- Why did Ulf the White fly to King's Landing, and why did Silverwing claim him? One of the questions that will be most talked about in the coming days is why dragons choose their riders - is it the will of the gods, lineage, or perhaps dark magic? Or is this drunk truly Daemon's brother? The story of the Dragonseed has called into question the idea that only the Targaryen can control the dragons, and perhaps in Ulf's story we can find the truth behind this secret.
Are the dragons really in the wrong hands now? In this video, we will analyze the reason why Silverwing claimed Ulf and why he flew to King's Landing.

Ulf and Hugh had valyrian blood.
Vermathore chose Hugh because vermathore respected Hugh for standing up to him, Hughs strength in character made him worthy in vermathores eyes.
Ulf show deference to silverwing, accepting his fate and symbolically surrendering to silverwing.
Silverwing reciprocated and surrendered to ulf in response. ❤
To claim a dragon you must be ready to die. If a rider is willing to accept death the dragon will bond with the rider. If you cling to life and try to run the dragon attacks. This has been shown several times in this show. In the books the targaryens were freaking out when eggs were stolen knowing that when the eggs hatched the truth of who could bond with dragons would be exposed.

Seasmoke was cirling over a beach adam was on earlier in the season.
Seasmoke was compelled to accept a new rider by the tamers but he found the kingsgaurd unworthy so he chose to serve Adam and went looking for him.

I think they are setting Ulf up to do what Hugh does in the books, mostly because of his stories claiming to be a brother to Daemon and Jahaerys. It’s like them foreshadowing, plus he will have the support of small folk as he is one of them.

He is also the grandchild of Vermithors last rider. Basically the dragons picked their last riders grandchildren.

Ulf is the grandchild of silverwings first rider, and she is known to be docile. She chose him cause she could smell the blood of her first rider.
that is not true, in the book his parentage is not known. In the show he boasts about howse bastard he is.

the first rider of silverwing is queen alysanne she and king jaehaerys have 13 children and some of those kids don't have position in the castle so when they grow up their past time roaming around outside they even went to pleasure house so guess what they fck the whores there and the story of Targaryen bastard came out of them is ulf. Basically silver wing smell her first riders blood in ulf.

Her compassion and love for the people are a performance. A means to attain the crown. She just sacrificed a group of dragon seeds in order to gain two dragon riders. She doesn’t care about the people unless they can be useful to her.

She tried to get Sir Darklyn to claim Seasmoke. If the “sacrifices” theory is in play, then his sacrifice led to Addam being claimed.

I’d be bending the knee to Rhaenyra, because the only pot the greens have to piss in, is a mother who misunderstood the words shared by a dying man, who thought he was finishing a conversation with someone else. Viserys was so delirious in his death throes, that his perception of time was all jumbled, and so the Greens position is comprised entirely of jumbled perceptions, and confusion.

I think Ulf’s Targyrean background is true, though I can understand how he might doubt it deep down. Though I think the dragons MIGHT sense Targyrean (or perhaps even Valyrean) blood if strong enough, I think different dragons have different personalities. Hugh’s dragon required and responded to a stance/show of bravery; Ulf’s responded to an act/posture of submission/supplication.

There is a subtle hint in GOT too when the second dragon let's Jon ride him after the dragon smells his hand, and then in the battle at winterfell he rides it again.... So the theory that dragons do have a sense of who could ride them especially of the valyrian Lineage does sound plausible...

silverwing was known to be friendly to humans and vermithor was known to be cross hence the name bronze fury. honestly i got chills when he appeared and i dont really consider vhagar scarey but the noises and expressions on him made him seem way more bad ass.
I agree and really liked their dynamics with each rider.
Vermithor: "hey hey an all you can eat buffet";
Silverwing: "Yay you will do".
I got the impression that Vermithor chose Hugh because of his bravery. He was the only person that stood up to that dragon, therefore gaining his respect and loyalty.
I think it's pretty obvious that Rhaeynera sent Silverwing and Ulf to Kings Landing to lure Aemond and Vhagar to Dragonstone to ambush them. When Ulf and Silverwing arrived back at Dragonstone, Rhaenerya and all her dragons are ready for Aemond and Vhagar. If Ulf and Silverwing had gone to Kings Landing on their own for other reasons, they would have returned to Dragonstone and had nobody waiting on them most likely or if Rhaenerya had seen them, she probably would have been mad as heck at him for doing that without permission

Ulf did not step in an actual egg. He stepped on the egg clutch missing any eggs.
To claim a dragon you need Targaryen blood but you also need something more. Just as rider chooses a dragon, the dragon must also choose the rider. Their spirit or the personality must also be compatible with each other. That's why Meleys refused Daemon and chose Rhaenys. He wasn't her type, so to speak. Now look at Caraxes and Daemon, you can't ask for a more compatible couple. Here's what I think that each dragon expects from the rider.
Caraxes - Brutal, Cunning and Impulsive
Meleys - Fierce, fiery and noble
Seasmoke - Loyal, restless and aspiring
Silverwing - Gentle, vulnerable and naive
Vermithor - Brave, angry and ambitious
Vhagar - Ruthless, vengeful and clever
and sunfyre?

It was SO SWEET his Silver Wing poked fun at Aulf! I loved this episode so much. Last week was just boring and confusing.
The whole season was boring.
I think Ulf was told the story about being of royal blood, perhaps by his mom, but never believed it himself. He used it to get small folk favor though. In the end, it turned out to be true. But I also think the blood ritual was a thing that helped calm the dragons. Silverwing calmed Way too quickly.
However, I think the sacrifice was something to do with the black goat religion. It seems like every time a Targarian does it, it's the start of their doom.
Seems to me that when the dragons claim dragon seeds...they choose those closest in relation to their previous owners - Seasmoke choose his previous owners Leynor Valeryon's half brother Alyn of Hull. Vermithor choose Hugh who's mother seems to have been Viserys and Daemons sister - making Hugh a cousin of Vermithor's previous owner and the same for Ulf - he was a also a cousin of Silverwings previous owner ..l think
No Hugh’s mother was implied to be Saerra Targereyan. The daughter of Jaeherys. So Hugh is Jaeherys grandson. Also in the book, it was said that one of Saerra’s sons looked a lot like Jaeherys.

@@ADvilll Like for real we need a Priestess of the Red God present in this timeline for real. The kind of powers she’d be able to pull out of her ass would be terrifying. Shadow demon babies, flaming swords, flaming Valyrian steel armor, enhanced strength added to burnt appendages, raising the dead, she might even be able to use dragon blood from the exposed wound of a dragon.
Rhaenyra is the rightful queen. She's fierce but gentle. She knows what needs to be done and steps back to let others take care of things when all she wants is to do it herself. That's what makes a good ruler

Ulf conversation in the Inn must have been true, he must be Daemons 1/2 brother, Rhaenyra did what she had to do and was the 1st real rulers decision she's made all season she did show she cared about the people killed but told them the truth that they could be killed, Ulf has always stated he is with Queen Rhaenyras side so I don't think he's going to be a problem the other guy is who I don't trust, Ulf can finally put his demonds away
I would have loved to see Rhaenys as queen, but if I had to choose between Aegon or Rhaenyra, I would choose Rhaenyra. Aegon would only serve as a drunken puppet, whereas Rhaenyra would have more sense of agency and will and overall leadership. She also understands the importance of the Song of Ice and Fire. She’s definitely far from perfect since she’s done a lot of selfish things that benefited herself, but out of her and Aegon, she’s the one with a better capacity for leadership. Plus, she has a lot of good people on her side like Jace and Corlys that could serve as givers of good counsel for her. Plus, it also helps that she is actually interested in being queen, unlike Aegon who didn’t want to be king all his life.
Of course, this is all theoretically. Most of us already know how this story would end…

Rhaenyra and the others were on the waiting for Aemond and Vaegar to show up and have him see how powerful she stands now with her new dragon riders etc as last warning to surrender or showcase strength… which is why Aemond will now ask his sister Helenna to bring her Dragon to the picture to somehow confront his disadvantage 🤷🏻♂️
She sent Silverwing because she's faster and didn't want to show off Vermithor yet. If she was smart since she had 6 dragons at Dragonstone was to surprise Vhagar and Aemond from the air. They would of easily killed them both and ended the war. Vermithor himself could take Vhagar out. She may have lost 2 of the smaller dragons but would of won the battle
When we see Ulf over Kings Landing, does anyone at Dragonstone even know that he has bonded with Silverwing at that point?

Ulf as a character is a classic literary device...the jester that provides a release.Yes, He is of Targarean blood.duh. The irony is that the reader/viewer of HoD is the introduction setting in a tavern playing a jester with a story to gain drinks.Very Shakespeare. Beautifully cast btw with Tom Bennett playing Ulf with florish and then providing behind the scenes guidance from an actor's pov. Personally, I would like to see Tom Glen-Carney who plays the King and Tom Bennett do a mini press kit on dragon riding.
I was under the impression that ulf wasnt really in control of silverwing yet and was literally hanging on for dear life
3 new dragons for the Blacks that would have won the war. It's a shame the 2 new Dragon seeds defected to the greens it only got them, and the dragons killed, and Adam was very loyal to Rhaenyra, and she never saw it she believed gossip instead of believing in him... War makes leaders unravel in this Dance of the Dragons

I think it's what this video revealed - that the blood magic of the sacrifices guru'd Vermithor and Silverwing into choosing riders who are not at all Targaryans. This is the most dramatic choice; it leads us into believing Rhaenyra's forces are dominant, when that magic can wear off at any minute and then all hell will break loose.
Well made... Definitely helped me wrap my head around some of the issues I had with Episode 7!
Given that both Hugh and Ulf are the same generation as Visery and Daemon and the unclaimed dragons didn't want any of the "noble born" riders, I say it's the blood they sensed. On rewatch Verm seems to consider Ulf but passes him over and seems to be looking for Hugh. He doesn't kill Ulf but just knocks him down. Then when he get a good full on look/smell of Hugh down on the ground he doesn't resist. Same with Ulf later one.
I bow to the true Queen Rhaenyra. She is strong and brave. She would fight for her throne without hesitation. She shows love for her supporters and is a dedicated mother to her children and her dragon
Blood sacrifice ritual or not, let's consider how absolutely desperate Rhaenyra was for dragon riders. She had to do something.

The person I’m bending the knee to is the Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen because from the very first episodes from Season 2 she tried to have a more peaceful approach to the existing conflict between the two factions: Reds and Greens
It actually makes sense. And jaces speech to his mom kinda forshadows that ulf may not be of a noble line but a dragon will make it so

Rhaenyra, although she did not care to sit the throne, once she was told the prophecy of Aegon The Conqueror and the price that was promised, she understood the sacrifice and accepted the responsibility to save the realm. She is the rightful ruler. I am team Black!
Queen Rhaenyra seems the most level headed. Though I think I saw a hint of crazy at the end of the last episode so who knows if she will be the best going forward.
Hugh the hammer stole the show!!!! I love that Ulf is kind of bumbling and light hearted. I hope they do them both justice. That episode was terrific

I pledge fealty to Queen Rhaenyra - the one true heir to King Viserys whom he expressly and publicly announced. Also, Rhaenyra as a person is worthy to be queen, as she possesses qualities and virtues of a true leader.
Ulf didn't have any choice in flying to King's Landing, the dragon took him there. Also, Ulf has no way to lie about his origins because he doesn't know. He never met his father and only heard what his mother told him.
If Ulf really is Daemon and Jaeherys bastard brother, then he may actually be able to contest the throne, possibly even supersede Daemons claims if he is older. And he’s been gaining favor amongst the small folk his whole life, they know him, he’s one of them. The downtrodden love underdog stories and would probably even fight for him

About ulf and hugh vermathor and silverwing i have no disagreement i just want to add--------with the closeness of vermathor and silver wing i believe silverwing and vermathor wanted to be riden together like the lover dragons they are..if you pay attention vermathor actually knocks ulf off the ledge into the pit sparing him, or sending him to silverwing..he definitely seen he was still alive...when he smelled the seeds i think he knew silverwing would like ulf and i believe he identified ulf....but thats just my theory

So get this! Ulf is similar to the favorite daughter of Good Queen Alysanne, Viserra, who she mourned for the most when she died breaking her neck while drunk riding a horse. Hugh was a drunk just like Viserra and those unresolved emotions passed to Silverwing who chose a new rider most similar to her former rider’s favorite child. Hugh’s mother Saera was the child Old King Jaehaerys wanted the most in his last days, and those emotions passed to Vermithor who reconciled with Saera’s son Hugh.
I would support Rhaenyra, she seems like the type of ruler who prefers peace over war and cares about her people.
The family tree starts really looking more like a forest ….a number of stumps and everyone having their branching fingers in everybody’s pies…..

He didn't step on one of Silverwings eggs... You can see her eggs are fine next to where his foot narrowly missed them. What he stepped in I think was a pocket of molten mucus the dragon probably uses to keep her eggs warm.
As for the claiming through magic ritual... that's just dumb... there was no sign of it so it didn't happen. That's the most conspiracy theory logic that you could come up with....

I've read Fire and Blood, but I still bend the knee to Queen Rhaenyra. She has the strongest claim to the throne, and is the least hot headed among those who have a claim. She knows the Song of Ice and Fire and can pass it down to her heirs. She knows the true weight of the crown. And it is heavy.
I think that liquid he rolled in could have been the napalm the dragons use and could have helped some. Thats just a theory though. It could have just been dirty black water and he knew it was the end of him and he accepted he was done for so he wasnt afraid anymore.

I think Ulf stepped on a casing over the eggs, and didn't break any. I think Ulf is a relative and went to Kingslanding on Rhaenyra's orders. To show how unprepared Aemond is and he should fear her and her new riders. If u ask me, its not about blood, but character. Dragons r said to b magical. GoT's warlocks in s2 reveals that they amplify magic when near them. Dragons can somehow sense if someone is worthy of their service. The 1st Valyrian ppl were shepards, before the city was build. So they were the seeds before the roots, to what Rhaenya was looking for. If the 2 before Ulf don't have any Targaryen blood roots, then these guys r brand new seeds
I really dont understand why she would order a guy who know no high valerian or riding experience to go with her new dragon to kings landing to possibly get killed just to show off ? I like to think Ulf wanted to show off to his hometown and prove he did it

I mean, maybe partly. But another large part of the reason (as stated in fire and blood) is that silverwing was ridden by ulfs grandmother, and vermithor was ridden by hughs grandfather. In her times of not being able to sit upon her throne she still finds ways to take care of her people and risk herself, her “black” family and her dragons by sending food and ways to help “her people”.
