Great video. One of the possible non-combat uses for Do would be like in the 1st episode of the Iron Fist series, were Iron Fist uses meditation and inner piece to calm down a dog. While this could be seen as a use of Life sphere, I like to think is also a use of Animal Ken but using Do. Also, since you covered the Society of Ether you could do Cult of Ecstasy or the Euthanathos next.
This is my favorite Tradition. While not as big or prestigious as ones like the Order of Hermes, ironically the end result they aim for is one of the most well put together. Your foci are mostly always with you (martial arts) or not the most difficult to acquire. Learning requires you to develop a more well rounded life, their objective is transcending conflict with wisdom, with spiritual and philosophical cultivation being indispensable. Admirable foundations indeed. Their flaws are twofold. First is that they are remarkably bad at halting the violence without resorting to extremes, like reclusive asceticism. The second is that their paradigm has a slow advancement rate, requiring commited discipline, with a deeply personal journey that is hard, if not impossible, for masters to standardize. This usually drives many away, frustrated by impatience or blinded by a wish to show off their martial prowess.
so i have a player within my chronicle an akashiana played as a british royal marine stationed in barracks with gurka troops. soldiers can embody the concept of the warrior monk also even if they are from Newcastle i love your carefully thought out analysis of this most amazing roleplay itching to get my hands on technocracy reloaded when its released in print keep up the good work c
I always struggled with the concepts of "traditions" and Mages. The way I saw it a tradition was a way a person used to manipulate reality, and a mage was someone who realized he didn't need the "spells" of their tradition and could just edit reality as they see fit according to their proficient spheres. I always ran Mage campaigns as a traditionalist who has come to realize that they didn't need the chicken bones, the kata or technology to make magic. Am I right?
Ultimately however you want to do your game is right for you. but in the lore a mage is someone who can manipulate reality using sphere magic. they do this through their beliefs, that the "chicken bones" are part of. Very Very powerful mages can transcend using props in their magic, but these god-like beings are not the focus of the game. The traditions are simply groups of mages that work together in an organization, following often inherited systems and beliefs. For me the props and Foci of a mage are the funnest part, and embracing them instead of seeing them as an obstacle is important.
Look at it the other way around. You don´t need the tradition. Nor focus or rotes. But then again this tools are not made to "make it harder" but to facilitate the process. How are you gonna "Hack" reality without a computer? Do you manage to negotiate with a spirit whos language you don´t speak? How do you manage to hear a single voice when you can listen to the thoughts of everyone in a certain radius? The nuance is varible precisely because it´s both the player and the narrators hobby to explore a paradigm and see how crazy it can get.
@@Psity I agree. Mages rarely are able to progress purely through their own development. Why reinvent the wheel if you can find an established group that you can understand, and then use to enhance your understanding of reality. As the famous OoR mage Sir Isaac Newton said, " If I have seen further it is by standing on the sholders [sic] of Giants."
i picked these guys for a mage game cuz they are easy to play no mucking around with coding, drugs, ritual magic, blood or having to build gadgets to channel your magic just mma. my character joined them cuz they are a path to power to fight the technocracy they fight with guns and mma(no trad martial arts), and no points wasted on do(because that is a multiple ability dependant xp sink) i went with 3 correspondence and 3 mind.
I wonder what your thoughts are on using stoicism/neo-stoicism as a background philosophy for a western Akashic character. Fighting styles can seem easily interchangeable for characters of diverse backgrounds, but I'm wondering which non-eastern philosophies/paradigms might reasonably fit into the Brotherhood.
It is called "Dream" oddly enough, and its a free use music track i found a while ago. TH-cam library and plenty of online sites have royalty-free music you can use if you are looking.
Thanks, i’ve been looking for good royalty free music, for some games I am uploading to TH-cam. I found a few good ones, but most of them are not really that good for games, or any kind of ambience.
I enjoyed your video I am trying to get together a group to play Mage the Ascension. I have some of the tradition books I'm thinking about using Mage the Ascension gurps I hope you would do a video on technocracy
Is there any Akashic Brotherhood character in the lore that has hundreds of years? I'm not a mage player, so I was just wondering that. Other mages may extend their lifespan for hundreds of years (or even more), but I don't see an Akhashic doing that.
Cool. A friend of mine is running a game, and my sect is VA, but most of the Cabal is Disperates. We call ourselves "The Untraditionals"... Whether or not that is technically true...🤷🏿♂️
Thanks! I wanted to find something similar to VA in the Disperates, but there really isn't a group quite like them outside "Big Tech", and they're the big dogs in the campaign
Well since you started with the Akashic Brotherhood; you have to follow up with the other side of the coin of the Euthanatos.

They are really good, and your analysis of them is spot on!

I really agree that the paradise of the Akashics is great when taken to unexpected places, sounds like a cool chronical.
One of my favorite factions. I made mine like Daredevil and Shroud from Marvel.
I'd love to see the sons/society of ether next.
that system you described that your GM used sounds really great, i'm gonna use that in my game in the near future
That's awesome Yui! Glad I was some insperation. You got a recommendation for the next videos topic?
Thanks for uploading this man
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for these videos. I'm trying to learn because I'm going to run a mage game.
Would love to see a video on the Verbena! Thanks for this video
I am so glad to find this. I may be playing a game soon and that core book is THICK, there isn't much of Mage the Ascension on TH-cam
Thanks John!
make one about cult of ecstasy and/or virtual adepts
wainting for the dreamspeakers
Thanks for posting - I quite enjoyed it , good condensation of the background and solid tips for playing an Akashi . Thank you !
Thank you!
Big fan of mage and look forward to your views on spellcasting. I have subscribed and look forward to more of your works.
How do you mean spell casting Nieo?
Good video! Alphabetically would be cool but I think the Hermetic Order would be really neat for the next one.

Thank you so much. I really love making them, but life has got in the way recently. I do plan on keeping it going with this series though.
Awesome mate, really interesting
Thanks man. :)

Hey, nice video! By the way, what is the name of the song?
Oh yeah and where do you get your awesome background music from? Dream speakers would be my suggestion.

Hi Anthony, my first ever video was on the technocracy. Look on the channel videos. Thanks!

I definitely imagine so! I don't actually get that in to canon lore but there must be some very old akashics!
Dream speakers please!
Can you do anything on the Disperates? and the Virtual Adepts?
I have another video half-made, and then VA are next.on the list
Cool. A friend of mine is running a game, and my sect is VA, but most of the Cabal is Disperates.

ha, that's awesome. I love the disparates, Ngoma and Wu lung are two of the most interesting mystic group out there.
Thanks! I wanted to find something similar to VA in the Disperates, but there really isn't a group quite like them outside "Big Tech", and they're the big dogs in the campaign
I had considered Ngoma and Orphans for a while for my character, but I wanted something that fit my concept.
One of the team is a Hollow One tho
fucking great
DO is human ❤
continue alphabetically just like in the book
Please; you know there is only one mage tradition that matters.
Order of Hermes.
Said like a true Tytalus.
