It's funny how when I was making my shitty wanna be FPS 2D platformer games as a kid I thought of this problem and did explosion traces on multiple parts of the character, but DooM didn't care and no one noticed. Probably saved on CPU processing on the old computers of the time since it didn't have to do 3 traces per character and only did 1.

this makes me want to see a map with that utilizes the blockmap rocket bug for strategic executions, maybe someone could make a puzzle/strategy based map/wad out of it if possible

I get that you're joking, but since I figure it's pretty obscure knowledge by now: The Doomguy's eyes turning gold when invincible (or more pertinently: after turning the God Mode cheat on) I believe is a reference to an episode of Star Trek (IIRC the original series) where a character's eyes turn gold after obtaining godlike powers. It's something I remember seeing in I think a video somewhere years ago, and basically nowhere since. Not even the Doom Wiki mentions this.
The line of sight check in doom is pretty advanced. In Descent, there is no check, and you take damage depending on the 3D-distance. This becomes a problem in Descent levels, there segments overlap, so you get killed from splash damage from the "4th dimension".
Great video as always, but I don't understand why none of the archviles in your example died? Your example shows that even the archviles takes blast damage. Is the sum of all the blast damage for the archvile next to the baron still not enough to kill it?
Archviles were further away from the blast, so they took less damage. Not 117 damage like baron, but maybe 50-70 at most (I'm judging by subtracting baron's width of 48). Even applied multiple times, it won't be enough to kill them.

No, blockmap bug is a collision geometry thing. This is about algorithm priorities in the engine.
The line of sight check in doom is pretty advanced. In Descent, there is no check, and you take damage depending on the 3D-distance. This becomes a problem in Descent levels, there segments overlap, so you get killed from splash damage from the "4th dimension".
