Ohhh I miss that way of life, I'm a Fijian and I have been living in Europe for over 14yrs now. It's a simple way of life most definitely without money in Fiji I can still survive but in a western world it's kinda different story if you don't have any money just for a day just one day. I'm definitely going back home when I retire :-).

If you want to spend your entire life eating rice & tea, or cassava and tea and belle, then you need NO MONEY. But if you actually need to buy some supplies like sugar, milk, soap and other necessaries, which the villagers do, (trust me I have lived in Fiji), then everyone needs some money.Fijians have a big heart and always welcome a stranger to dinner even if they have very little. And Fijian's don't exercise because whatever you eat comes out of your body by end of the day, when you naturally sweat throughout the day. YES-weight control not a problem, unless of course you are consuming high calorie foods, and not sweating much!!

Depends on how you see it. Money wise, these people Lucy is experiencing life with is a normal simple life. You have a house that is free, food that is free and only needing money for other basics. If you want more money, you can sell your farm produce at large quantities but depends on the need and life ambitions.
