  • Hi Guys!
    We have had our Cannon for 14 months now, with the last 4 months travelling Australia full time. As we have now hit 25,000kms on the car and taken it through a range of different Australian terrain we thought it was time for an updated review video.
    Hopefully you find this helpful.

    Hey Guys. Had my Canon X for 4 months. Been great so far. When your in Sand Dont use Sport mode. The guy at Gwm said it can cause damage. You must Press & Hold the Traction control button for a few seconds & it will go into Cross Country Mode on your Dash. This is the same as 4H. Cheers

    • @griffinsgetaway
      @griffinsgetaway  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey mate, sports mode will not cause any damage. Sports mode just sharpens the throttle response and holds gears longer. Also cross country expert mode Is not 4H. These Ute's do not have 4H unless you get the XSR model. They are a torque on demand setup. Using a centre clutch to transfer torque between front and rear. I don't recommend using cross country expert mode at all to be honest. It doesn't even fully turn of traction controll, if you are in soft sand and it detects too much wheel spin engine will cut power still. You are better off just turning of traction controll and just putting it in sports mode. When it gets very boggy or steep then 4L is best.

    Two years on I cannot fault ours either. It's a shame so many people get put off by the false media and stories. Few mates have x240, v200 from 8-10 years ago and all are over 200,000 km with no issues. As for towing, I'm too light on the throttle, but towing isn't a big thing in many countries, including China, so perhaps they didn't really think of it. However, it's easy to add an extra leaf to the rear and if you tow 24/7 it's probably a good idea...

    Update on dealer. I moved to a new dealer in Melville. Autostrada were just really bad at their role. I found the new dealers service and care much much better.
    I still found GWM's response to my concerns less than expected, but from what I understand most manufacturers are poor in the warranty space. This seems to be an industry wide issue and will only change if there is much more customer pressure to do so. All in all I'm still happy with the vehicle of course, and any negative I have reported has nothing to do with the current operation of the Cannon X

    I own a Cannon X with 30000kms. I have always been a supporter of the brand until now.
    I went to the dealer Autostrada in Western Australia, for a service and had them look at a minor warranty issue for a delaminating park brake button, along with recalling for the headrests to be replaced. This work was booked in over a month prior to the service date.
    It’s been over a year and when going to book my 30000kms service I enquired again as the the park brake and it turn out that even though the dealer told me it was warranty and would be replaced they had not even ordered the part and not submitted a warranty claim to GWM/HAVAL. Not only this they did not replace the recall item on the headrests. When I approached GWM/HAVAL HQ I was told it’s my problem and they have nothing to do with it. So basically, your on your own.
    Ok so you might think this is a dealer/service department issue but can you imagine if this was a larger warranty issue and this was the support you expect to receive. I was going to look at a new vehicle next year and I can be sure GWM/HAVAL are off the list. Warranty support is critical to me and this seals the deal. Thanks for no support GWM/HAVAL, if warranty is important to you seriously consider other brands, as GWM/HAVAL do not provide customer support.

      That is my biggest concern with my Cannon X, it is a month old and I am still waiting for the sports bar to be re fitted by the dealer after they installed a electric slide canopy, it has been well over four weeks now as they had the vehicle three weeks prior to delivery fitting the 8K worth of accessories to it .............I'm still waiting.
      If this is the kind of service I am going to experience from GWM from here on in I will take it elsewhere.

      @@griffinsgetaway Hi, still watching your videos, I actually ended up lucking out big time with my Cannon, I only ordered a base model as I did not want to "over" spend but after watching a lot of videos was beginning to regret a little bit,. I did ask for some specifics however which was why I had a long wait etc,
      When I arrived to pick up I noticed that their appeared to be roof racks and possibly a roll bar under the covering. Apparently to fill my order GWM supplied a Cannon L made to the N.Z. specs so got $6,000 - $7,000 I was not expecting and for no extra cost, over the moon at the moment.

    • @Cold_Cow0
      @Cold_Cow0 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stuartprior6178 is it worth going up to the cannon L? I’m definitely looking at a GWM Ute and are tossing up between the base Cannon and the L, what’s your thoughts?

    • @stuartprior6178
      @stuartprior6178 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Cold_Cow0 I ordered the 2 wheel drive base model and during the 3 - 4 month wait I type of regretted not going to the L for mainly cosmetic appearance and extras. When I got there the Ute was under a sheet with big bow etc. and after signing some papers I was waiting with my son and I said that looks look like it has roof racks.
      The salesman came over and said that isn't all its got. GWM rather than break into their normal production run to make a red two wheel base drive sent me a Red Cannon L made to the New Zealand specifications. When the dealer ship first saw it they were worried that the wrong car had been sent, (in a way it had) as well, so I ended up with a L for the price of a base model so got $6,000 - $7,000 extra upgrade for the price of a base. I was happy as a pig in mud.
      The L is a lot fancier looking and has a lot more electronics extras which is nice but the thing I enjoy and use most is the step on the back gate. I really love the car but would not have paid more but for a freebie I am very happy. But as mentioned I could live without most of the things I got but that manual drop down step is fantastic for me at 63 LoL and my son at 40 appreciates it to.
      If I trade back in I need to mention that it is a Cannon L manufactured to the NZ Specification

    cheers for sharing your 25k review :))… we have been fortunate to acquire a new cannon about 2 weeks ago …wading through water that high, is okay without diff breathers?…also how do u go without being able to turn of steering assist permanently?…or is there a way around that? …

    • @griffinsgetaway
      @griffinsgetaway  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Hamish, yes ideally would recommend getting extended diff breathers. I dunno why they don't make them higher up from factory to be honest. Steering assist can't be turned off permanently as its a safety rating thing, needs to turn on every time you start the car for them to get the 5 star rating. So u just need to turn it off every time unfortunately, I just leave mine on as I am used to it now so it doesn't bother me really. Cheers mate
