As an Indonesian i grew up in the 2000s watching mtv. So before kpop we're more influenced with western pop and everything that goes well in the mtv chart, and southeast asian musicians dominating the chart as well. Iconic pop singers in the 2000s was agnes monica (now goes with agnez mo), siti nurhaliza from malaysia, christian bautista from the philippines. For western music we listen to avril lavigne, green day, simple plan, blink 182, my chemical romance, evanescence, maroon 5, coldplay, paramore etc. Popular shows was japanese anime (doraemon, dragon ball, chibi maruko chan, detective conan), nickelodeon's (spongebob, dora the explorer, blue's clues, cat&dog, fairy odd parents, hey arnold).

As a 90's Indonesian kids, I grow up watching everything airing on TV and I remember it's kind of mix of western, Chinese, Bollywood, Mexican, Thai and Philippines, anime from Japan and local series/movies. Sadly it's all dubbed to Indonesian so I don't really know the difference between the languages,but I learn that the names and alphabet are different from each country that I watch.
For the music I was watching MTV and local music show, and since I watch literally everything I love the ost of every dramas I watched too.
Let's say I love everything from Doraemon, to amigos, to Kuch Kuch Hota hai, to Huan Zhu Gege, to pee Mak, to meteor garden, to once upon a time in china, to the mummy, to That mermaid Philippines drama that I don't know what it's real tittle coz it's tittle was changed to "cinta putri duyung" in my country

As Indonesian, I would suggest you guys watch Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck (The Sinking of Van der Wijck) since I really love this movie. It's adapted from a legend novel with the same title, written by also a legend novelist, Buya Hamka.

MTV was so big in early 2000 in Indonesia, we have basically the same adaptation program like the US. X-Factor, Indonesian Idol, The Voice. More western entertainment. But nowadays entertainment like everything like worldwide, Kpop, American, J-Pop, whoa miss MTV era
Philippines as well, but for some reason it stopped broadcasting in 2010

Back then we have the same MTV VJ hunt, MTV cribs, even some Pimp my ride rip-off show. Japanese survival shows also big deal here. Korean hallyu came the last to Indonesia, in 2009-2011 i think🤔

I think my favorit local Indonesian TV show is "Heart" series (the one where the actors are still kids). It was memorable and sweet.
Growing up in the Philippines, I am familiar with Thai movies starred by Pimchanok and Mario Maurer such as Crazy Thing called love, and Pee Mak. (I love romcom thai movies) Moreover in Korean dramas like boys over flowers, my girlfriend is a gumiho, etc. Also kpop like 2ne1 Sandara Park.

Im a filipino but i like the movie the raid i watched it so many times and i thought horror movie PEE MAK is thai. we also love ONG BAK and for korea we all know k pop everything k pop because its trending in philippines always.
Lea will always be a queen. Still very active doing musicals, concerts, tv shows, currently in HBO Max Pretty little liars Original sin.. and will be part of Broadway's First All-Filipino cast in Here lies love. and have i mentioned the Tony Awards, yes she is the first Asian to received it. Also it's rare to be singing for 2 Disney Princesses that's why she was bestowed as a Disney Legend. Part of the perks aside from her handprint/signature and a heavy trophy is that she can go to Disneyland everywhere any time she wants for free and she doesn't have to fall in line.

I agree, as much as I'm a big Lea( maybe the one with the most prestige) fan, Apl DeAp, Nicole and Enrique Iglesias are more into Pop Culture.
The most iconic probably is Freddie Aguilar if you think of through the ages. There is also Asin, Regine Velasquez. This is coming from one who didn't actively listened to pinoy songs as I was into Rock/heavy metal. Apl DeAp, Nicole and Enrique only had filipino blood and were succesful in the international scene but they didn't do much, if any at all, for filipino music...even Lea Salonga.
@@rap3208 If they are popular in the US, they are equally popular here. I was a kid and a teenager when BEP, PussyCat Dolls, Enrique Iglesias and Bruno Mars rose to fame. This was the time when Myx was prevalent. If I were to paint the pop scene during 2000s and 2010s, it would have been a mix of US pop and Pinoy Alternative bands. I knew nothing about Asin and Anak is the only thing I knew about Freddy.

@@rap3208 but it's pop culture we are talking about. The pop culture in the Philippines is a mix of US artists and Alternative bands in those days. Their impact is that they have a piece of the Philippines in them. They may have not raised our colors there in the US, but their music is everywhere when I was growing up.
