- Today on Unity Motorsports Garage we head to @EdelbrockTV to get a behind the scene look at the VRS-4150 and How it's Made!
Ever since the VRS-4150 came out I wanted to get my hands on these carbs and when I got the call to come and check out how they are made my Brother @bluecollarcook and I took a day trip to Sanford NC to see the Carb factory in action!

I love this video. For so many reasons. The education. Seeing behind the scenes. “Meeting”the people. Seeing how it’s done. That pride that creeps up in you when you realize that’s a real live American building that carb with passion, skill and care right here, just for you! I know for a fact this man just buried himself in carburetor builds. For life. I want him building the next carb on the 70 Poncho for sure.
William was a class act! He knows his stuff for sure. I felt that pride as well during the visit. We both joked and said if we lived closer we would fill out an application. Everyone seemed to enjoy and take pride in what they were doing.
We know William is special. I’ve watched several of the pros pick that carb apart. They say it’s engineered to the max and, no one has found fault in workmanship that I know of. They just rave about them. William is a technical bada$$. Just when Holley is pulling the plug on Carbs entirely, here comes Eldelbrock and William. “It’s cool. America is due for an upgrade!” 😂
That new carb makes some serious power edlebrock really did there homework
We will see how they stack up! It's going to be interesting to get them to the Drag Strip

This is probably the most exciting new hot rod product I've seen released in the last couple years and this video is steak for the gear head appetite. Keep it up!
I know right! Thanks for the kind words and for watching
Andy
I don't mind having 750 4150 Edelbrock on my Pontiac 400
13:33 Annular boosters. Nice!
They are nice!
Andy
I would like to see a dyno comparison with a comparable Holley and the new VRS-4150 and see the performance differences.
Ask and you shall receive! Stay Tuned I have many tests lined up
Andy
If them VRS carbies don't win , I will eat one!!!
I just ordered one to put on my 68 Thunderbird with 429 thunderjet
Nice!
I have made my mind up before Christmas to purchase at least one VRS4150 for my build. This was before I have seen any behind the scenes video on where it is don and how. Thanks Andy for posting this. THUMBS UP..
I've seen many vids talking about them and a few shots of inside the plant but not a full build type of video.
Let me know how it works out for you. Im going to put them through the paces with CASPER
Andy
I hope you got 2 of them to go on Casper. These seem to be state of the art for carbs.
You will definitely be seeing a pair on CASPER... In fact the two that were built in the Video!
Thanks for watching
Andy
Andy!!!! Thank you! That was great. That looks really good when he put it on the test table and watched it work was wow. What size is that a 750? Man did it pull the fuel. The spray was so even. I got to see it again. When I get one I hope he’s the guy that built it! Great to see a guy wanting to do his job right. This was a really great idea and video from you. Now I really want to see how they run on your motor. You going to put it on a Dyno?
That's some serious quality control right there. Very nice carb.
@15:15, there's a step I missed! Had to do it the hard way, on the motor. :-)
What a fun feild trip!
It really was... The folks there treated me like family and I could tell they really take pride in their work
Thanks for watching

Kudos to edelbrock for keeping as much as possible US built. And Im not even an american.
Thanks! It is pretty awesome to see a great carb made here right in the USA and I can't to see how they perform at the track
Andy
Thanks Andy for the tour and also all you and edle Brock thank you very much that was a very interesting video how things are put together there quality control by one man
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it... Edelbrock has put many safeguards in place to keep Quality top notch

Cool tour ⛽️✊🏼
Pure Gold Andy, Thankyou. They are a sweet Carby. I wish they would make a vac secondarys version.
Thanks for the Kind words! I doubt that would happen as they offer the AVS2 which is a great carb

Vic's Edelbrock factory.
Pretty awesome place!
There is almost no vids on here that show people tuning or using this carb yet can’t wait to see you tune it Andy
Yeah we are going to fix that! Because I'm wanting to see how they run at the track
Andy
I've got a 750 here on the shelf for my Mopar 383. Thank you William!
That is awesome! William is the guy who put it together.
Andy
I was thinking about getting one for my 383 mopar 4 speed car. Have you tried it out yet? If so how do you like it? I'm ready to pull the trigger on a carb soon.
I installed one on a roller cammed 350 chevy, it was close right out of the box, I haven’t fine tuned it yet, but totally drivable out of the box.
That is awesome news..
Thanks for watching!
Andy
Id like to try a pair of those on my tunnel ram. Looks like you can fine tune those bad boys perfectly. Thanks for the look inside
Steven, I will let you know what I find out once I get them on MIXED UP BOSS. I can tell you that the specs on the IDF's are the same as mine and the emulsion bleeds are close as well. with that being said I believe they will be scary close to perfect out of the box other than the PVCR's but I wont know until I try them as is..
Andy
First time seeing the VRS carb. Looks good. I came over here after watching the Q-jet vs VRS dyno. Great tour and thanks for highlighting the builders and their names. They deserve it.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! You are exactly right the people behind the VRS is the real story
Thanks for watching
Andy
I loved the video. Edelbrock products are top notch, and are US made and they are focused on providing quality parts worth us spending our hard-earned money on. Going to an offshore producer for their products would have been more profitable but they would not have had the control of the quality like they do by making the products here in the USA.
I agree 💯 and the amount of Pride those folks take in their work speaks volumes!
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Andy
Original first, well done.😎👍
Very, very cool guys. Thank you Edelbrock. I'm bolting a 4.0L Jeep Edelbrock aluminum cylinder head on a rebuilt short block today!! Whoop whoop!!
That is awesome! It would be interesting to see how that head does..

@UnityMotorSportsGarage is just a stock cylinder head that has a refined combustion chamber but is made of that beautiful aluminum. No more all iron exhaust smell!!! It is a very nice piece. Thanks, Edelbrock!!!!
Those are truly good looking carbs and obviously a very high quality product. I wish I was still at the shop every and not retired, I'd love a chance too tune with these baby's!

I agree, Andy... the quality of the castings and machine work is beautiful. Just what you wanna see in a carburetor. I really want one now!
I can honestly say the castings are better than I have ever seen on Any Holley or variant
Andy
Wow Andy, you excelled your self with that vid. I just bought 3 of them. Two 650's for my 4" stroke CHI 4V Clevland. And an 830 or 850 for single 4 barrel use. Man, who said carbies are dead?! Yous all can punch your efi, with high pressure lines, returns to the tank and tank mounted fuel pumps. Mechanical pump and a tunnel rammed Clevland. Cheers.

Thank you for giving us a tour. Nice to see a mix of old and new technology in mfg getting the job done. That old flow bench from carter is an antique and still doing work. Nice to see torque arms and dc tools to aid w the assembly. I hope the product does well
The best technology they have is the people. They are more concerned about quality rather than quantity.
@@bluecollarcook yes and those tools and torque arms and fixtures protect the workers from ergonomic injuries. Whether your doing high or low volume nobody wants a shooter to come loose and go down the manifold. Or external leaks
You are right. being in the Manufacturing world for 26 years those things you talk about is what I noticed first and like my brother said the People make the difference
Andy
My dad has been working on and has modified so many Holleys, re machining the poorly cast bodies so they actually are the same size and shape just like the ebelbrock nice to see a quality product with great machining. I can not wait to show him the video showing the machined bodies and venturies. He has a made a special fixture to mount Holley carbs and re machine them for bearings for the throttle shafts and re machine all the gasket and mating surfaces as they are never flat and have a poor surface finish. Good on you edelbrock ps my dad has a pro ram II in the original box waiting for a project. Dad says tunnel rams are worth 40hp and 30ft of torque you can not do better on Na application . 😊
Wow on the numbers but really that is no real surprise.
Really like the fact that the vrs doesn’t have a seperation between the throttle body and main body…
DUDE! Most excellent surprise video. I love it!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! More to come
Andy
Seems like a good solid piece with quality way above what holley has been putting out in the past 20 years.
Its nice they have went to a conventional 4150
I agree!
Andy
That is very cool that only one guy builds each one !
I agree! And William is passionate about what he does.. that makes a huge difference to me
Andy
Super interesting even for someone who has limited automotive skills
Thanks for watching Doug! I'm glad you enjoyed it

Nice looking carbs....
They really are.. I can't wait to see how they run at the track!
Andy
Thanks - the VRS has been on my wish list. There are alot of well thought out features. Can't always pack everything in one video, but air bleeds & metering blocks are worth some discussion? Its sometimes hard to tell innovation from just needing to do something a little differently to observe intellectual property.
once I have them in my hand we will do a breakdown of the blocks and what makes them tick!
Thanks for watching
Andy
So I picked one of those up a couple weeks ago. I’ve heard a lot about. Soon I’m gonna be doing real world testing on one of them VS a Holley back to back on the same vehicle and see what they really do. I’m a Holley guy but I’m open minded to see how it preforms back to back, with nothing but a carb swap.
That is awesome! I will be curious and following along. I'm going to do the same on CASPER! Let me know when you hit the track

Andy, did you hear when, and "IF" they were going to release a Methanol "Friendly" version of that Carb? I'm starting to run out of my Barry Grant hoard, and they are getting harder to find for sale anymore. Thanks.
I do know that other versions are coming but I don't know what and when.. I would go out on a limb and say E85 to start but that is just a guess

Great video Andy! Impressive quality on the parts and the one man assembly is outstanding. The only problem is that I want one of these carbs now!
Hey I'm with you.. I've been wanting one ever since I heard about them. We will now see just how well they run!
Andy
I can see why these carburetors cost $800.00
They have so many quality checks put in place it's unreal and I really like the fact it's one person (for now) that builds all of the VRS carbs. I'm sure that will change as production increases but from my understanding it will still be contained to that one room.
Andy
Would have been a much shorter video if work was being done by a young Chinese girl .😮
Bro, try paying in the shit called $AU. But I don't did care! Cheers.
Great video. Thanks Andy!

Since Vic Jr. passed, Ive been seeing YT comments saying the quality of Edelbrock's CYLINDER HEAD castings and components have gone to hell. CLEARLY, the same cannot be said for these carbs!
I agree I have seen the same comments but the commitment to quality was really impressive. I say that because I'm a Quality Inspector in my regular Day job building Freightliner Trucks.

Would be interested in a double barrel DMTR like injection throttle body. Wonder who these make.
Great video Andy! Did they say where those cast pieces come from? I would guess they come from the Edelbrock foundry/casting facility here in Hemet, California which is about 45 minutes from me.

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage looking forward to it for sure
Hello Andy, great video. Thank you to you and the Edelbrock facility. Did they say what liquid they are using in the wet flow test? Do they record a/f ratio for several air flow rates WOT and other throttle settings?
Anything to do with Holley is bittersweet to me these days because of what they did to Hillborn. They had no GodDamned right... Also Edelbrock usedthere was a market to be local, Torrence/Rancho Dominguez CA
I cant blame them for moving out of CA but shutting down an iconic entity like that is unforgivable. The sprint car isnt going anywhere so there is a market.
This carb looks superior to any 4150 ive ever seen.
I like edelbrock products and it's always nice to see new parts engineered. Am I the only one who thinks the holley carburetor design is one of the poorer designs to copy?
Maybe!
👍
They are definitely handmade
Yup! every step of the way

Edel wont do international orders online, which annoyed me but Summit sent them to me in a few days. Yet to arrive but what a beautiful piece of human thought!!
Cool! :)
I'm very much considering one of these 750s for my chevy 383, seems hard to find a 750 annular carb with better price and tuneability.
Are those boosters what you would call "downleg annular" ?
Can you tell us what the flow numbers on the 750 were?
based off the booster location I would call a straight leg annular. the main body is taller and that gives the appearance its as a downleg. On the Flow numbers It was dead on which is not normal for a Annular booster 750 due to the booster size.
hope that helps
Andy
Thanks! Is that 750CFM dry flow or wet flow?
@@BLASTbeetSWE Wet flow

VRS vs. your Doms vs. your old re worked 1850's .
sounds like you are in my head... lol

Lot of Quality Control built into their assemblies, insures a low return rate. Ounce of prevention... equals a pound of cure.
It blew my mind that they were more concerned about quality rather than quantity. I asked what their product number was and they looked at me funny. It is nice to be given the time to complete the task at hand without having to worry about shoving it on down the line.
That will preach..
Andy, how many parts are interchangeable, with holley?
It appears... that the jets are and maybe bowl gaskets. I know that the bleeds are common thread size but until I do a deep dive in them and learn them for myself I cant say 100%. Stay tuned!
Andy
Are you going to run a pair of these on Casper if they come out with the right size?
You know it! they already have the right size 750..
