There are many boating channels on here, but this is one of the best because it is very specific and practical. It doesn't just offer airy generalities, like so many do. You take nothing for granted and take us through everything in detail. Great.
Hi, great video! Can you say something more about battery? Currently I’m using Apple Watch 9 with Waterspeed and it’s great, but the battery is draining rather fast when tracking, I doubt it would last a full day. I’m thinking about garmin but the solar option is out I’m afraid (thin wrists) and I was wondering how’s garmin compared to that.
No need for the solar option. Mine last 5-7 days, no problem. Even when it wants to do battery saver you've still got around 10hours full use. Beats the apple watch hands down.
can you upload and use detailed charts to the watch to use it in a boat without chart plotter? or are the charts always upstreamed from the chart plotter?
There are basic maps in the watch, not detailed marine charts. You'll still need the plotter. The watch really is an extension of the chart plotter rather than a replacement.
Can you tell if quatix can show training readiness status as fenix 7 do? Wanna upgrade to quatix from old fenix 5x just because of the look, but dont want to miss any new fenix features. Thanks for your review
Hi, the Quatix has all the features of the Fenix, including Training Readiness and hrv. Hope that helps. Brooke has just got the new Epix so she will be doing a video soon.
Hi Rudder Bought the watch and love it . Stuggling to change the windspeed on the m/s even tried to change to m/hr as there is no knots wind speed option. Also cannot figure out how to connect navionics from my tabler Really appreciate and help
Hi Gary, is this the windspeed when connects to your MFD? I don't have much experience with this. sorry. I know this is a cop out but give Garmin a call, they are usually super helpful. Sorry I don't have much else to offer.
Thanks for the video. The boat data and navigation etc... Do you need to have a garmin computer on your boat or will the watch work independently without any in-boat garmin device?
Hi, some of the features are indepent, like the anchor alarm and the fishing activity, but controlling the multifunction display and accessing boat data, you need to have other Garmin devices on your boat. Hope that helps.
Hi Rudder, can you provide some comments on the surfing, sup and sailing features please? Also, having avoided expensive garmins until now, is this THE one to buy for watersports activities? (sup, surfing, sailing, swimming) Thanks
Hi Mark, I'll do a follow-up vid. But I use this watch regularly for surfing. There is a new surf range from garmin that does have more features. For sup I think all the features are equal. For sailing there is nothing equal. I don't think many other watches with these features and there are always updates. Let you know when I post a review.
You certainly love your gadgets Damien! Lovely watch but as I use Garmin’s Active Captain, Fusion App and Savvy Navvy as back up on my iPad and my iPhone do not think I can make it an excuse to buy this watch ( lovely though it is)! Regards to you both and your lovely puppies !
There is a fishing activity built into the watch. One of the screens is a map, whilst on the map mode you can hit the activity button and bring up a menu, one of the options is to "Save Location" Once your watch is synced with Garmin Connect on your phone that information is downloaded in to your Garmin profile so you can get the location. Hope that makes sense.
Depends if you were thinking of buying a premium fitness watch, Garmin Fenix, Epix or instinct or even Apple watch then the added benefits of the boating apps might be useful (those that don't require Garmin hardware). If you are not looking at one of those then it is probably a bit much. But it is an excellent watch!!

Does it have morning report?
What is the name of the face you’re using? It’s very cool
It ships with the watch, unfortunately I have no idea. It is great though, it is the watch face I keep going back to.

Do you know if health data can be turned off?
sorry no idea, perhaps a quick search on garmin?
Hi Rudder.! Is this watch compatible with an iPhone 📱?
Yes use through the Garmin Connect app.
@@TheRudder Okay, I really appreciate to answer my question.! Thank you.!
What if you don’t have a garmin on your boat is this still the option you’d pick for a boater? Looking for my bf for Christmas. Thanks!
I really like Garmin watches. If you don't have Garmin or fusion I'd probably look to another model -epix??
Does it have a torch ?? 🔦
It does NOT but it should.

Thanks John. Hopefully winter is not being too brutal over there.
Nice painting behind you btw.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you
Is this a 47mm or 51mm?
47mm the solar version is 51mm and $500 more.
Did you just read my mind😂😂 researching this just hrs ago
Hahaha gotta always be looking for new tech toys!
Exactly 😂
How did you locate the Marine maps? I just bought my Sapphire version and no marine nor lake vue maps available.
I had Australia and NZ maps pre-loaded (Sapphire Version). I would suggest reaching out to Garmin they are usually super helpful.
Th,what'up.Thanks!you made amazing ~ 🤙
Cheers
How do you save a fishing spot instantly and then download it?
There is a fishing activity built into the watch. @@TheRudder Thank you for your prompt and informative reply! The answer was exactly was I was looking for!
I just buy this model quatix 7 for 2 unit.. now im just need to buy a boat.. 🤣🤣
Get a kayak!
Do you think it's worth buying it if we don't have Garmin devices on the boat?

@@TheRudder Thank you very much
I believe if you also have the Garmin Force Trolling motor, the watch can control that too - which is probably the only feature i'd use on the boat!
Good to know, thanks. The key feature I use is the connection to the Fusion stereo.
Wish this watch had solar!!!
Fingers crossed 🤞 next edition
Sorry there is a solar edition, it is 51mm and about $500AU more.
@@TheRudder sweet I must have missed it.. is it a Quatix or called something else?
