I agree. This year seems especially quiet 😢 It'll be interesting to see the results from this year's count. The really went winter and spring likely will have had an impact
ive only seen 3 butterflies since May, i know i live in a fairly built up area, but i look out my window, and usually can see a few things, or on my walks, like tiny pale blue, the small and large white ones, occasionally a peacock. even my partners garden has been quite, usually a speckled wood, and a few tiger moths. it will be interesting to see the results this year, for sure.
That's sad to hear, but seems to be most people's experience this year. I know most of our UK butterflies, 30+ species, overwinter as a caterpillar and worry that the really wet winter and spring will have been a wash out for them :/ guess we'll wait and see the results
@@georgecuckoo yeah it is a worry for over wintering caterpillars, we have had such a wet cold winter, and spring here in the uk this year, its definitely a worry for the food web and all those links down the line
I've done the count a couple of times so far and have had a maximum of 3 in each count 😢 We have lots of ragwort in a field near by though covered in cinnabar moth caterpillars so there is some hope!
There were so many more butterflies around when I was a child and hardly any now. I will be doing this, this week though!
