I can understand your feelings on the opening, for sure. But I would say he wasnt serious about the "marry when your 16" thing. That was more of a "whatever" thing since she was dying. The idea of "yeah sure look forward to that in a few years." Make sure to live that long etc.
I agree, it was a way to brush her off without her feeling rejected. It's like telling her to live longer. even she knew she wasn't gonna make it and called him a "meanie". the 16yr old thing was probably the age in Japan when the manga was written, so it looks worse. it's 18 now I believe.
It depends on prefecture, they have various ages of marriage and 16 is the lowest i believe. But yes, he said it not seriously but to be nice to dying child.
The big thing about when the Doctor told Sarina he'd consider marrying her when she was 16 and her reaction calling him a meanie...is that they bothknew there was no chance she was going to live to see 16.
It's like a child telling her dad she'll marry him one day. Sarina isn't a toddler, but she's closer to that kind of love profession than to understand what actual real love required for a marriage is. People get weirdly hung up on this as if it's really hard to understand. Going as far as to completely twist the story into something else just to make their headcanon work.
Miyako (the president's wife) is a real one, she went from only wanting to get with a pretty guy. But by the end of the episode she truly cared for the twins, enough to actually adopt and raise both of them.
I love Miyako and the fact she is the mother of the idol group lol. She is the voice of reason. I know she had a small part to seem like a baddie but she's best momma now.
I don't think the doctor really wanted to date Sarina when she turned 16. I think that was just his gentle way of turning down a sick little girl that had been thinking a lot about dying in way that made her think about having a future. Because I don't think either one of them actually thought she was going to live to 16. That's why she called him a meanie when he said it.
Japanese Civil Code used to state that the minimum marriage age was 18 for men and 16 for women. When the manga first went out, 16 was the legal age for women to get married. You will witness a lot of consumption and dehumanization of people in the following part of the show. This industry norm is prevalent in East Asia.
Great reactions, as always! About the "marriage" part, I assumed it was more of a way of him saying "first live till you are 16, then I will consider your proposal", and, taking into consideration that 16 is the age of consent in Japan, and, untill recently, girls were allowed to get married with parents approval by that age, it makes somewhat sense instead of him saying "maybe after you're 18, 21, etc". But ofc, I completly understand it feeling disgusting for anyone and as the morally criticable part of the law or cultural aspects of Japan itself its still something apart, but I just thought that looking from that perspective could help it somehow sit a bit more well with you guys. Excited to see more reactions from this show!!!

However 16 yrs old is the legal age to marry for girls in Japan. You don’t have to agree with it, I dont either. BUT (Contrary to belief) the west doesn’t get to decide for the rest of the world what’s right or wrong.

This part of the lyrics sounds Japanese for some reason. ENG"That emotion melts"=JPN"daremoga mewo". ENG"Completely deny"=JPN"kanpekijanai"
I felt like goro's hole thing about ai's obsession wasnt ment to showcase how kinda weird idol obsession kinda is with its target audience being 16-30 year olds with idols being 12-20 its very inatitly creepy and the thing with sarina is just giving hope to a dyeing child im guessing she was not ment to live to 16 thats why she called him mean. I feel like the breast feeding screan was ment to show that goro/aqua is not that.
I hate the whole right the show off cause aqua is a “creep” shit. There are immoralities in many pieces of fiction that are used as a plot device but we people often don’t just right the show off as a result. Eren wants to commit genocide on a unprecedented scale but people don’t feel wrong about watching that and some real people even agree with him.
Yeah it's really stupid how people bring up morality in relation to anything sexual but are OK with watching an episode documentary of a serial killer and not flinch.
i agree with you 100%, but the flip side to that is the people who wont even admit there are any immoralities in the story and will instead defend everything that happens lol like its ok for characters to be bad people, we dont have to justify their actions to keep watching them
@@tigerwoods3729 You make a good point. Many stories make mc's intentionally bad or morally ambiguous people for the purpose of the story and hating them is meant to happen. However, in this case the author is intentionally setting the doctor up to be a super fan and not a pedo. He doesn't express sexual attraction to AI before or after reincarnation, he chooses not to nurse, he bad mouths ruby for nursing but because of the maybe after your 16 ill consider joke that was obviously a nod to the fact that her illness was terminal and she wouldn't make it past that age, people laser focus and discredit the incredible story for no reason.
@Lilbill349 so true. Even the reincarnation argument isn't free from laser focusing on only the age and memory aspect of it. Despite the fact that the character in question is also an underage child. Aqua and Ruby are children irregardless of their previous lives. This same logic applies to any and all reincarnated anime character stories, especially Jobless Reincarnation. A couple reaction channel that dropped Jobless Reincarnation previously has now come to that realization, which is how you're supposed to look at the situation truly.
25:05 Gotta commend you that you deduce correctly that it was indeed a word play lost in translation. I saw a translation somewhere that makes that joke funny in english Ruby saying "Lick a lying snitch" and Kanna correcting "Flick a crying switch".
I haven't yet heard any reactors notice that later in the series you see Kana wearing a T-shirt that says "Baking Soda" on it, like she's finally got tired of being joked AT so now she just owns it. It's pretty funny IMO.
The doctor is sussy with his fixation on a 16 year old idol as a grown man, but when he tells Sarina that he'll seriously consider marrying her at 16... it's because he's her doctor and knows her prognosis. That's why she says he's mean, and why he tells her the plan is practical. They both know that sick as she is at 12, she has no hope of living anywhere near 4 more years. Honestly, other than Ai getting stabbed, Sarina fading out of the room and the hard cut to her funeral is probably what took me off guard the most when I first watched this. Having finished the season, I'm still struck by how brutal this show is for introducing and killing off a 12 year old in the first 10 minutes when the author is the same person who brought us the comedy that is Kaguya.
In the end when she was stabbed, she was just being nice to that guy because she wanted to protect Aqua and Ruby, lie to him was the only way to prevent he would hurt her kids
Let it be know that the ladies of the React Pack need a a sweet young innocent girl to be brutally stabbed to be interested in a show😅😅😂😂. But on the real , Ai’s death hurt my heart so much. Only known her for a short while, but she made an impression on me.
It was episode 1 that betrayed expectations in a good way. It is an anime that is different from the story that many people imagined, and that is why it became a hot topic. I was surprised that the original author is the same as Kaguya-Sama: Love is War.
I really dislike the typical american overreaction over the age topic. Literally thats not even what the show meant or what was going for, but american always have to overreact these things because of their prejudice and oversensitivity to these topics. Like Jesus Christ they need to chill the f out with this stuff and stop thinking the worst every time they see something like this. When almost no one else in the world thinks like that only you guys than maybe you should look inwards a little bit.
I know the start of the episode was definitely headed in a weird direction, but I'm glad yall stuck to it until the end. I was skeptical at first too, and even know someone who dropped the show after the first 15 minutes lol. But the mere shock value of the ending and the sudden shift in the plot makes it worth it imo. I've never been into an idol anime before, but this one got me hooked
Just to note, Goro/Aqua's feelings on Ai are a bit weird, and that's very much intentional. The whole pregnancy and lie things probably make it clear already, but this show is really good at dealing with heavier and more subjective themes, be it regarding social aspects or the psychology of the characters. So whenever you see a character that seems weird or unhealthy, chances are it'll be an important plotpoint for their development.
Also, fair warning: the show kind of IS all about the entertainment industry, going forward. There's obviously other stuff intertwined with that, though,
At least at the time this manga was written, the age of consent/marriage is 16. That's why that age is used in the story so much. It's young af, but legal. One of the main pillars of Oshi no Ko is that these idol are teenagers, and they deal with real, intense, lofe-changing consequences and results. Don't make it weird.
It's weird for pretty much any country outside Japan I mean we all know their obsession with always making characters underage, they're just calling out what it is
Todo from jjk would've fit into this world perfectly haha. Tho, I can't see any tall idols around. But yeah, the last 20mins were Def more interesting; what a turn of events.
Re: Baking soda: Arima Kana is known as "the genius child actor who can cry in ten seconds flat," but in Japanese that sounds very similar to the phrase "the genius child actor who licks baking soda." Ruby gets it wrong on purpose to annoy Kana.
I think the "I'll marry you when you turn 16" thing was because they knew she probably wouldn't make it to 16. He was trying to give her hope, let her know he thought she could live.
What I like about manga/anime is how weird and creative it can be. This is an “idol-reincarnation-murder mystery-slice of life-revenge” story. When would you ever see something like this in the West? You wouldn’t even get something like this published let alone on TV.
The show is weird. Period. Especially the early parts. But whoever spoiled them saying oh, there's a creepy character at the beginning watch out, etc set them up for expecting something bad. So the weird stuff is even weirder and creepier than it could be. Just let them react normally and let them have genuine reactions and speak their minds. The commenter probably had good intentions, but still. Just let reactors/content creators experience things for themselves and voice out their actual thoughts.
The funny thing is I haven't even seen this anime yet but i've seen every reaction video to the first episode, so I already know what happens and I spoiled it for myself but the reaction are worth watching
Im Japanese and even I feel like idol culture is kinda sus. But its a big part of the culture here for some reason. The “marry at 16” part is more of a Japanese thing cause its the legal age of sexual consent in Japan. So i get how people from other countries view it as creepy and weird. (I do too) Love the reaction tho! Got yourselves a new subscriber.
Kind of makes sense. Us Westerners aren't used to seeing that fact in media as it's deemed weird and pedophilic, so I can understand why they reacted like that.
I mean, tbh, it's not even the west. Most of the west has their age of consent set to 16. The US is actually an outlier when it comes to age of consent
38:00 those comments remind me of twitter userbase in general xD . The worst part of the anime is how realistic it is in terms of how messed up people can be
I mean... you could already tell they hated the anime already before even watching it in their intro, the middle girl says we are now watching this "overhype anime"...
What’s crazy imo is that a situation where a insane fans actually found his favorite idol got upset that she told him to chill out and decided to find her home and stab her luckily she survived the stabbing
Not really spoiler-y, but Aqua does acknowledge it being problematic if he were dating someone underage as a person with the mind of a full-grown adult.
"Episode 1" being a movie long makes sense after watching it, right? If it was instead cut into four 20-minute long, a bunch of people would drop watching the show. As you've said, you kinda get bored during the middle if it's just a slice of life anime. At this length, it gives you a proper hook to consider watching the show week by week.
16 is the age of consent in Japan if I'm not mistaken, so it might be weird for some western countries but it is not as weird for Japan or other countries
I definitely understand your concerns about the creepiness in the series but this show makes an effort to show the REAL world of being in the entertainment industry. This creepiness is unfortunately how it actually is and it would be a disservice to itself not to shine a spotlight on it. This series makes a massive point of showing just how screwed up Japan's entertainment industry actually is. Granted im probably a lottle tardy to the party in typing this comment lol
The creepy stuff at the start is actually very intentional. It's meant to show the 'expectation' of idol shows, and how there are some creepy people in the world. Pretty much everything in this show is very intentional.
16 is a girl legal marriage age in Japan. So, they'll be adults by 16, that's why. Guess it's the same in Korea too because I did read a Korean based novel where women celebrated their coming of age ceremony at 16, but only in old times. It might not be the same for them now. But for Japanese, it seems that the case is the same until now.
this story is definitely making it a point to comment on the weirdness of the idol industry where grown men crush on teenage girls, so i find it extra weird that people rush to dr. goro's defense over his suspect attitude towards 16 year olds, i mean the nurse literally calls him a lolicon...
Could be that such commenters usually only see such topics brought up in comedy anime, which softens the blow and gives the false impression it's more accepted in Japan than it actually is.
@@mollytovxx4181 yeah, theres usually a lot of "well its normal in japan" tied up in all this, where people often cite legal ages of consent and such, but the legal age of consent in the european country i live in is 16 too, and that doesnt make it any less weird when somebody in their 30s is crushing on a 16 year old
I think it is okay to have couples with an age difference, as long as they are not forced to marry against their will. I don't target women under 20s myself.
Lovely new show yaay! 💕 Ai's death and her talk about not being raised security conscious really got to me 😢 Idk if y'all are into true crime? There's a book - "Gift of Fear" that's a must read for every woman. It helped validate what I thought was an irrational fear of men, and gives actionable advice on interacting with them, paying attention to warning signs, and trusting my intuition, even if they're my "friends" . Can't be too careful around them. Stay safe lovelies! 🤍
The way the doctor talked about Ai is always going to hold me back from fully appreciating his character, or the show. But, it's a decent enough premise for me to carry on watching it.
In Japan, women can marry at the age of 16. This is because women were not allowed to enter society and because Japanese men prefer immature women. Japanese men tend to prefer \"friendly\" women rather than \"beautiful\" women. A \"beautiful woman\" with perfect looks is likely to attract strange yakuza-type men in Japan. ...... Japanese \"female idols\" are defined by their age to be around 20 years old. Compared to other countries, many of these girls are immature and unfinished. Even \"actors\" are seen as idols based on their appearance, and in the Japanese entertainment industry, they are forced to work in swimsuits and gravure from underage.

Literally who told yall there were rules when it came to reincarnation!
25:05 Gotta commend you that you deduce correctly that it was indeed a word play lost in translation. I saw a translation somewhere that makes that joke funny in english Ruby saying "Lick a lying snitch" and Kanna correcting "Flick a crying switch".
I mean, you can just hear it
I haven't yet heard any reactors notice that later in the series you see Kana wearing a T-shirt that says "Baking Soda" on it, like she's finally got tired of being joked AT so now she just owns it.
The creeps calling other guys creeps, really cute.
That's crazyy to have a laugh and a smile of a dying child scene that couldn't dance.
I like that everyone is asking why didn't she get reincarnated right away and yall are asking bout supernatural shit
In the end when she was stabbed, she was just being nice to that guy because she wanted to protect Aqua and Ruby, lie to him was the only way to prevent he would hurt her kids
Did anyone else notice the Play button in the background also get covered with the reflection of Ai's blood?
Rie rie killed her performance with ai 🥲😢
Also keep in mind the legal age in Japan is 16 rather than use standard of 18
They revised it to 18 for both men and women a little later after this piece started.
@@wadepsilon01 ah ok
Also I believe fan =/= in love (in a romantic way)
That’s why he said you will always be an idol and I’ll be always your fan.
Such a crazy first episode but love the fact that this gives fans the real truth about being a idol singer
This is the first time to watch a reaction which skipped the scene where ruby gets to know how to dance...
And the scene where Ai decided to be an idol. Why....
It's weird for pretty much any country outside Japan I mean we all know their obsession with always making characters underage, they're just calling out what it is
@@faxd3448 16 is the age of consent in a lot of US states. I'm not saying that's good, but this isn't Japan being uniquely "backwards."
Todo from jjk would've fit into this world perfectly haha. Tho, I can't see any tall idols around. But yeah, the last 20mins were Def more interesting; what a turn of events.
That funeral for the doctor might have been some scene from the future, whenever someone ends up finding his body.
Or they just held a funeral for him without a body. Or is that just a memorial at that point?
The hospital only treated it as a disappearance, since the body has not been found.
The funeral scene is a metaphor by Aqua.
@@wadepsilon01Sounds about right, now that I’m rewatching that scene it feels a bit goofy that picture used for that funeral.
Just watched this and I havent sobbed this much damn
Re: Baking soda: Arima Kana is known as "the genius child actor who can cry in ten seconds flat," but in Japanese that sounds very similar to the phrase "the genius child actor who licks baking soda." Ruby gets it wrong on purpose to annoy Kana.
I think the "I'll marry you when you turn 16" thing was because they knew she probably wouldn't make it to 16. He was trying to give her hope, let her know he thought she could live.
No it for sure was meant to be that way but people just read too much into it
@@GambitFinale__no it's not, it's just people like you who can't think, though that he was flirting.
Damn you...! DAMN YOU!!!
Damn you for making me cry!! 😭😭
Enjoyed the reaction! Hope you do season 2.
Not only the same writer as Kaguya but it also takes place in the same universe.
The yellow girl is acting like a karen in this one 💀😂
38:00 those comments remind me of twitter userbase in general xD . The worst part of the anime is how realistic it is in terms of how messed up people can be
Maybe it's just me. But it's like they just didn't like it, or they got a spoiler for the show earlier.
oshi no mid
@@walrussan5521 L comment? L comment.
@@SilentioMortus im baiting 😙
I mean... you could already tell they hated the anime already before even watching it in their intro, the middle girl says we are now watching this "overhype anime"...
@@SivTeaze If that's the case, it's a repulsive approach.
What’s crazy imo is that a situation where a insane fans actually found his favorite idol got upset that she told him to chill out and decided to find her home and stab her luckily she survived the stabbing
I hope you're ready for this show I hardly cry and even I was like damn
idk where u guys are watching but after seeing so many oshi no ko reactions, I recognize these subtitles and its the one that sucks
It's the same as people joke is she legal or not. Esp in the west i hear this "joke" often the only diff is legal age in japan back 2 years agk.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a must if you watch anything anime. also Bocchi the rock
Also being raise does not mean being your tutor, is more like I want to be your pupil, take me under your wing.
Well, this anime, even among Japanese anime, is in a strange category.
Nice! Oshi No Ko at last!
I'm just hoping fans will not do anything stupid on episode 6.
Not really spoiler-y, but Aqua does acknowledge it being problematic if he were dating someone underage as a person with the mind of a full-grown adult.
"you cant be mean to me, its pride month" 😭😭😭😭
Yes a murder mistery definetly not about the hardships of the entertaiment indusrty lol
16 is also the age of consent in a lot of western countries. It's weird BECAUSE it is inherently weird, regardless of what thr age of consent is.
@@kalabana8 bro can you read? I said its not AS weird, not saying its not weird
Better call Saul would be a sick reaction, probably not winning polls tho lol
I definitely understand your concerns about the creepiness in the series but this show makes an effort to show the REAL world of being in the entertainment industry. This creepiness is unfortunately how it actually is and it would be a disservice to itself not to shine a spotlight on it. This series makes a massive point of showing just how screwed up Japan's entertainment industry actually is.
Granted im probably a lottle tardy to the party in typing this comment lol
do erased next pls
SECONDED I LOVE ERASED
Finally, reacting to one of the best anime this year. Y'all in for a ride!
The creepy stuff at the start is actually very intentional. It's meant to show the 'expectation' of idol shows, and how there are some creepy people in the world. Pretty much everything in this show is very intentional.
😍Dani🥰
When Oshi No Ko?
Your youtube button was reflecting the blood... cool visual but sad...
Is blue lock
Is it just me? Or the audio is too low? Both the show and the girls.
It's completely screwed. Apparently, most youtubers never heard about audio post-production, even basic volume compression.
Great show
Rimuru pillow!!!
nice content
In Japan, people with good looks tend to be seen as \"idol\", even if they are actors or singers. FMA opening singer YUI was one of them.
You need to check out the Korean drama Goblin This is the most famous drama in Korea. The story is about the love between Goblin and the Grim Reaper
Finally 🎉🎉🎉
this story is definitely making it a point to comment on the weirdness of the idol industry where grown men crush on teenage girls, so i find it extra weird that people rush to dr. goro's defense over his suspect attitude towards 16 year olds, i mean the nurse literally calls him a lolicon...
I don't target women under 20s myself.
finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lovely new show yaay! 💕 Ai's death and her talk about not being raised security conscious really got to me 😢
Idk if y'all are into true crime? There's a book - "Gift of Fear" that's a must read for every woman. It helped validate what I thought was an irrational fear of men, and gives actionable advice on interacting with them, paying attention to warning signs, and trusting my intuition, even if they're my "friends" . Can't be too careful around them. Stay safe lovelies! 🤍
We men are wretched things
ty Lydia!! I am into true crime and will give this a look! can never be too careful , thank you for your advice and kind words
I still think Aqua is Asexual.
You guys are always late to the party lol
Everyone like a pretty face so idol culture just like that
Yeyyy
Finally
Should just watch Heavenly Delusion instead.
