Keaton and West sucked, that wasn't Batman. I'm sure they were great memories when you watched but realistically they were horrible. 89 Batman was so popular because it had been such a long time since a live action version was on screen. 66 Batman was a parody of the comic book scene. Both could not fight, Keaton's version couldn't even move, and both showed no sign of being a trained detective like the real Batman from the comics. Everyone has such fond memories of them because of how they made them feel. I get it, but no, they were horrible.

people always trashed licensed movie games back when they were around, but boy do i miss 'em. even when they were bad (99% of the time), they were a great complement to the experience of a movie you were really excited about. of course they couldn't make a standard modern game with a big budget and years of development, but if some cheap shovelware based on The Batman or The Flash came out, i'd buy it in a heartbeat.
and i was lucky enough to find the Batman cabinet years after release at a little family restaurant on a road trip in Texas. it was the only game they had, so it felt like destiny.
p.s. using the ABC saturday morning cartoon commercial bumper was perfect!

The only actual video games they had were a Terminator game (I dont think it was T2) and some giant... and I mean GIANT Pacman game. The screen is literally 10 feet tall.
So finding these "arcades" was actually pretty bittersweet... because I found them to be arcades in name ONLY.

Fun Fact about the Mega Drive version. The game was completely in English because Sunsoft had every intention to release it in Na. They had to sue Nintendo of America to get the contract rescinded. In JP, there are no deals like what was in NA which is why the game was able to be released there without issue. Once Nintendo was take to court, they decided to change the conditions of their contracts to allow for competitive releases by the same publishers on other platforms. And immediately after that judgement was in favor of the publishers (Sunsoft and others) the game was repackaged into a Genesis cart/case and sold right away.
I bought the JP Mega Drive version because it was stated the game was not allowed to come to NA... then it did the following year. My copy still is in my collection.

Even Batman will no doubt try the Little Caesar's Cowlzone Batman Pizza. ;) Cool history of Batman, thanks! Having played all of the Batman games now, my favorites are the Super NES Brawler Batman Returns game, and the Batman 89 Movie Arcade Batman game with the weird cape look.

Best Batman movie. I really liked the NES game as a kid but never had it. Apparently my Aunt was going to buy it for me but was told it was too difficult so she got me Fester’s Quest instead…. Played the Genesis game well after the fact in 1994 or so. I wanted to track a copy down but it was long out of print.

I remember when Batman and Batman Returns first came out and it was so Amazing.... I absolutely love the Michael Keaton films ❤️.... And Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors of all time.... but I don't think him portraying Batman would have worked out all that well.... So I'm glad we missed out on that one too......😅.... I remember renting the Nintendo SunSoft Game watching my brother play it till he beat it.... Among lots of others.... If it was made in the '80s and early '90s I can guarantee you I played it....

10:58 I had no idea these were actually Batman villains. I thought they were random thugs and ninjas.

When I first started playing the game back in the day I did as well until I read the manual. A lot of those villains were really obscure and didn't translate well into the eight bit format

The Sunsoft Batman game on the NES has a special place in my heart, even if I was never able to finish it back in the day. I received my copy for free from Sunsoft a couple of weeks before it's original release in exchange for my detailed thoughts on the game. I had previously purchased Blaster Master and Fester's Quest shortly after they were released and had sent mail to Sunsoft for each of those games. Sadly I didn't receive any other games or correspondence from Sunsoft. Also, the cartridge I received was a final retail one. I even compared it to a friend's cartridge which had been purchased several months later and there were no differences that we could see.

Alfred : Master Bruce, what happened? Your Batman suit is rainbow coloured.
Batman : (irritable) The Joker set a paint-bomb trap and I walked right into it. I tried to clean it, but it just won't wash off. I'll need a new suit.

I never knew Sunsoft snagged the Batman license in '87 - interesting. Arcade version has some interesting info as well. Even though it shows a copyright of '90; US arcades did not get it till summer of '91 and supposedly 500 kits to the US and 500 to European distributors. I wonder if this hold up was due to Nicholson's likeness (which I never knew about)? One of the developers was interviewed about this game. It basically was a rush job (6 weeks) once Atari acquired the license; Konami was another one that was in the bidding war. Some stuff was cut. There was a aerial level with Batman and his cape that was nixed. Noticed how the game is very buggy was well. I'm pretty sure Atari was done with this game at this point, hence the limited distribution.

I think this was an early script they were working off when Batman throws him off the roof. The only version where it's not like that is the home computer versions for he is climbing up a ladder

No Disrespect to Sunsoft, But it Would have been Awesome if Konami got a hold of the Batman Franchise & Produced a Batman Game in the Same Vein as Batman Returns.
