Great response. On the broader scale I see it as something we all go through. We sometimes have to kill off the old self in order to be born anew. That includes who we are good and bad. Personal growth always comes at a cost to the old self.

Ren is independent mostly because of the unpredictability of his chronic illness. He had a deal with Sony when he was 18/19 but fell ill and was unable to continue to perform. He had Lyme disease but spent six+ years being misdiagnosed with mental illness among other things. He finally received a proper diagnosis, but the disease and incorrect treatments have left him with a myriad of chronic conditions and autoimmunity that flares up with stress. This means he is unable to tour or even perform on a regular basis. Thank you for promoting him. Ren and the Renegades truly appreciate the reaction community. ❤
After Hi Ren went viral he entertained meetings with labels, but has turned them all down. He legitimately wouldn't gain much of anything from selling his autonomy but money, he's been able to do it all with his close crew.
Ren is staying independent because he doesn't want his music censored, controlled or dictated to by a label. A label can do nothing for Ren because he can do everything himself and with his team. The only thing the label could offer is millions of dollars. Ren said he is comfortable money wise and can pay for his medical bills. He isn't greedy so they are barking up the wrong tree. Besides he thinks they are greedy scum. I don't think it has anything to do with his chronic illness and why he is staying independent. He could write his own big check and put out music at his own pace without even touring and those labels would bend over backwards to sign him.
@@kellyt5341 I just knew I’d get shit for this comment and I’m not here to argue, but the truth is he has said different things at times and has had different experiences with different labels, managers, etc. He didn’t have a problem with his deal with Sony and if he hadn’t gotten sick, who knows whether he’d be with a label or not. I do agree that he’s done amazing on his own, his current situation seems best for him now and he has an amazing and supportive team.
@@LadyGX Sorry I didn't mean to sound like a b!tch. You are right, I think he would likely be a household name if he stayed with Sony(and obviously didn't get sick). He might of even had the chance to finish his contract and go independent. His manager was a prick at that time and didn't allow him to leave that contact without a fight his song "Power" was to celebrate his release from said..prick). It was the same manager that Chinchilla had and she hated him. The Sony rep seemed like they split on good terms but others things have happened behind the scenes because Ren is very fair and forgiving but the whole thing hardened him to the music industry/labels. The record label situation was more than Ren is saying or he wouldn't be so disgusted by it. That is my opinion anyways, but is was a blessing in disguise. Sorry about the tone. 🤗
@@kellyt5341I don't think it was his own brush with Sony that annoyed Ren, whatever it was came later. His management, for sure, he's always had a tone of annoyance and anger speaking about that. And he's talked about people he knows being controlled. Who knows if he had more personal experiences or if he was just learning through others, but it wasn't that first contract or Eric, his contact there.

TOTALLY… what this is… a period to end his covering of his illness/rap about it…. I just heard him singing with Sam Tompkins busking…wow, his singing voice…. Amazing range and ability with his singing voice as well… well rounded.
Ren has been in a battle medically for around 14 years now. The 1st 8 years was a struggle for him to actually find out he had Lyme Disease, and being misdiagnosed and constantly prescribed antipsychotics & other powerful meds during all that time. After receiving a full free stem cell transplant & treatment; from a doctor who owned a clinic & saw Ren health blong online & wanted to help him, he slowly started to get his life back. Unfortunately, between being misdiagnosed for so long & taking all the unneeded wrong meds, the Lyme disease kept ravaging his body so he wasn't able to fully recover. Ren ended up developing multiple complications as well as autoimmune problems, like MCAS, Brain damage (deteriorating membrane surrounding his cerebral cortex) and severe digestive issues. He spent over a year in Calgary, Canada receiving treatment for these issues, tring to reverse or at least slow down the damage that was created. He was feeling better and things were looking up when he returned to the UK but unfortunately his health crashed, he returned to Canada for a some intensive treatment that he recently stopped. Ren couldn't take going through that treatment from scratch & being alone again for such a long time, so far away from home, his family & friends. He's back in the UK now on bed rest and trying to recover & come to terms that he may never be able to tour & promote his music. His spirits are really down. All this is updating you, so that you can get a feel for what parts of this song is touching on. Verses 1 & 2 touches heavily on his health struggles from the past couple of years (mind you this was before his recent health crash). At end of verse #2 he honors the memory of his best mate Joe, who played a big role in his life and last album "Sick Boi". Here's my little breakdown of what I believe Ren is poetically saying in verses 3 & 4 but as you know sometimes poetry & art can be self interpretive. Verse #3: Ren is giving us a deep double by using Skelington instead of the word Skeleton as in a reference to Jack Skelington from "The Nightmare Before Christmas". "The story goes that Jack is loved, respected, and even idolized by the other residents for what Jack does for them, but he has grown weary of celebrating the same holiday endlessly and is depressed about it." So this could very well mean that Ren might feel pigeon hold, how some fans idolize and celebrate him mostly for the work from the Sick Boi Album. He's trying to say he's hoping to be known for more than just rap & only the music that revolved around the most painful part of his life. (((This would fit because by the end of this song he's essentially killing off the Sick Boi and all the dark and light variations of that character (Hi Ren). At the end of this song a new Ren emerges for the upcoming album which is also titled Slaughter House.))) In verse #4: Touch on what we can look forward to in the new album. Ren is Dexter & he's created a crazy new album in his lab. "Working in a lab a mad bad lad, Dexter" - referencing (Dexter's Lab) Unlike his Sick Boi album, Ren only has a couple of hip hop tracks, the bulk of the album is 90% melodic, so he's looking to switch up his style on the new album to blow us away. "Switch up the style like bi-sex, impress you" He also saying that he's worked hard writing new songs, making them heavy & electrifying - "Heavy lift - tricep, bicep, I flex the Thunder and lightning writing, I'm Tesla Connect, direct it, hertz disconnect The last part I believe is just Ren being a little bit braggadocious. He's letting us know how good he believes the new album is. Ren may even silence some naysayers & haters out there with the new twist on this album, which is the "bullet" he's referencing & in the end they'll all "kneel to the emperor" & give Ren his flowers. " Coming for your neck, the head debt collector A million degrees graduate semester A bullet in the knee till you kneel to the emperor", That's just my 2 cents worth 😜... for all that's worth lol. I think you are pretty much spot on .I also believe that Ren Gill is the most important incomparable unique independent artist of the first half of the 21st Century. He is the tide that can lift all ships one only has to look at the reactors who have been lifted because of him .

Just found your channel. Plenty of labels have approached him but he has turned them all down. He wants to stay independent and be able to do what he wants to do. If he had a label with all the promotion behind him, he'd be absolutely huge, but he relies on reactors like yourself and all the Renegades to spread the word. Ren oozes talent. A couple of folks in the comments have already mentioned what the premise is behind this song - basically Ren having to recreate himself after each health flare up. The beat on this song is filthy and I love it. ♥

The pig is Sick Boi (there is more, but let’s keep it simple).. this song is the title track from his new album and this is imo an incredible creative and beautiful representation of killing the old (Sick Boi) so that the new can grow (bunny at the end is Johnson.. the logo for the new album) Also he was approached numerous times for deals.. but as he does everything himself, he effectively doesn’t need a deal… and most of them also had an issue that he could not tour (he might never be able to tour).. he is way better off being independent and I think he is good enough to grow organically..
In the livestream after the video release, Ren commented that we all are our own worst critics and the video is about him killing himself over and over again. In the past, Ren has also said that the ideas for visuals often happen at the same time he is writing songs so they are closely tied together.
Just caught you on my front page and you were reacting to Ren, as a longtime Renegade. I support anyone who reacts to Ren and the fact you are working to expose good art to the social masses, added plus. Here is a Sub and I'll be tuning in. For a background, Ren was signed with Sony Records in his teen years, discovered busking on the streets of Brighton by a Sony Producer. But once he was struck down with Lyme disease, he was unable fulfill his contractual obligations. He is very anti-industry and it was only after Hi-Ren went viral, Ren began blowing up. Of course during his worst years of being ill, bed ridden, he wrote and produced a massive library of music in a home built studio. His Supporters, rabid for more Ren, nicked the term Ren Rabbit Hole and as a result of his fandom and support of Reactors, Ren's "Sic Boi" landed #1 on the UK Charts, taking out the likes of Drake and Rick Astley. This with no label, no marketing budget and as a true independent. I could go on and write a literal book of all things Ren, but this is the short of it.

Welcome to the Slaughter House!!! IMO Ren is trapped inside his head being tortured by himself as we all tend to do and the multiple Ren's are just different versions of himself. When you are chronically ill and coming out of the Hell Ren said it is it like you have to rebuild yourself and shake of the old version of you. On a sadder note he said the last 2 months have been horrible and he's been in pain and mostly bed ridden again which also triggered his PTSD. Ren had a deal with Sony but they did not drop him it was a mutual parting of the ways as Ren was too ill. There was no bad blood and Sony actually released and allowed him to independently release some of the songs he did for Sony...they did not have to do it. I think Ren staying independent is the best route to go. Once you get a label behind you, you lose a lot of your own creativity cuz the label wants you to go another way and I highly doubt they would allow him to speak (meaning the content of his music) so openly and honestly about the world and all the things he stands for and against. It’s all about cycles, and Ren feels like his relapses of illness are cycles, and who he is dies off and he has to reinvent himself again once he’s through the worst and functioning again, hence he’s killing himself over and over in the video. Yeah, he's had loads of record deal offers but prefers to stay in complete control of content and timelines. He doesn't need them to achieve what he's trying to achieve. When he was young (and just starting to suffer with undiagnosed Lyme) he was signed by Sony, but the contract petered out whilst he was too ill to sustain doing shows. They agreed to let him release material he wrote during that time - and I presume that must have been at least partly because he didn't have an uncleared advance and probably didn't take any significant money off them !
Every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren! He's turned them all down! With Ren, it really is all about the music! :) There's not much they could offer him anyway. Musically and video wise, Ren already does everything himself anyway. He directs and edits most of his own videos. He produces, mixes and masters his own music. He plays about a dozen different instruments. All self taught, of course! He has incredible vocals, capable of multiple voices and tones. He raps like a rap god, scats and beatboxes brilliantly! His performance skills are first-class and his stage presence is palpable! His songwriting is world-class! He's a poet really and a bloody great poet at hat! He writes and performs in every genre and doesn't miss! Ren can do it all live! Genuinely live too! Not what they call "live" nowadays. :) To top it all, he's a handsome young man, with the body of a greek god a diamond of a human being! :) He has everything he needs. What could they offer him? Publicity? Getting his name into the nominations, for Brits and Grammies? A chance at a significantly greater income? These are not the priorities of his life, partly because of everything he's been through. What's more, he's succeeding without them! They don't like it but he's doing it anyway! When yyou have genuine talent and charisma, 'word of mouth' can be powerful! :)
He did Freckled Angels when he started to get better again 6 years later. Around half of the songs on it were stuff he wrote while with Sony, I believe.
Yeah, he said suck a clit 😂 He said it was originally dick but his friend said it should change so he dubbed it in. The Sick Boi album had a few non-Ren beats and samples and he sent it out for mastering, but this entire upcoming album is 100% Ren, excepting features, of course. He produced the beats, played the live instruments - no samples, mixed and mastered the entire album. He co-directed this video, edited it and did the sound production. Just watched part 1 of the behind the scenes yesterday on his Patreon and the head of the company he used for filming was gushing about what a great creative crew Ren had assembled and how impressed he was by Ren, himself. He has recently been offered deals with basically every major label and turned them down. He's also apparently turned down features with some big name artists (according to Knox Hill). Ren has said he'd rather perform with someone who has zero following that he vibes with than someone with clout that he doesn't. Case in point - Kit is a woman he met in treatment in Canada and only found out she could sing after they'd become friends. She's apparently all over album. As for female artists, this is the first Ren has had on a rap rap track, but he has done songs with a number of women - primarily fellow Brighton buskers, I think, though at least Chinchilla has had a breakout moment. He had a rap feature on a remix for Venbee and does do some rapping on his two songs with Eden Nash. No matter who it is or where he picks them up, though, Ren does certainly find and collect talent around himself. Nice art! I don't really use IG much like that but I gave you a follow. If I'm not mistaken he did have a record deal at one point early on in his career bit then he got really sick and ended up being dropped. Now he is completely independent, produces all of his own stuff. He's a rare one for sure.
Ren does give credit to the sony rep because after he was dropped because he couldn't fullfill his contract, they did let him keep (free and clear) the songs or work that he did under contract with them. @tattooedandreviewed . More specifically, Ren said the contract just expired while he was too sick to record. There was no ill-will on either side. To the contrary, they released the songs he had recorded for Sony to him with no strings or cost so he could use them on his Freckled Angels album. Roughly half that album, which he finished and released from his house to raise money for treatments.
"A few years back" was around 14 years ago when he was around 20. And yes, he was not dropped; he got sick and did release the work he had done with them himself six years later when he got some of his energi back.
Yes, he was offered contracts. When he was 19 he has a contract with Sony; but, his illness kept him from fulfilling the contract and it lapsed. The recent offers were turned down as Ren has his own vision for his music. I enjoyed your reaction. Looking forward to the next.

Ren did sign with Sony.... unfortunately for Sony, Ren's illness became a big issue for them when he couldn't keep up to his commitments because of health issues, so stupidly for them they dissolved his contract.... Ren was allowed to keep the music he created with them and keep using it himself... I say unfortunately for them (Sony) because if they'd seen past their short sighted $$$$'s view of the music industry, they could have retained Ren's services and made billions of $'s, but modern day music is all about instant gratification, and not real artistry... Ren's freedom as an independent artist is only limited by the $'s he can earn, to create new music and video's even he has to earn money, fortunately for Ren he now has a huge army of Renegades who have his back, and has more financial freedom to be more expressive with video's (his music has always been awesome but his video budgets very limited).. Ren has a logo for each album except "Demo's I and Demo's II"... Freckled Angels is "Angels Wings", Sick Boi is "A dead pig" and Slaughter House is a "Rabbit" the rabbit is called Johnson btw...
Sony did not dissolve Ren's contract. Contracts are for a certain period of time. Ren's contract simply lapsed/ended because he was too ill to perform. He has no hard feelings toward Sony concerning that deal. When he was trying to raise money to leave UK for treatment, he managed to put together his Freckled Angels album. He asked permission of Sony to use several songs that he had recorded for them. They did not have to let him have them but they said yes. Record labels def earn their bad reputations but this interaction was not that.

"The Sony contract (to produce and promote an album within a certain amount of time) expires, with regret but no rancor on either side; there is no lack of compassion for his illness at the label, and no person deciding to "drop" him because of it" The reason I said "Dissolved" is that in contract terms dissolved simply means not continued, and both party's go back to what their original status was before the contract was signed, Sony still had the option to continue to work with Ren on the album, they could have renegotiated or created a new contract with Ren, they decided not to, which is the point I was making in the original post. Simply said "Sony dropped the ball on this one". They didn't see enough value in Ren to continue working with him despite his health issues. How wrong they were.
Who says Ren is underrated? Nay nay I say! Only one thing that upsets me is Ren getting inked! His skin is beautiful without any added art. I have tats, got them at age 50, I am 75 now. I waited because I didn't want my younger prettier skin messed up with ink. Art is great, ink art if done well, and artistically that's fine, but just to get a tat just to get one isn't the best idea. Too much ink just doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, I am on a rant. I have nothing against art or tats, but when it's too much then it loses it's impact with something neat and clean and artistic with a smart statement.

He got sick and could not continue recording. Six years later when he was able to do music again he got all the rights to the things he did with them and released them himself on the Freckled Angels album. Sony did not do anything wrong (this time).

The music he did then was already really good and with the help of Sony he might have become one of the "great". It would not have been the same Ren though. Being sick changes you and he would not have been as free as he is now. But it could still have been good. Saying that his sickness was a good thing is a little bit strong; but yes, I would have missed current Ren.

Ren is independent mostly because of the unpredictability of his chronic illness. He had a deal with Sony when he was 18/19 but fell ill and was unable to continue to perform. He had Lyme disease but spent six+ years being misdiagnosed with mental illness among other things. He finally received a proper diagnosis, but the disease and incorrect treatments have left him with a myriad of chronic conditions and autoimmunity that flares up with stress. This means he is unable to tour or even perform on a regular basis.

After Hi Ren went viral he entertained meetings with labels, but has turned them all down. He legitimately wouldn't gain much of anything from selling his autonomy but money, he's been able to do it all with his close crew.
Ren is staying independent because he doesn't want his music censored, controlled or dictated to by a label. A label can do nothing for Ren because he can do everything himself and with his team. The only thing the label could offer is millions of dollars. Ren said he is comfortable money wise and can pay for his medical bills. He isn't greedy so they are barking up the wrong tree. Besides he thinks they are greedy scum. I don't think it has anything to do with his chronic illness and why he is staying independent. He could write his own big check and put out music at his own pace without even touring and those labels would bend over backwards to sign him.
@@kellyt5341 I just knew I’d get shit for this comment and I’m not here to argue, but the truth is he has said different things at times and has had different experiences with different labels, managers, etc. He didn’t have a problem with his deal with Sony and if he hadn’t gotten sick, who knows whether he’d be with a label or not. I do agree that he’s done amazing on his own, his current situation seems best for him now and he has an amazing and supportive team.
@@LadyGX Sorry I didn't mean to sound like a b!tch. You are right, I think he would likely be a household name if he stayed with Sony(and obviously didn't get sick). He might of even had the chance to finish his contract and go independent. His manager was a prick at that time and didn't allow him to leave that contact without a fight his song "Power" was to celebrate his release from said..prick). It was the same manager that Chinchilla had and she hated him. The Sony rep seemed like they split on good terms but others things have happened behind the scenes because Ren is very fair and forgiving but the whole thing hardened him to the music industry/labels. The record label situation was more than Ren is saying or he wouldn't be so disgusted by it. That is my opinion anyways, but is was a blessing in disguise. Sorry about the tone. 🤗
@@kellyt5341I don't think it was his own brush with Sony that annoyed Ren, whatever it was came later. His management, for sure, he's always had a tone of annoyance and anger speaking about that. And he's talked about people he knows being controlled. Who knows if he had more personal experiences or if he was just learning through others, but it wasn't that first contract or Eric, his contact there.

Ren has been in a battle medically for around 14 years now. The 1st 8 years was a struggle for him to actually find out he had Lyme Disease, and being misdiagnosed and constantly prescribed antipsychotics & other powerful meds during all that time. After receiving a full free stem cell transplant & treatment; from a doctor who owned a clinic & saw Ren health blong online & wanted to help him, he slowly started to get his life back.
Unfortunately, between being misdiagnosed for so long & taking all the unneeded wrong meds, the Lyme disease kept ravaging his body so he wasn't able to fully recover. Ren ended up developing multiple complications as well as autoimmune problems, like MCAS, Brain damage (deteriorating membrane surrounding his cerebral cortex) and severe digestive issues. He spent over a year in Calgary, Canada receiving treatment for these issues, tring to reverse or at least slow down the damage that was created.
He was feeling better and things were looking up when he returned to the UK but unfortunately his health crashed, he returned to Canada for a some intensive treatment that he recently stopped. Ren couldn't take going through that treatment from scratch & being alone again for such a long time, so far away from home, his family & friends. He's back in the UK now on bed rest and trying to recover & come to terms that he may never be able to tour & promote his music. His spirits are really down.
All this is updating you, so that you can get a feel for what parts of this song is touching on. Verses 1 & 2 touches heavily on his health struggles from the past couple of years (mind you this was before his recent health crash). At end of verse #2 he honors the memory of his best mate Joe, who played a big role in his life and last album "Sick Boi".
Here's my little breakdown of what I believe Ren is poetically saying in verses 3 & 4 but as you know sometimes poetry & art can be self interpretive.
Verse #3:
Ren is giving us a deep double by using Skelington instead of the word Skeleton as in a reference to Jack Skelington from "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
"The story goes that Jack is loved, respected, and even idolized by the other residents for what Jack does for them, but he has grown weary of celebrating the same holiday endlessly and is depressed about it."
So this could very well mean that Ren might feel pigeon hold, how some fans idolize and celebrate him mostly for the work from the Sick Boi Album. He's trying to say he's hoping to be known for more than just rap & only the music that revolved around the most painful part of his life.
(((This would fit because by the end of this song he's essentially killing off the Sick Boi and all the dark and light variations of that character (Hi Ren). At the end of this song a new Ren emerges for the upcoming album which is also titled Slaughter House.)))
In verse #4: Touch on what we can look forward to in the new album.
Ren is Dexter & he's created a crazy new album in his lab.
"Working in a lab a mad bad lad, Dexter" - referencing (Dexter's Lab)
Unlike his Sick Boi album, Ren only has a couple of hip hop tracks, the bulk of the album is 90% melodic, so he's looking to switch up his style on the new album to blow us away.

He also saying that he's worked hard writing new songs, making them heavy & electrifying -

The last part I believe is just Ren being a little bit braggadocious. He's letting us know how good he believes the new album is. Ren may even silence some naysayers & haters out there with the new twist on this album, which is the "bullet" he's referencing & in the end they'll all "kneel to the emperor" & give Ren his flowers.

Just found your channel. Plenty of labels have approached him but he has turned them all down. He wants to stay independent and be able to do what he wants to do. If he had a label with all the promotion behind him, he'd be absolutely huge, but he relies on reactors like yourself and all the Renegades to spread the word. Ren oozes talent.

Also he was approached numerous times for deals.. but as he does everything himself, he effectively doesn’t need a deal… and most of them also had an issue that he could not tour (he might never be able to tour).. he is way better off being independent and I think he is good enough to grow organically..

Heaven, hell, earth greek methodology
In the livestream after the video release, Ren commented that we all are our own worst critics and the video is about him killing himself over and over again. In the past, Ren has also said that the ideas for visuals often happen at the same time he is writing songs so they are closely tied together.
Just caught you on my front page and you were reacting to Ren, as a longtime Renegade. I support anyone who reacts to Ren and the fact you are working to expose good art to the social masses, added plus. Here is a Sub and I'll be tuning in. For a background, Ren was signed with Sony Records in his teen years, discovered busking on the streets of Brighton by a Sony Producer. But once he was struck down with Lyme disease, he was unable fulfill his contractual obligations. He is very anti-industry and it was only after Hi-Ren went viral, Ren began blowing up. Of course during his worst years of being ill, bed ridden, he wrote and produced a massive library of music in a home built studio. His Supporters, rabid for more Ren, nicked the term Ren Rabbit Hole and as a result of his fandom and support of Reactors, Ren's "Sic Boi" landed #1 on the UK Charts, taking out the likes of Drake and Rick Astley. This with no label, no marketing budget and as a true independent. I could go on and write a literal book of all things Ren, but this is the short of it.

The words are ancient Greek mythology. Elysium is heaven, Tartarus is essentially a dungeon in Hades for evil Titans, and Gaia is earth. He also mentions the Sword of Damocles which is a Greek tale, the Sword is representative of always being in danger of something bad happening, or ppl in power do so at great risk.

Welcome to the Slaughter House!!! IMO Ren is trapped inside his head being tortured by himself as we all tend to do and the multiple Ren's are just different versions of himself. When you are chronically ill and coming out of the Hell Ren said it is it like you have to rebuild yourself and shake of the old version of you. On a sadder note he said the last 2 months have been horrible and he's been in pain and mostly bed ridden again which also triggered his PTSD. Ren had a deal with Sony but they did not drop him it was a mutual parting of the ways as Ren was too ill. There was no bad blood and Sony actually released and allowed him to independently release some of the songs he did for Sony...they did not have to do it. I think Ren staying independent is the best route to go. Once you get a label behind you, you lose a lot of your own creativity cuz the label wants you to go another way and I highly doubt they would allow him to speak (meaning the content of his music) so openly and honestly about the world and all the things he stands for and against. Elysium is the best bit of heaven, Tartaros the worst bit of hell, and Gia Mother Earth. It’s all about cycles, and Ren feels like his relapses of illness are cycles, and who he is dies off and he has to reinvent himself again once he’s through the worst and functioning again, hence he’s killing himself over and over in the video. There is so much in both the lyrics and the video, you will keep seeing something new.

Yeah, he's had loads of record deal offers but prefers to stay in complete control of content and timelines. He doesn't need them to achieve what he's trying to achieve. When he was young (and just starting to suffer with undiagnosed Lyme) he was signed by Sony, but the contract petered out whilst he was too ill to sustain doing shows. They agreed to let him release material he wrote during that time - and I presume that must have been at least partly because he didn't have an uncleared advance and probably didn't take any significant money off them !
Every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren! He's turned them all down! With Ren, it really is all about the music! :) There's not much they could offer him anyway. Musically and video wise, Ren already does everything himself anyway. He directs and edits most of his own videos. He produces, mixes and masters his own music. He plays about a dozen different instruments. All self taught, of course! He has incredible vocals, capable of multiple voices and tones. He raps like a rap god, scats and beatboxes brilliantly! His performance skills are first-class and his stage presence is palpable! His songwriting is world-class! He's a poet really and a bloody great poet at hat! He writes and performs in every genre and doesn't miss! Ren can do it all live! Genuinely live too! Not what they call "live" nowadays. :)
To top it all, he's a handsome young man, with the body of a greek god a diamond of a human being! :) He has everything he needs. What could they offer him? Publicity? Getting his name into the nominations, for Brits and Grammies? A chance at a significantly greater income? These are not the priorities of his life, partly because of everything he's been through. What's more, he's succeeding without them! They don't like it but he's doing it anyway! When yyou have genuine talent and charisma, 'word of mouth' can be powerful! :)
Ren signed with sony uk in 2014? The music he created under sony became freckled angels. He had to give it up because of his illness.
I believe it was earlier. He is born 1990 and was 19 or 20 when he was "discovered" by them so I guess 2010.
He did Freckled Angels when he started to get better again 6 years later. Around half of the songs on it were stuff he wrote while with Sony, I believe.

The Sick Boi album had a few non-Ren beats and samples and he sent it out for mastering, but this entire upcoming album is 100% Ren, excepting features, of course. He produced the beats, played the live instruments - no samples, mixed and mastered the entire album. He co-directed this video, edited it and did the sound production. Just watched part 1 of the behind the scenes yesterday on his Patreon and the head of the company he used for filming was gushing about what a great creative crew Ren had assembled and how impressed he was by Ren, himself.
He has recently been offered deals with basically every major label and turned them down. He's also apparently turned down features with some big name artists (according to Knox Hill). Ren has said he'd rather perform with someone who has zero following that he vibes with than someone with clout that he doesn't. Case in point - Kit is a woman he met in treatment in Canada and only found out she could sing after they'd become friends. She's apparently all over album.
As for female artists, this is the first Ren has had on a rap rap track, but he has done songs with a number of women - primarily fellow Brighton buskers, I think, though at least Chinchilla has had a breakout moment. He had a rap feature on a remix for Venbee and does do some rapping on his two songs with Eden Nash. No matter who it is or where he picks them up, though, Ren does certainly find and collect talent around himself.

More specifically, Ren said the contract just expired while he was too sick to record. There was no ill-will on either side. To the contrary, they released the songs he had recorded for Sony to him with no strings or cost so he could use them on his Freckled Angels album. Roughly half that album, which he finished and released from his house to raise money for treatments.
"A few years back" was around 14 years ago when he was around 20.
And yes, he was not dropped; he got sick and did release the work he had done with them himself six years later when he got some of his energi back.

The wordplay wizard went off on this one! And he went a little dark too 🖤 An absolute genius at putting his struggles into art. Also while the song was written and the video filmed before his recent health dive, it certainly adds a layer to the experience of this track. Luckily he seems to have gotten through the worst of it as he’s back showing his face on instagram and even did a long twitch stream after the premiere. There were some very emotional moments, but also hopeful ones. Our sick boi can eat rice now!

Ren did sign with Sony.... unfortunately for Sony, Ren's illness became a big issue for them when he couldn't keep up to his commitments because of health issues, so stupidly for them they dissolved his contract.... Ren was allowed to keep the music he created with them and keep using it himself...
I say unfortunately for them (Sony) because if they'd seen past their short sighted $$$$'s view of the music industry, they could have retained Ren's services and made billions of $'s, but modern day music is all about instant gratification, and not real artistry...
Ren's freedom as an independent artist is only limited by the $'s he can earn, to create new music and video's even he has to earn money, fortunately for Ren he now has a huge army of Renegades who have his back, and has more financial freedom to be more expressive with video's (his music has always been awesome but his video budgets very limited)..
Ren has a logo for each album except "Demo's I and Demo's II"... Freckled Angels is "Angels Wings", Sick Boi is "A dead pig" and Slaughter House is a "Rabbit" the rabbit is called Johnson btw...
Sony did not dissolve Ren's contract. Contracts are for a certain period of time. Ren's contract simply lapsed/ended because he was too ill to perform. He has no hard feelings toward Sony concerning that deal. When he was trying to raise money to leave UK for treatment, he managed to put together his Freckled Angels album. He asked permission of Sony to use several songs that he had recorded for them. They did not have to let him have them but they said yes. Record labels def earn their bad reputations but this interaction was not that.

The reason I said "Dissolved" is that in contract terms dissolved simply means not continued, and both party's go back to what their original status was before the contract was signed, Sony still had the option to continue to work with Ren on the album, they could have renegotiated or created a new contract with Ren, they decided not to, which is the point I was making in the original post. Simply said "Sony dropped the ball on this one". They didn't see enough value in Ren to continue working with him despite his health issues. How wrong they were.

Who says Ren is underrated? Nay nay I say! Only one thing that upsets me is Ren getting inked! His skin is beautiful without any added art. I have tats, got them at age 50, I am 75 now. I waited because I didn't want my younger prettier skin messed up with ink. Art is great, ink art if done well, and artistically that's fine, but just to get a tat just to get one isn't the best idea. Too much ink just doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, I am on a rant. I have nothing against art or tats, but when it's too much then it loses it's impact with something neat and clean and artistic with a smart statement.

He got sick and could not continue recording. Six years later when he was able to do music again he got all the rights to the things he did with them and released them himself on the Freckled Angels album. Sony did not do anything wrong (this time).
@ancltube yeah and it's a good thing because it would have never work with them. He is to free and definitely wouldn't conform to the industry guidelines
@@shawnstarck826 We will never know what would have happen if a 20 year old Ren had not gotten sick. The music he did then was already really good and with the help of Sony he might have become one of the "great".
It would not have been the same Ren though. Being sick changes you and he would not have been as free as he is now. But it could still have been good.
Saying that his sickness was a good thing is a little bit strong; but yes, I would have missed current Ren.
