Congratulations on completing your new project and thrilled for you that you received a grant! Great work braking the whole thing down and thank you so much!! Best of LUCK!!!!
This information is gold! I love how you were honest with the cost breakdown and along with your process. The grant from the Canadian Council was fantastic. I would not have thought about that. Oh Canada! Congratulations!
Hi Brenda! Congratulations on completing the album and for receiving the Canada Council grant! The information provided in this video is eye-opening. Costs certainly add up, but they're all worth it in order to have a great product. Bravo! ❤
Oh, yeah. I relate to all of this (as you know!). I haven't added up all my numbers yet, and I know some numbers will be different. For example, the studio I used costs less than Samurai, and I didn't hire an in-studio videographer and photographer (which I regret). But the one way or another, the numbers pile up.
Hi Brenda, Am I right to assume that you need to be a resident in Canada in order to qualify for grants from there? I'm an American citizen who's living in Belgium. I am going to record an album in 2025 and am looking for grant sources in North America and Europe. Thank you for this informative video!
For example, how are people going to listen to this album? On their phones? Or with studio quality monitors? What level of recording production is needed for the target audience?
People stream it, buy CDs and it gets played on the radio and on TH-cam. We always strive to make the product the highest quality so it was important to do things right with an excellent studio and engineer.
Your accent is Canadian, do you have duel citizenship? Clearly, the $$$ you would have spent (without a grant) is simply out of reach for most musicians, especially since the is no ROI due to Spotify and its ilk. If not, are these grants available to USA citizens? If not, do you know of any that are? Clearly, the burden of paying for all of this has shifted onto the musician, who generally must seek outside assistance. What about crowdfunding? Useless without scores of well-heeled connections? Thanks, great video!
I am a duel citizen! Born in Canada and living in NYC for 22 years. Crowdfunding is definitely an option, but I didn’t want to go that route. There are a few grants available to US musicians - you just have to do some research to see what is available . The Canadian grants are great but extremely competitive! Thanks for watching!
@@PianoandVoicewithBrenda Thank you for the info and thanks for doing the video! I'm sad though, because I had dreams to record with some musicians that are going to be in town with a major act in a few days, but I just can't afford it. I'll see what grants are available in the USA. For the moment, I'm just going to do literally everything myself, since I play multiple instruments. That's only a portion of the cost, as you described. I'll have to settle for bare bones for the moment. Thanks again.

Thank you Brenda, this is a real eye opener. I used to roadie for the Shelby Flint Group in LA. I really learned from this video.
Glad it was helpful!

They sure do! I wanted to go all in with video as I knew how useful they are in promotion. It added some additional costs, but I feel it was worth it.
