    Thank you. Two of mine need cleaning and it would have been nice to see you disassemble the handle side but this was good info for me to take the extra step and upgrade gears while I'm taking the time to clean them up.

    The little clip that holds the bearings in place is not called an e-clip. Per Shimano, it is called a “bearing retainer” (Shimano part #: 1054D).
    E-clips were used in older reels and were literally shaped like a curved capital E.

      @@stevethorntonfishing1360 Sure thing! I’m 62 and have been working on reels since I was about 15. Back then, my Dad and I used Abu Garcia 4500C’s. Those babies were absolute tanks! They used a couple of those e-clips at the top of the crankshaft. They, too, were bad about flying off in various directions. A little trick I learned was to put the reel inside a gallon sized Ziplock bag and work inside of it. If the clip flew off, at least it was contained!

    Is there a way to fix the slop in the reel? The hand seems to move in and out a bit and id like to see if there are parts i can upgrade to remove any play in it

      I've never heard of that, unless you aren't getting the 2 teeth on the center sleeve in the main gear properly when reassembling the reel. Other than that, I don't know.. You might call Shimano.

    Are all 3 bearing the same size?I feel like the 2 on spool are the same but is the one on the reel handle the same if not what size? Thank great video.

      Thanks Joe. So the Hawg Tech bearings are bigger, and are only for spool bearings. There is probably no need for a ceramic shaft bearing, since it has nothing to do with casting distance, and the stock bearing is very smooth when reeling.

    Is putting some oil on the tensioner bearing a part of normal maintenance?

    I have a brand new Curado DC and it gives a random grind noise/feel on reel in every once in awhile. I thought maybe the metal gears needed to be worn in but now I am not so sure. And does your have play when pulling the handle in and out?

    • @stevethorntonfishing1360
      @stevethorntonfishing1360  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have any play. It you have play on your main handle, tighten the nut that holds it in place.

    Hey I had to tear it down because my drive shaft got dethreaded so the handle nut wasn’t screwing on and staying it kept poping of now I got my new one from shimano and now I put it back together and the handle is spinning only backwards it’s not spinning forwards anymore idk why any thoughts?

    I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.

    • @harlo1622
      @harlo1622 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s not true, mine came loose and would backlash. Tightened it and set to the braid setting now I can cast without even touching it and won’t get a backlash at all.

    • @richardj6593
      @richardj6593 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@harlo1622 try getting a breeze kick up and try on braid setting. You will get some backlash. Also you have to use your thumb to drop the lure on a dime. You cant just sling it out and get proper distance without thumbing.

    • @harlo1622
      @harlo1622 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardj6593 I was just saying in general, like when you get talking and forget to thumb it lol I had 20lb braid never a problem. I’m sure if you try you could make it backlash but other than that it’s a perfect reel

    • @mac6417
      @mac6417 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true at all. You are supposed to tighten or loosen it until the spool doesn’t rock left and right. You are supposed to change it lmao. Different fishing styles need different amounts
