  • Using the Vulcan No. 1 Chain Vise popular from 1900 to 1910. I mounted it onto a board that I can mount in my vise or clamp to a bench... Nice tool!

    Great old tool . I was introduced to that tool in my early 1970's Construction apprenticeship , and used it in our shop many times over the next 40 years . When ever we had to cut or thread round stock or pipe . That 2x6 board mount , and spacers you made to fill those 1/2" mounting holes was a great idea .

      Thanks Dave, it's a shame that many of these old tools were tossed years ago because people had no idea how they are used.

    Your videos on the proper use of tools are always useful. They show how to get the most from a tool, and no doubt you have saved more than a few injuries. Best regards from the Intermountain west.

    Well I'm blowed. This is exactly the problem that I have been trying to solve for the past few weeks. I have had the exact same Vulcan no 1 chain vice in a box in my garage for years, and have been frothing over how to fix it on my workbench. The spacers idea is the one I will copy and now I know how to fix it. Brilliant. Many thanks for this.

And I have a BIG regular vise on my shed workbench, hopefully ill do a video on just my workbenches, and why I have 4 workbenches. Thunbs up on this Good video.

    Nice idea. I may have to grab one myself. My wife has been interested in all the stuff people have been making out of pipe like shelves and all. This would come in handy if we decide to make any of that stuff.

    OK, you are just making my tool addiction worse! I just bought an Armstrong Bros. 2c chain vise from Ebay. I blame you Scoutcrafter! LOL! I guess I can't blame you for the four vises I already have, but you're not helping : ) Hope you had a good Christmas.

    • @ScoutCrafter

      Hi smellyellow! It's obvious you enjoy tinkering with tools and have that same DNA strand that all of us tool addicts have! While some guys go to a bar and spend $100 in a couple hours, we will buy a few tools that will last a lifetime and always retain their value! I don't know what State you live in but I would strongly suggest you attend a Steam Engine Show. I can recommend a few depending on where you live! They are great and you will find buys there that you can't imagine and the best part is everybody at the show shares our affliction! (Tool-addiction). Thanks!!! 😃👍

      Cool. I never thought of that. I live near the west coast of central Florida. Pasco county. If you watch "live pd" on A&E, most of the time they are my area. Unfortunately we have a big drug problem here.

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      smellyellow Look up Florida Flywheelers, they have a big show/swap meet in your area Jan 17-20th. Save some money up and go there with a wad of cash and comfortable walking sneakers. You will definitely find some awesome stuff to add to your collection!
      I live in NY- The winter shows here are COLD! 😃
