I always wondered how it was possible that England didn't have anyone other than Joe Hart to put in goal. I think I could name at least 15 Italian goalkeepers better than Joe Hart (and that was very clear when he joined Turin and ended up being one of the worst goalkeepers in the league). There must have been loads in England.

You have to remember Italy were actually behind in the shootout at this point, so Pirlo really needed balls of steel to pull that off. If he had missed it would have put Italy on the brink of elimination, but he scored and gave them the morale boost to go on and win
it gave confidence to the italian players ( and fans) and demoralized the english camp at the same time

I think Pirlo was ready to sacrifices himself here, one of his friend just missed a penalty, so he chooses to do this risky trick. If it succeed, it will bring some morale boosters for the team but if it doesn't, he will take all the blame for himself.
Old and wise Pirlo, he is the man that has nothing to lose and that's why he's the strongest player at that night.

I remember that during this shootout Hart was doing weird movements, laughing, showing his tongue...you know, probably trying to compensate for his lack of talent. And then there was this penalty: A clown vs a legend. Not surprised by the outcome

Everything about this penalty is just so cold blooded , the walk up, the tranquility when Hart starts moving around, the finish of course, but that look at the end, it's almost cinematic
