Not Canadian, but love the Rankins. The sisters have the voices of angels. Their version of Never Alone got me through losing my mom. RIP John Morris and Raylene. All my love and best wishes to Jimmy, Cookie, Heather, and all their family. Thank you.
Memories of my childhood. My Mom would always play the Rankins. Reminds me of home in Nova Scotia and summers at the Cottage in Lismore. It always amazes me the power of music to bring back memories. So Nostalgic. I'm living on the West Coast now but picture the beautiful coastlines of Cape Breton in the summer, its heaven on earth.
Yeah they drove you all nuts with envy to run you out so they can sell drugs and traffick your children. It's why your economy is gone. Hope you had a nice life on the west coast!
This was the first Rankin song I heard and it hooked me on their music forever. I'm sorry I never got to see them perform live. Their music is so uplifting, it could bring me out of the darkest funks. Still sounds as good today as it did in 1993.
Being from New Brunswick myself, we are all proud to be maritimers! The magic this group produced with their music captured the hearts of all Canadians. I am grieving along with every other Canadian over the death of Raylene. RIP Raylene. We love you.
My dad use to play this (had the cassette).. looked far and wide to try and remember this tune i had in my head for 15 years.. and i found it! Love from ontario!
I was raised on the Rankin Family and I only just rediscovered them... I was too young to remember who they were. It was the warmest feeling finding their music again.
I`ve already bought that disc five months ago and when I play it, it always travels me to the east canadian shore of Nova Scotia and especially Cape Breton and it`s beautiful landscapes. Greetings from Salonica, Greece my friends. 😉
I learned of the Rankin Family many years ago when visiting my sister and her husband in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia. I fell in love with the music of the Rankin's and have enjoyed their music ever since. I still have a written letter from their Mom from 1995 when I had written to them. RIP John Morris and I wish nothing but the best for the remaining family! Cheers!
sitting here at 1:30 am in the USA tearing up ...how I miss home so much ...God Canada is so different ...can't wait to move back .And the first thing im gonna do is head to Cap Breton for a huge ass lobster in Cheticamp
Listening to their music always makes me think of my dad who was, himself, a proud Cape Breton b'y. He was a musician, too. I'm sure he may be having some jam sessions up in Heaven with John Morris and Raylene.
This makes me proud to be Canadian period. My favorite bands are Pantera, Devildriver, Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Arch Enemy etc., and this gives me goosebumps like you wouldn't believe. Good music is good music and The Rankins deliver in spades.
My parents got me this album after their vacation to Canada. I think they were looking for Canadian country artists that were not well known in America. This is also the first time I was introduced to the Gaelic language and for a while I actually didn't know for sure what the name of the other language was.
I’m from Ontario but love Cape Breton and the Rankins, I’m getting married there to R. MacLeod he grew up inWreck Cove.Eventually I want to open a bed and breakfast on the Cabet Trail that’s my dream
I wish I could get this album on iTunes or anywhere on digital! It seems to be MIA...Also I would love to find the original music video for this, its so beautiful...I have lived in the USA for 20 years now, and its home, but damn, this makes me miss the good old north.
My Father Gerard use to tell me stories of when he lived with the Rankins. His Mom Catherine Rankin was related. John Archie and Angus Gillis whom I'm named after. I'm a musician as well after years of playing everybody else's Music now I only play original songs about Jesus.
I believe her name is Molly Rankin. She played fiddle with the family but now she has a band of her own called Alvvays. Totally different style but amazing in its own right!
I wish these cd's were cheaper, everywhere that has it em there like 30 bucks, and theres no way I'd download music I respect, so I guess it's youtube for now, therefore thanks for the upload
@jessietucker123 i agree, i loved this song and record, i used to hide my mom's copy of the tape, then play it in bed to help me sleep, i was 6 at the time, that was 10 years ago
Dad and me, vacationing in a trailer by a beach in Florida, 1995. These tunes always bring him, and those memories, back to me.
Not Canadian, but love the Rankins. The sisters have the voices of angels. Their version of Never Alone got me through losing my mom. RIP John Morris and Raylene. All my love and best wishes to Jimmy, Cookie, Heather, and all their family. Thank you.
Rise Again was a great comfort to me when my mom died.
Remember that they played this song on the radio here in norway in the mid 90,s. Love it!
Norway? That’s awesome. I’m from Cape Breton so it’s neat to know the reach of the Rankin Family!

Same with me, my mom introduced them to me. I also seen them live with my mom and sister.

This is one of my absolute favourite Canadian songs period!!!
Every time I hear a Rankin song it's like i'm a little kid again. Love it.
It takes me back to my pre teen and teenage years (circa 1990-1994)
This was the first Rankin song I heard and it hooked me on their music forever. I'm sorry I never got to see them perform live. Their music is so uplifting, it could bring me out of the darkest funks. Still sounds as good today as it did in 1993.
I saw them live. They were great. Maybe you will see them too some day.
This is litterally the band of my childhood, and I completely forgot about them until today. Man am I gonna be going down a long road of reminisce.
Being from New Brunswick myself, we are all proud to be maritimers!
The magic this group produced with their music captured the hearts of all Canadians. I am grieving along with every other Canadian over the death of Raylene.
RIP Raylene. We love you.
The Rankins remain the pride of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and our entire fair land of Canada.

@@dawsonedwards6585 John Morris died in a car accident in 2000 or 2001, and Raylene Rankin died of breast cancer in 2012.
I was raised on the Rankin Family and I only just rediscovered them... I was too young to remember who they were. It was the warmest feeling finding their music again.

I used to have this CD on constant rotation in my car... It is still a GREAT / classic road-travelling album! Thanks, Rankins.
The nostalgia is real. My mom used to listen to this album all the time when I was kid. It's pretty solid.
I love this song. I live in the north, and it is so close to my home. Lots of snow.

A top song from the Rankin Family. One of my all-time favourite!

A lot of good country musicians came from Nova Scotia. The Rankin Family, Hank Snow, Wilf Carter, and Stompin Tom from PEI
My Father Gerard use to tell me stories of when he lived with the Rankins. His Mom Catherine Rankin was related. John Archie and Angus Gillis whom I'm named after. I'm a musician as well after years of playing everybody else's Music now I only play original songs about Jesus.
Meeting all the Rankins backstage was great including the youngest one that plays violin.
I believe her name is Molly Rankin. She played fiddle with the family but now she has a band of her own called Alvvays. Totally different style but amazing in its own right!

I'm the exact same, came searching for the memories.
If East Germany had the Rankins we wouldn't have to have this inbred slapfest.
