The one thing about Fans Project that really blows me away is the amount of engineering that goes into their releases. The fact that a trailer transforms into armor and a base and back without extra, non-integrated pieces is amazing! Regardless of what you think of each individual release from the company, they deserve more than a little credit for putting out imaginative products that allow those that wish to, to add on to their collection of transformers and enjoy them even more.
This is just such a beautifully engineered set of add-on parts. If you didn't know better, you'd think the Classics mold was designed with this set in mind in the first place, with all of the attachment points it works with.
This is the most I've ever spent on a transformer (between protector, sidearm, and classics rodimus), and worth every cent. I use the wing extensions on sidearm to make him into a crossbow. Nice little nod to animated rodimus (one of the coolest versions of said character).
Hey paul, the challenge at cybertron hotrod holds in better because of the paint they used on him. the yellow on the spoliers/wings add a layer of thickness that makes it hold in better, its also the same with the wings addons versus the classics hotrod. and if you lower the area that holds his version of roller and plug hotrod in the wheel will be on the ground and match up better.
No its actually an original character that transforms into a robot mammoth, hence, 20.000BC, theres actually a clear picture of the artwork but I have no clue where it is.
i got the kit today and its bad ass!!!!! it works very well with the challenge at cybertron hotrod great! even the chrome wings with side arms make it look good!!!!!
I bought the Rodimus/Cyclonus set recently, and I put the Matrix on a chain so I can wear it. Now, I'm going to get the TFX-04 and 05 and display everything with both my Primus and Unicron planets.
Hey Paul, thanks for another excellent review, really looking forward to this one. Just wondering if your Classics Hot Rod figure is also suffering from those stress marks on the arm joints, think I saw something on yours too,not sure if's just light reflection or something. But mine got those marks on both arms... and I have only transformed that toy like 2-3 times. You know any ways of restoring it?
@optibotimus You should buy it, it really completes the G1 look of Classics/Universe roller and you can even display the Trailer and Prime in the box together for those collexctors who want to keep their figures mint forever. An excelent touch on the part of the TFX Fans Project designers. It also comes with chrome weapons for Swideswipe, Hound, Mirage, Bumblebee and Grimlock of the Classics/Universe. To tell the truth I want all of the things you've shown in your reviews but I have no money. :(
Nice review and great accessory! It looks really good and I like that it has so many other uses but, does seem to require a lot of transforming in order to get what you want out of it. Also, if the little dude who becomes his gun is ONLY 10 dollars then, I'm guessing that the rest of the ad-on is quite pricey! I'll probably never be able to get one anyway but, that's okay since I'm going have to sale stuff to make ends meet. Bitterness between the leaders?? Never knew about that.
Cheers !, I ve watched your reviews for a few years now, and thought you could shed some light better than anyone. How does the armor fit on your "Battle in space" hotrod ? I was concerned about spending all the money for the protector set to just be disapointed with how well it fits.
Since I plan on getting mp09 I got the battle in space Rodimus for my protector and I personally like the way the colors look it is kind of like the armor isn't fully fused with Rodimus yet and in robot mode it looks as if Rodimus prime has more detail
Also speaking of Optimus he and Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime never really fought or arguerd with one another except those times in the cartoon where Optimius was a Zombie and Rodimus was infected with the hate plauge. It's the fans that created the conflict and the handshake piece is a nice way to burry the hatchet with the fans of both Primes with the 2 generations of autobot leaders shaking hands and putting the past filled with doubt, guilt and suffering behind them to Galvatrons ass.
@optibotimus It's called the Battle in Space right? I love the looks of Cyclonus. I should really start getting into the universe line, 'cuz i have only mostly Movie lines.
LOL HOT ROLLER, Great review, best since your Devastaror upgrade kits. Are you going to review the Optimus Prime G3 trailer from fans project? Because that is awsome from all the other reviews I've seen of it.
@optibotimus Kicking some serious third party ass. LOL. Ah, the humor never gets old. BTW, thanks for the head tip. If i ever plan on getting a Hot Rod figure, i WILL get the Fansproject TFX-04 and TFX-05. Keep on reviewing!!.
I've got a question for you about your 3 pack.. Do your figures feel like they are a lower grade of plastic than their originals? I've got a henkei rodimus, and then the US versions of Galvatron and Cyclonus, and all 3 of them feel closer to knock off quality (closer to, not AT knock off quality, just not feeling like a standard hasbro/takara quality plastic). Heck they feel like lower plastic quality than some of the 3rd party stuff out there.
it was a natural result. Optimus was the old days, the courage and wisdome, but they wanted to try and introduce new gen of bots, and thus they needed a younger, and in their minds, hip leader to lead the way into the next gen. I rather like hot rod as a character, but yes, he really should have just been a support, not a leader.
hot rod never hated optimus he always looked up to him and filled guilty for his death and thinking he wasn't good enough to fill his shoes but hey that is a good piece to go with that trailer
ok this is going ta be mine when i can afford it and i want two of those target masters. cause i wonder two things one what will this look like on sideburn when he comes out and can the target master fit on jazz's spoiler. cause if it does i can do my own repaint in to that one black jazz dude who i forget the name of.
I'd rather have Masterpiece Roddy and Masterpiece Optimus shaking hands. I'll admit that the set looks great, but if I was to get it I'd rather have the SG Rodimus version. I think that MP 09 would be the better buy, because you have four toys in one and it does a better job with the battle station. Then again I'm comparing Official and unofficial stuff. I guess if you wanted to get this as something for Classics Roddy cool. But for me it's Masterpiece all the way.
Kurnaxs Same mold, so yeah; the only change to United Rodimus Prime aside from paint is the engine block was modified to accommodate Microns/Minicons...so it's essentially a legit Targetmaster Hot Rod that you need to get a partner for.
Wow. I just saw peaugh's review a week or so ago, and yeah...the Classics Hot Rod seems to work best. If I could afford it, I would get it...even if it doesn't match the ugly Battle in Space/Challenge at Cybertron figure. Seeing this makes me want the Protector set more. And for folks who balk at the price, well, custom made stuff costs a lot. Sucks, but it just does. But at about a hundred @ tfsource, that is still way cheaper than City Commander ever was.

Your words at the end were awesome

the hand shake brought a tear to my eye...

20:45 its still hot rods fault.
this is my 3rd time watching someone review this
and its still awesome! :D
When you're putting the armor on Rodimus, I put "The Touch" on in the background :D Awesome review!
Just seen Peaugh and Van's review of this, but still get my thumbs up :)
The outline at the back of the booklet is the Fansproject Glacialbot!

got mine today and i love it
all i need now is a rodimus
I love the Protector I hope mine arrives soon
I very badly wish I could have afforded to get this, as I have the Classics Hot Rod that this is designed for.
@optibotimus You should buy it, it really completes the G1 look of Classics/Universe roller and you can even display the Trailer and Prime in the box together for those collexctors who want to keep their figures mint forever. the only thing i found out was that the spoiler can break off because when you pick it up
[the trailer].rodimus is weight has no support.

Totally AWESOME!!! Looks amazingly epic!
Cheers !, I ve watched your reviews for a few years now, and thought you could shed some light better than anyone.

Not a bad bit of reviewing, man. Right on.
Since I plan on getting mp09 I got the battle in space Rodimus for my protector and I personally like the way the colors look it is kind of like the armor isn't fully fused with Rodimus yet and in robot mode it looks as if Rodimus prime has more detail
Have you tried removing the rollar from the trailer in vehicle mode? It actually lowers the mid section on Rodimus in vehicle mode.
Also speaking of Optimus he and Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime never really fought or arguerd with one another except those times in the cartoon where Optimius was a Zombie and Rodimus was infected with the hate plauge. This is all kinds of awesome- I dont suppose anyone has tried to do more with the battle station bit?
@optibotimus It's called the Battle in Space right? I love the looks of Cyclonus. I should really start getting into the universe line, 'cuz i have only mostly Movie lines.
I have this Rodimus Prime (or Hot Rod, whatever) but I didn't know that there are accessories for it
the figure was great but when you put the armor on it then it was awesome
I really like this I have just come back to it after four months. Do you think that they will make a combiner wars hot rod?
@optibotimus Which would you recommend. City Commander or Protector and Sidearm? Which is cheaper?
@optibotimus Ok then so it's not just me!
Thanks due I appreciate the response!
can you show all your other fansproject figures with the originals...just as you did at 17:45?
LOL HOT ROLLER, Great review, best since your Devastaror upgrade kits. Are you going to review the Optimus Prime G3 trailer from fans project? Because that is awsome from all the other reviews I've seen of it.

@optibotimus nevermind me, i'm just weird! btw that "handshake thing" wouldn't fit city commanders hand would it?

I rather like hot rod as a character, but yes, he really should have just been a support, not a leader.
love it nice fans project really did a great job
You know how you said everything was blacked out? There is really color in there just it is very dark.
hot rod never hated optimus he always looked up to him and filled guilty for his death and thinking he wasn't good enough to fill his shoes but hey that is a good piece to go with that trailer
hey paul where did the scratches on your right hand come from
awesome review dude
ok this is going ta be mine when i can afford it and i want two of those target masters. cause i wonder two things one what will this look like on sideburn when he comes out and can the target master fit on jazz's spoiler. cause if it does i can do my own repaint in to that one black jazz dude who i forget the name of.
Awesomesauce. :) Mine is on its way. :D Looking forward to gettin' it now.
forgot to show the peice that pegs to roller attaches to rodimus's gun to become protecter's rifle
I can tell by the scratches on your right hand that you have at least one cat :D
"So let's get inside and see how cool it is", haehahea, sounds so wrong when you just play that line!
nice review! although the head completely turned me off from buying this.
I was kinda hoping you'd put the 3-pack version in the armor as well :P
How does it look like with the other rodimus in it? With the two different shades clash?
cool vid hey your going to be at botcon 2011 right.
Would the Battle In Space Rodimus Prime work with protector set too?
I just re-watched this and realized that Rodimus's shoulders look just like his alternators counterpart's shoulders.
i wish i could have bought it from toy arena! good review sort of, it felt somewhat stressful
Does it even fit the Hot rod with Cyclonus duel box?
good figure, good review, D: what happened to those cuts in your hand dude D: ?
like me i got the battle in spce which is the same colours but i don't get galvertron but in stend i get a matrix of leder ship
@optibotimus gahhh........a blender!?!?!?....that must have reeeeeeeally hurt
hmm i wonder if the silhouette figure at the end if the comic is one of those glacial bots fansproject thought of doing...
LETS GET IN SIDE IT GIGIDY GIGIDY GO
I need to find this but the price right now is super high
I'd rather have Masterpiece Roddy and Masterpiece Optimus shaking hands. I'll admit that the set looks great, but if I was to get it I'd rather have the SG Rodimus version. Could you use the TF United Rodimus Prime with the protector set?
Kurnaxs Same mold, so yeah; the only change to United Rodimus Prime aside from paint is the engine block was modified to accommodate Microns/Minicons...so it's essentially a legit Targetmaster Hot Rod that you need to get a partner for.
@Onealprime Yes all three are the same figure
can you use the hand piece thing for prime and rodimus to have them arm wrestle?
battle at cybertron is a three pack over in asia that has Rodimus, Cyclonus and Galvatron
i want this figure whered u get it
should i get the protector set or the gundam 00 1/100 model ?
The tank mode looks more like a gun emplacement
Wow. I just saw peaugh's review a week or so ago, and yeah...the Classics Hot Rod seems to work best. If I could afford it, I would get it...even if it doesn't match the ugly Battle in Space/Challenge at Cybertron figure. Seeing this makes me want the Protector set more.
