Philips for example is pronounced the same in english as dutch and flemish(the Mr. Philips was from Belgium but made the brand Philips in the Netherlands) same with DAF and i never hear people pronounce Donkervoort or Spyker(car manufacturers) and i just accept KLM at this point since its an acronym

I've heard that spy was called MATAHARI because the Netherlands conquered Indonesia during WWI.

Understandable that the Frenchman picked it up with Mata Hari. It was actually in WW1 that an exotic dancer took on that name and was a Dutch spy working for Germany. She met her demise in the face of a firing squad in France.

German is the biggest language influence on Swedish apart from Old Norse. Not only because of the germanic root but also because of trade history.
Also, Frozen has a Swedish name, it's "Frost".
Rgearding Frozen, it's funny because in french AND german they put the name of the old fairy tale from Andersen (probably thinking it will sell more as people know what it is). Disney didn't because Frozen is only loosely based on the Snow Queen. It would be kind of dishonest to brand it with the name of the original tale if 90% of the story is completely made up. Which makes it different from Cendrillon, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Sleeping Beauty etc...
Worth mentioning that Disney did the same with Tangled: loosely inspired by Raiponce, but a story mostly invented. Also changed back the name of the movie to the original fairy tale in France and Germany (Raiponce).

The word “Matahari” in Indonesian meaning the sun, is actually two words “Mata” means eye and “Hari” means day.

There are words that have multiple correct spellings in the same country. In the USA we write canceled or cancelled as correct. Camaraderie comradery axe ax

Matahari itself actually has 2 words in it. I dont know those words have relation to the meaning 'sun' or not, but 'mata' means eyes and 'hari' means day, so matahari literally could means the eye of the day. 😄
"Matahari" is used in daily conversation. "Surya" & "mentari" often used in songs, poems, literatures. There are also "baskara, syamsi, rawi, dan syams" which rarely used even in the songs, poems, literatures. and not many indonesians know these words.
Interesting, surya is from samskrit. It's fascinating to see how many words are from samskrit in indonesia given how far away it is.

I think if English hadn't taken so much French influence "fleur" for flower, we might still be using the old word "bloom", which would make us similar with our Germanic language cousins of Swedish and German.
If English didn't have any history after 1066 then sure, but it wouldn't be English. I just don't understand why English-speaking people keep repeating that like they regret 9 centuries of the history of their language. A thing I just felt like clarifying with the Swedish subtitle is that it should be “Äpple” not Apple… I’m a Swede so.. I should know that Swedish has Å,Ä,Ö which aren’t in English…
Also Sweden has a history of taking German words for our own use.. I remember just a few months ago that we were learning in my class about words that are Swedish but have roots from other places and my friend who studied German or maybe still does… he pointed out how so many words sound like German words he learned.. but it’s like no secret that Swedish language has lots of words from other languages specially from Europe… including German, French and other stuff..

Yes, a lot of English-related stuff just replacing Å Ä Ö with A A O like it could be done like that. But that would be like replacing U and W with V in English for the same reason. "vvonderfvl" is just as misspelled as Swedish "apple".

yea im finnish, we have to learn swedish cuz of the history between our countries (2nd national language) and i was as an exchange student in germany and they had a dog and they were talking bout the dog in german and said ”hund” and i understood they were talking bout the dog cuz hund is the same in swedish too
