    Not to mention goalies are one of the most in shape players on the team. I play goal off and on, and every time I do I am reminded of how much muscle endurance and stamina you have to have, especially in your lumbar muscles.....jesus it hurts lol

    Hi Chris. Just wanna say a massive thanks for all your videos. I played junior hockey for dumfries from aged 9 to 14 and had to give up when my parents divorced. At the end of last year I took my son to a public skating session and I immediately got the bug back. So I'm currently attending weekly adult development training sessions and I've fallen in love with the game again. 16 years after I played last! I'm hoping to sign up for the recreational team for next season and see where it goes from there. Your videos have been very inspirational and helpfull to me as the game and everything that goes with it has changed a bit in 16 years... Thanks again Chris and keep up the good work!! Looking forward to future uploads

    Hi, I'm 17 from the uk and have been seriously thinking about taking up hockey. I'm about 5'8 and weigh about 11 stone (154 pounds) what position would you recommend trying out? Also does height matter when playing hockey? As I said I'm about 5'8 so not particularly on the tall side.
    Thanks a lot, and keep up the good work! You're doing an amazing job promoting this amazing game!

    I'm a 45-year-old Aussie. My son started playing a few years ago. I decided to learn too. After a couple of years (on-and-off) learning to skate and handle a puck, I just played my first 'game today. It was an organised game for beginners. I played right defense. I discovered I'm the type of player who's slow, avoids the puck, and tires easily. But I was good at knowing where to be and what my role was (at least that's what my team-mate said!). That's mainly because I watched this video. Thanks Chris!

    Hi Chris,
    Great video. In the next one, any chance that you can explain some of the positions and tactics for beginners please? I mean things like how strictly you're expected to stick to your positions and how far up or down the rink you would normally get to in each position.
    Cheers

      Ventzi Sergueev quick tip: forwards goes back on defense when its in the def. zone, and when its in the off. zone have one defense stay a bit above the red line usually and one person more up sort of making a triangle in the zone.... a defense coming up to reclaim the puck after a poke check can score a nice quick goal...

    Hi, I just joined up for the adult-prep total beginners' training season in a co-ed, non-contact league whose only requirement is that you can stop without hitting the boards. I can skate backwards well, stop, etc. - I'm not saying I'm excellent, or light-speed fast, but apparently I am more than qualified to start in the basically year-long training camp with eventual games, playoffs vs. other adult noobies this year. I'm also taking private hockey skating lessons starting next week to get better. I'd love to be a goalie, but as a 5'6'' 42 year old woman (w/out skates), 150lbs (at most) in a coed league, that isn't really practical, right? I shoot left. I think that leaves me best suited to be on defense or a winger, right? If I have to be a goalie, I'd have to switch to an all-woman's league, I think, but goalies need to know how to play first, and I figure I might even stay as a winger or on defense... there's less pressure on you than in net. Any thoughts?

    Hey Chris I love your videos but if I may say something on the American side...in the NHL you'll find more Left handed shots...but in everyday life in rec leagues and NCAA there are very few Americans that shoot left handed that being said for the new guy or gal coming up to play being left in America can actually give you an advantage.

    So I played hockey a few years ago when I was like 9-10. I quit (like a dumbass) because it was a hockey camp and the counselor were little shitheads. The people never really gave us defined roles except for the goalie. I'm 16 now and I have natural skating skills. I'm 5' 7" and 114 lbs. (yeah I know I'm light as shit) Would a forward role be better for me over a defenseman? I'm a very fast skater. I timed myself last time I went skating (wearing too big skates on accident) and I went completely around the rink in I think 12-14 seconds. Just as a measure to show my speed.

Also face off give me anxiety. So I think I like being on the wing most XD

Yes, you could play center or D, but thats all down to personal choice. Do you want to help lead rushes or do you want to shut down attackers? Or you could do both, A two way wing or D. Coaches love those haha

      X3Cuber I personally prefer being a right wing even tho I'm a leftie because I think it gives me more space to shoot to the net when I'm coming from the right side. So I would suggest you going left wing but it is of course personal preference.

    Hi mate just a quick question have you used and reviewed the bauer nxg skates and ccm rbz pro skates if you have which ones would you say are better?? Keep up the good work.

    • @HockeyTutorialOfficial
      @HockeyTutorialOfficial  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are very different skates both intended for high level of play or skating. I would say try them on to see which fit and feel the most comfortable. They both have different fits, NXG are a lighter skates with more "hockey tech" RBZ are also a great boot. If you want more information, please post any questions on the forum page on my website.

    Don't forget you need to be a bit insane to be a goalie.

      Forwards are the offensive positions. Usually the most explosive ones. They create plays, assists, and score

    Do you have to be flexible to be a goalie

    • @jackfetkovich7226
      @jackfetkovich7226 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zachary Rollins flexibility definitely comes into play, but you don't have to be super stretchy to play the position. What's important is your hand eye coordination. But how flexible you need to be depends on your goaltending style. A standup goalie won't have to be as flexible as a butterfly goalie, and a butterfly goalie as hybrid. You just have to ring your own style that is helped by your characteristics, such as size and flexibility

    Guys don't pick goalie trust me. At first it's awesome but after a while you realize it's veeeeery hard. You need an amazing skill to have the proper edge control and speed and reflexes. I would recommend starting off as a player before being a goalie
