it after its on the trap square for me anyway..As with all things, your mileage may vary.
My experience , using screened botton boards for about 6 years, is that Diatomaceous Earth is far better than any oil or liquid in the tray.... Juat needs a little "raking" and freshening about twice monthly....
What oil pan are you using for the 10 frame sized box? From past research and others notes they are impossible to find a Cheap pan that will work. Nice trap design if you can get a pan to fit Jim
We make the trays from 24" vinyl clad trim coil. The same stuff used to make the aluminum trim around exterior windows. You can find this for about $90 per roll at any hardware store. Or you can contact us and we can make trays for you.
It can be ordered either by the square foot or precut to 5, 8 and 10 frame sizes here: www.funnybugbees.com/hive-maintenance/pest-management/hardware-cloth-wire-mesh/
