  • Chinese diesel heaters can be installed at 90゚ on their side providing the Ignition glow plug is at the top. How to check if yours is the correct way up.

VW install the factory diesel heater under a T5 on its side. As long as the fuel inlet is at the top. I've installed one on a T5 in this orientation myself. Perfectly acceptable 👍🏼

I'm trying to build a fully self contained unit in an apache case.
If wanted a 2 kw and there aren't any all in ones for that size
All the builds I have seen take up all the room with the unit and ductwork
Simply turning the heater on it's side I can easily fit a good size tank inside

thanks for the info..was wondering this myself... afraid you got the intake it too close to that board.. It's going to be hard for it to breath i would think if its that close

Wasn't finished installing at this point. The beam was cut out the way. But 3cm clearance should be adequate if space is tight

And how long has it been running on its side, any issues? I am in the same boat, just curious.

Fully installed..plumbed in and wired . Running very nicely for three months.. no problems. ☺️

Why do you have the air intake against that wall stud? how is it going to get air? I would mount it at the same angle but away from the wall so the intake could get air. You can always just make an aluminum box to extend the exit hoses.

Loads of room. Air still gets in easily around it. It's not a problem. Seen intakes on many machines..cars. bikes. With alot less space.
      Proof is... It's working great

Would be nice to see how it actually works in this position!

Finished the installation. Works just fine.. no issues. 3 months running most days. For four to five hours.

I think a better install would have been to cut a 10" x 10" hole through the wood wall and cover the hole with sheet metal or an old road sign. Cut holes in that metal for the combustion inlet and exhaust hoses to tightly fit through to the outside. Then, another (larger) sign or sheet metal mounted to the studs with the same holes for the hoses plus holes for the mounting bolts to allow you to mount the heater to that sign/metal. This would isolate/insulate the heater from the wood as well as get rid of the obstruction to the airflow and especially to avoid having to cut your studs. If that base is mounted directly to the OSB wall panel, it is a fire hazard and WILL eventually catch fire IMO.

Possibly you haven't seen the specially designed turret that is fitted. It's design allows for firm tight fitting of exhaust and air filter and fuel pipe. Cutting a 10-in hole would be unnecessary. There is no restriction to the air flow .. no studs needed cutting. No adverse heat to the OSB. You can actually touch it with your hand. If it was that hot it would melt the plastic before the wood got hot. The installation is quite sound and operates well within safety limits. I did a lot of research before installing.
This is a diesel heater not a wood burner. It doesn't need those sorts of clearances. Only the exhaust gets hot and it's isolated in the turret as per manufacturer specs.
Hope that covers your concerns. 😉😁
