I didn't buy one yet, but totally agree with your points. I kind of panned it when I first saw it, but I think you're absolutely right - as it being a cinewhoop, it's designed for a cinewhoop application. And you have to have appropriate expectations for the use cases of your given tools. I have my Chimera 7 and Roma F5 and 7 for high-wind/rough conditions FPV, but I hadn't considered the up-close and personal type of use case. And I think you're also right about the cost compared to a DIY build. So I may end up getting one eventually after all.
I bought the Avata plus the FPV remote 2. On my third flight I flew through my door from outside, through my home and back out a window. I had no intention of buying this before I saw it last week. As a beginner FPV pilot, this is exactly what I expected and wished for.
Thank you for pointing out the 250$ action camera addition when comparing prices. Action cameras are pretty durable but usually it's been my most broken item other then motors. Luckily I didn't sell my DJI controller for 75$ before it was launched.
I think your points are valid. I have a cinelog 35 which is a little better at freestyle, and quieter but I got out of luck when my FC blew after 6 lipo's. With the avata it would be warranty. I put a quad in the sea when low level cruising. The Avata keeps great height and visibility is great. I have no issues with fogging but I warm the goggles before flight. Anti fog wipes would be useful also. I will get rid of my 5 inch, Cinelog and other quads except for my 3,5 inch ripper (sub250 with Go2) and my Recon35. I might consider another 5 or 7 inch quad with the new air unit if compatible with the goggles 2. The Avata fills a lot of my needs in a handy, durable and reliable package.
The voice of reason! I've seen so many videos that (maybe because it has Acro mode) diss the craft because it can't handle fast yaw turns or punch out like a 5". Exactly like you say this quad is meant to fly low and precisely and that's exactly what it does. I had a BetaFPV Pavo 25 that can not compare to the Avata simply because of the altitude control when in angle mode. Thank you for talking sense and seeing the Avata for exactly what it is.
You mention the fogging of the goggles. Have you considered diver's spit? Comes in a little bottle, squirt or spray type. Just a couple drops, rub it lightly in and you'll have no fogging.
Im a bit confused, I have seen Avata cinematic content in the dolomites and cliff diving and it looked fantastic. And I am stoked at the idea of doing that sort of thing here in NZ, and I justifies that price. If I was going to just fly at the local playground/ low level and close vicinity then analogue is good enough?

When dealing with whoops and dives, you must power out of the dive. Don't just pull up. If you just pull up/flat like you would with open props, you'll quite likely get the dreaded "yaw washout", and depending on what it felt like at the time, you might end up "on" that cliff.

Put a few .22 cartridges in there for bling and they really set it off nicely. 🤪 Btw I fly everything from micro whoops to 7". I enjoy them all and had a pretty good idea what the Avata was all about before buying, really enjoying it.
Been great following your journey with the Avata, you have really hit on a lot of good points concerning this drone. Mine should arrive in the next couple of days, looking forward to flying and enjoying it.
Thanks for the video! I’m a newbie droner. Just purchased a used Mavic air 2 about 3 weeks ago. Came complete with DJI bag 3 batteries, lenses, remote. I’ve got bitten by the rc bug now. Now I want a feeling of a FPV. The Avata seems like what i would like to begin with. I’m considering going directly thru DJI and purchasing a complete kit with 2 extra batteries. Think that’s a good choice??
Avata is fun, and useful camera tool - you demonstrate that so well. The noise is totally normal and fine, too! A lot of people just don't get the cinewhoop category. Oh, I don't have fogging, BUT I get light leak in the sides of my Goggles 2 on both sides... so I'm getting some ventilation. And, it has not been hot and muggy in Missouri where I am now that it's the first week of September. That's the only reason I assume that I haven't run into the fog issue... they really need to do something about that, wonder if they can crank the fan in there up with a firmware change? Don't know how much that would help given where it's apparently located...
THANK YOU !!! Finally, someone that gets this right. It's not louder, it has a different pitch. It's not meant for racing. Not really meant for freestyle either. And finally, the truth about the price. Anyone that purchased or built a cinewhoop, it requires the extra camera. so a lot of the time it's going to cost you more than the Avata. I absolutely love mine. And it's really helping learn FPV without the headache having to go thru iNav or BetaFlight confgurations and configuring your radio equipment. I never tried the motion controller before, and I am really liking it a lot for simple, relaxed flying. I have tried those bumpers, but I don't like that they are slightly in view of the camera. Thank you again for telling it like it is. I use the FPV Goggles V2 since I now have 2 of them. Goggles 2 are on the way, just to try them out.
Yep it’s all true. My only real gripes are the lack of FPV controller and the fact that they didn’t even include a cable to charge either controller within any of the packaging. That and the FPV controller couldn’t even connect to the Avata by default and needed updates. Over all as someone who’s never flown a cinewhoop but has flown diy 5”s and mavics I am impressed. Mostly because I flew analogue and the digital goggles are a significant upgrade lol.
Please could you elaborate a little more on why tha Avata is unstable at higher altitudes. Do you just mean smoothness of flying, and transitions of manoeuvres.
great info Ken i am mostly camera drone guy but couple years ago got into fpv had to learn how charge batteries and betaflight one i flew plenty was a whoop Pavo30 HD a pusher drone and ya never usually took it up over 100ft cause they are for more cinematic shots and not easy flyin manual really enjoyed Pavo but am getting Avata which i believe i will enjoy more and prob will end up tryin manual at some point great spot you have there nice footage
THanks! good points, I had all those in mind b4 buying. BUT: coming from phantoms / mavics / airs my biggest disappointment was signal reach. yes i m in CE territory and i did try an unlock which did increase range. but compared to all the other gps models it's still bad. not sure why. maybe the FCC hack didnt also switch to 2.4 and its still at 5.8...
Great vid. One thing I don’t like about it is that I crashed into a tree and it lifted up into the air and got stuck into the tree and flipped over and shut off. I’m still trying to find it in the tree. It’s like five Georgia trees merge together. Since it shut off none of the locating devices will work. Luckily I still have the video and kind a have idea of where it is. Still searching 🙏🏻
I'm sure I'll get one eventually. I have the goggles and remote already, but to me the true cost is $900, because I'd never buy a $600+ drone without a charger and extra batteries. I've really enjoyed all the comprehensive info you've done on this quad.
I agree price wise as a digital whoop, I think it is price competitive. My only complaint is I ordered the drone, with insurance and fly more kit and the controller 2 is out of stock, feel like DJI is trying to force us to purchase the single hand hand controller on you. I have a drone I cant fly until they resolve the issue,
Used it extensively inside in very confined conditions. Worked very well. ( as opposed to when I used the Mini 3 in the same conditions....CRASH ) With half the width of Mini 3 ( and the duct guards ) it goes from room to room quite easily. P.S. Don't forget to put the loss of controller signal to hover before you fly. ( luckily it happened in a low ceiling area )
Lol. Did the same with with my Mini 3 Pro. Used up those spare props first day of ownership 😂. Now that I've got both I feel like I've got a pretty sweet combo to do almost everything I'm interested in without breaking the bank.
Great info.. My avatar is arriving next week. I purchased the Pro View Combo. I'm wondering if it will arrive with the RC. I seen other unboxing videos saying it comes with the rc
Totally agree, and I’m alway amused when the first thing someone does with a whoop style drone is try to fly it like it’s a 5” and then use the fact that It doesn’t preform like one as ding against it 🤷♂️ . It’s great, I love it, the goggles are great too but eye adjustments are easily knocked out of place if you’re not really careful when handling them.

Love my avata, I'm getting better with it...I enjoy using the motion controller for high speed low drag, and normal controller for slower cinematic shots
Great video man. I've seen a couple videos about people complaining about features that the Avata doesn't have (Object tracking/master shots) and I think they miss the point of the drone entirely. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and have been loving it so far. It is the first drone I've really crashed an I can attest that the prop guards are pretty durable. I also love how DJI provides replacement parts and due to the "relatively" low cost or a RTF cinewhoop if it ends up getting trashed it really isn't the end of the world. I just wish they would make purchasing the motion controller optional.
Hi Ken, I avoid PhillyLife posts because I see a lot of flying I disagree with (to each their own). I mostly rely on your videos, Billy's and The Pilot Institute ones because I trust the content to be useful and honest. I watch others as well but not as much. Just wanted to say thank you for all the great information you provide!
Another good video Ken. I have the Avata but can't get out to fly it as the Motion Controller will not charge and can't get hold of the normal controller at the moment in the UK.
Here in Chile and other countries doesn't had any other option that buy the bundle with the motion controller.... till now. Just wait to see the Avata No RC option
lol i didnt realize til the very end of the video who you were, as i just purchased the ribbed riders from you on etsy a couple days ago. Hey quick question, what camera were you using to film your commentary / when you were walking? Great vid and i agree with just about all you covered.
Ken I think I’ve asked you this before and did not get a reply. How do you takeoff with that drone and be in manual mode from the get-go. I had the same issue when I had the potato. The only way to get it in the manual was to do the little thing you had to do like with centering in the sticks. I plan on ordering one as soon as I can find a controller as I already have the goggles I don’t need anything else. Thank you for all of your videos I learned so much every time
Great video. Not only the GPS pilots but also I've been seeing harsh and unfair criticism about Avata from some serious FPV pilots. I'm not sure whether the fact that Avata is plug n play with minimum effort makes them tick. Do they see Avata as a threat to their occupation or skills, not sure. But anyway, informative video.
Thank you for continuing to make videos and release content! Your channel is great. I agree that people are using the Avata in all kinds of ways it wasn't designed for. My question is, in the videos you share from the Avata, the field of view does not look as distorted (fisheye) compared to many others. Is that because you are shooting at a narrower field of view (normal vs. wide vs. ultra wide), or because the stabilization crops away the more distorted areas, or a combination of both? I can't seem to find a good video that shows how much quality hit you take when switching between modes, but I also don't like the curved ultra wide look I see in so many other videos. Thanks for any insight you can provide!
Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt this the first of its kind in the market? People should really understand what it's about first before expecting that it would have everything they'd want in their custom made fpvs. Thanks for clearing this up.
@OriginaldoBo love your vids Ken!! Thank you so much for these 💪. Question please! When you connected your phone to clear the geofencing, at what point can u disconnect your iPhone from the googles?
I agree, not using it for high altitude or as a chase plane at my local RC club, my orginal FPVs will continueto be used. But am planning to use the hell out of it for exploring and low altitude photography. My only complaint is the goggles, excellent display, but pinches my nose and it gets warm here in NW Florida. Excellent video!😎👍
i think because for the price people expect more. I waited for this to drop and decided with the FPV. If you want speed go for the FPV, for cinematic go with a Mavic. I dont really see where this product fits.
@@OriginaldoBo I'm new to the fpv world but it worked insanely good on my oculus. First FPV will be the Avata and I'm excited. Thanks for the knowledge man, it's been super helpful on making my choice
I.m in agreement with your assessment overall. A whoop is a different kind of drone, and the people who have not flown fpv and are not familiar with whoops would have some misconceptions about this drone. This little whoop has got it's place in the kit. My only complaint is the fogging issue with the goggles, as that's something that I hope DJI can do a better job of addressing, otherwise it's not too bad. Thumbs up there Ken in a fair assessment.
Good, I am definitely going to fly this, I’ve flown with v2’s and trust you opinion on these. Moving back to FPV for a while. GPS world is dull as crap.
You're correct on everything w the avata. It's sounds very different from a mavic pro , as far as height and battery life. Although I don't know much about whoops but u know more about it. So that being said, I'll probably wait till price drops by Christmas. Thank you for the info.🙂
Fly the minis with prop guards and you'll know how the Avata feels in the wind =p. It doesn't do well in higher winds, and neither would a mini with prop guards on. It's obviously noisier than a camera drone but sort of middling for an FPV drone for sure.
A hammer is fantastic at pounding nails but pretty garbage at screwing in a screw. Bought it because of your reviews and specifically because of your real estate fly through BTS. (I do real estate photography as well and you literally put money in my pocket! Absolutely love it and know that high altitude establishing shots are still for my Mavic and phantom. This gave me a tool for work and a wicked tool for recreation. New subscriber and fan
I really appreciate your non bias. So many pilots are DJI haters. But I disagree with motion controller. this is for indoor flights or close range outdoors. The motion controller is perfect for this.
I'm not sure "Calling out" philly drone life is the right terminology, he is simply giving his opinion , as are you, calling out suggests he is doing something wrong. Excellent low level and intricate flying, thanks for the video. 👍

Cant wait for more real estate avata content!
Ken did you fly it with the v2 googles , seeing some bad things about the new googles being unusable .
David to goggles are actually probably what I’ll be switching back to
Hi Ken, I avoid PhillyLife posts because I see a lot of flying I disagree with (to each their own). I mostly rely on your videos, Billy's and The Pilot Institute ones because I trust the content to be useful and honest. I watch others as well but not as much. Just wanted to say thank you for all the great information you provide!
Your Shade game is commendable brother......
All the avata talk is giving me the itch. Thanks for such real content though, makes my decision easy. Love the channel, cheers
Will this work with the V2 goggles and remote?
Is that the same park that ready set Drone was flying in
So similar
Perfect way to give the info you are the only person to fly this drone the way you should
I get it….I fly some other fpv drones such as geprc cinelog…I ordered my avata and I can’t wait to get this In hand waiting for it to ship!!!!
Another good video Ken. I have the Avata but can't get out to fly it as the Motion Controller will not charge and can't get hold of the normal controller at the moment in the UK.
Try using a USB-A to USB-C cable. I
Found that USB-C to USB-C cables don't work. Seems to like 5v 1A power only
Yeah I’ve had to do the same thing
@@BahDreadnought THIS IS THE ANSWER
Here in Chile and other countries doesn't had any other option that buy the bundle with the motion controller.... till now.
Just wait to see the Avata No RC option
Great review , finally someone compare it with a cinewhoop as it should be.👏👌
Thanks for the informative video about the Avata. Still thinking of getting one.
if you had to choose only 1 whoop for interior fly through FPV work today, which would it be ?
Shendrone Squirt that I built, I’m comfortable with it
Will stop button work on manual mode? If we loose video or RC signal in manual mode will it automatically change to normal mode and RTH?
Yes stop button puts it into a hover
lol i didnt realize til the very end of the video who you were, as i just purchased the ribbed riders from you on etsy a couple days ago. Hey quick question, what camera were you using to film your commentary / when you were walking? Great vid and i agree with just about all you covered.
Sony A7iv and the 17-28 Tamron lens
Ken I think I’ve asked you this before and did not get a reply. How do you takeoff with that drone and be in manual mode from the get-go. I had the same issue when I had the potato. The only way to get it in the manual was to do the little thing you had to do like with centering in the sticks. I plan on ordering one as soon as I can find a controller as I already have the goggles I don’t need anything else. Thank you for all of your videos I learned so much every time
I have it set on my switch to go manual first
Awesome update and review, you reconfirm every reason why I purchased this.
Awsome vid! Thnx for this. I want to get that bag and guards aswell. Can I get links pls🙏?
what happens if you get disconnected when you're under trees, will it try to rth and fly up into the trees since it has no obstacle avoidance?
I’m going to be cursing if I didn’t set it to hover
Great video. Not only the GPS pilots but also I've been seeing harsh and unfair criticism about Avata from some serious FPV pilots. I'm not sure whether the fact that Avata is plug n play with minimum effort makes them tick. Do they see Avata as a threat to their occupation or skills, not sure. But anyway, informative video.
@@ZabDevin i agree.
I totally agree with your assessment. I've embraced its indoor and low level performance. It's growing on me. But hate the goggles.
Nice video!! Please tell me in which mode you flew? P.S. I have ordered the Avata!!!
I just saw a video about upgrading the Avata motors with axisflying, are you going to test this?
Just ordered them, will be installing next week when they arrive
@@OriginaldoBo maybe you also above time to create a how to install. Thanks! :)
Do you think they will come out with a 5.4k version? Great drone! But I’m thinking they might pull a Air 2S on us.
did u find the stick eventually? i was wondering
Yes lol
did you tune your avata or are you just that smooth? and if you did change the rates could you share?
I did I changed my rates
What tilt you flying with in order to fly that slow at the trees?
10 degrees
@@OriginaldoBo thanks
Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt this the first of its kind in the market? People should really understand what it's about first before expecting that it would have everything they'd want in their custom made fpvs. Thanks for clearing this up.
Great video I am loving it, for some reason I never thought of taking a cinewoop up high. Your stick in the bag at least that where mine was.
The Avata seems like a great drone to me. If i would mention a con it would be the lightleaks and the discomfort wearing the new goggles.
Love it! I cant wait to get my hands on this bad boy!!!! Ya'll boys have fun in Vegas! Hit those tables homie haha!
If you fly in manual mode and put the acceleration stick all the way down will it just fall to the ground?
Yes
lol the ending, +1 for the motion controller
Lol did you find your stick???! 😅
@OriginaldoBo love your vids Ken!! Thank you so much for these 💪. Question please! When you connected your phone to clear the geofencing, at what point can u disconnect your iPhone from the googles?
Soon as it lets you clear the geofence from the goggle screen durning arming
@@OriginaldoBo thank you Ken! Looking forward to more contact and supporting your store.
Hey is Drone works shipping the stand alone Avata?
Not till next week
@@OriginaldoBo thanks, please put a link here so I can give you the credit for the sale.
i think because for the price people expect more. I waited for this to drop and decided with the FPV. If you want speed go for the FPV, for cinematic go with a Mavic. I dont really see where this product fits.
Oakley makes a great anti fog solution that works amazing!
Just ordered some going to give it a go
@@OriginaldoBo I'm new to the fpv world but it worked insanely good on my oculus. First FPV will be the Avata and I'm excited. Thanks for the knowledge man, it's been super helpful on making my choice
Nice video man we just ordered 2 of these. We are in central Florida. Where are you located?
I’m in Spring Hill
@@OriginaldoBo nice. Never been there but I work in Tampa and st Pete a lot. Just came across your channel. Good stuff man. Keep it up
I.m in agreement with your assessment overall.
How do you feel about the goggle vignetting?
Doesn’t bother me I’ve had worse on other aircrafts
Good, I am definitely going to fly this, I’ve flown with v2’s and trust you opinion on these. Moving back to FPV for a while. GPS world is dull as crap.
Great perspective on the Avata ken. 👊🏻
Would you ever go on vacation to Puerto Rico and take awesome vids with the avata and M3?
Damn Ken you let the cat out of the bag. Now your wife knows how much everyone of those little drones you have costs. 😁
Very thoughtful insight as always Ken....Thanks for the info and thoughts
Thanks Matt
@@OriginaldoBo Your welcome. We appreciate you and the blatant honesty
I really appreciate your non bias. So many pilots are DJI haters. But I disagree with motion controller. this is for indoor flights or close range outdoors. The motion controller is perfect for this.
I still wish DJI would make some goggle compatible with the Mini 3!
That’ll be nice but I think latency would be a big issue
PERFRCT REVIEW! NAILED IT
I'm not sure "Calling out" philly drone life is the right terminology, he is simply giving his opinion , as are you, calling out suggests he is doing something wrong.
Excellent low level and intricate flying, thanks for the video. 👍
Dude come on if he hasn't learned by now, he's not going to grow up don't be so quick to protect him.
So here’s my deal with Philly, I like Mike I do. However the definition of insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results.
