    Ok, great ideas to TREAT the area. But, the person asked how TO PREVENT DOG FROM BITING the area! The treatments you mentioned when applied will only cause the dog to attack it, making it worse. So, what can be done to STOP the dog from BITING ITSELF!!!!! A cone collar maybe???

    So I have a 7 month old puppy, Evan, who has been scratching and biting himself since we got him. He scratches and bites himself so much that he has bald spots where hair won’t grow and scabs. We got a medical shampoo that we let sit on him for 20-25 mins before washing it off and we bathe him twice a week. It helps a little but barely. We give him benydol also (both recommended by our vet) and that just makes him very drowsy. Needless to say, he still has a big issue. We have him wearing a cone and baby clothes a lot to prevent biting but you can see he can’t help himself to scratch as much as possible and he’s suffering from it. I also, don’t know if it’s related, but our first time boarding him for the holidays- he came back with an infected eye. A bald, red circle around the eye, and some inflammation. We’ve been giving him an eye wash that is helping but it still makes me wonder if he scratched his eye and was allergic to something. Anyway, I love the poor guy and really want him to be happy. The benydols drowsiness makes him lethargic and he isn’t himself. I just want him to have a normal dogs life. To play and not suffer. And the medical bills are getting so high that I worry we won’t have the means to help him enough. Please help me! I love him so much.
    Also:
    The vet recorded that Evan is calm and I want to let you know he’s easy to work with. He does also pull out his hair and it’s thinning. There appears to be no flakes in his skin. He takes trifexis now so I can rule out parasites and such. But, as I said, he’s been doing this since we got him. Also, he grows extra hair in his ears

    Besides possible problem with fleas which is relatively cheap to control. For our retriever Have found that antihistamine shots or tablets have solved problems of skin rash and paw biting.

      @HealthcareforPets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rob, antihistamines definitely can be helpful. If you are unsure as to the source of your dog's skin and paw issues, we have some info on the topic that you may find helpful but strongly encourage having your pup checked out by a vet: www.healthcareforpets.com/question-answer/my-dog-is-itching-so-much-that-he-has-developed-patches-and-redness-what-are-the-causes-and-treatment/ and www.healthcareforpets.com/question-answer/my-dog-has-itchy-paws-what-is-the-cause-and-treatment/. This may be a stupid question, but there are people who Swear by it, but I'm still hesitant cuz i heard from professionals that this could be toxic to my dog...but I'm gna ask anyway..... MOTOR OIL ????
    I actually was yelled at by someone while walking my dog, they seen her bald spots in her but, and they practically demanded I pour Motor Oil??? On my dog as a treatment???
    I started putting vegetable Oil instead though, but in the back of my mind I'm really questioning if I should do that cuz she's not improving , and yes I also can't afford no vet. I can't even afford my own doctor, but I have insurance😥. Please I need another professional opinion on something home remedy wise if possible?
