I know this video is old but I just found your channel a few days ago so naturally I'm binging everything! You are the greatest person ever! I love the informal feel to your repotting and chat videos. It really feels like hanging out with a friend. (I hope that doesn't sound too creepy.) I feel like I can be a good plant mommy because of you. ~ Peace, love, and lillies ✌🏾❤️🌱

Wow that's an action-packed day off. I'm just sitting on my couch like a turd drinking egg nog and waiting for my husband to cook dinner. Time to get up and get something done! Thanks for the motivation. 😀
I'm also terrible with Peperomia, I never buy them anymore. I feel like it's a plant that just wants to be left alone but I'm a helicopter plantmom, I need plants that require maintenance because I wanna get up in their business all the time. I care Peperomia to death.
Thanks for doing this video, casual plant chats are fun. 🙂

You mentioned that you thought that pot was too deep for the previous plant ( which can lead to watering problems ). When I want to use one like that, I do it cloche style (pot inside a pot). Find one for the plant that is smaller and will fit in the opening and put rocks or some other filler in the bottom of the larger one for the plant to sit on and be level with the top. If there is no drainage hole in the large one is also doubles as a pebble tray that way.

I love pepperomias. For me and the ones I have, they tend to have droopy leaves when they need water. And unlike philodendron, the second they wilt, you have to water them because they will die quickly. I agree with you, the roots on them are small and sometimes I feel like I’m doing something wrong. But I would recommend medium light and watering when it droooooops.

    Hi Harli!
I absolutely love your pot! The peperomia looks beautiful in it. I bought a Calethia this past summer and the poor thing didn't do so well. I recently repotted the few leaves left and I am praying it does better. ...when I took it out of the starter pot, the roots were overgrown and but overall look healthy. ...time will tell.
    I love Egg Nog! 😊
Looking forward to a New Hear as well.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I LOVE you peperomia in the little buddah head. It's seriously the cutest planting job I've ever seen. Also, I love you videos. I am not that well versed in being a plant mom yet and I love all your bits of advice. When I initially was looking into plants, I came across one of your videos first, (it was the one where you were showing how to propagate plants in water), and I have not stopped watching. By far my favorite plant TH-camr and you're so down to earth! I love it. Keep it coming in 2019. (:

The best peperonia tip ive heard is the taco method. When you squeeze the sides of a developed leaf of a well watered plant then there is some resistance. Level of resistance depends on the type of peperonia. But when they need water you could fold the leaf in half (like a taco) with no resistance. They arent thick and succulent like but more like a peice of paper. Water it and the leaves will fill up and it will be normal by the next day. This method works very well for me and ive yet to over water one.
I love plants that talk with their leaves.

Love this video! Good luck your pepperomia is gorgeous in the head planter. Killed a few peperomias but for the last 18 months, my pepperomia obtusifolia which is doing well in terra cotta pot with cactus soil and pumice mix, under a bright light and watered when completely dry. Basically, it gets ignored.

Thank you Harli! I love your channel, I love how you just make it real. My daughter is a vegetarian, and it is a lifestyle that can be hard. They live in a place where they recycle and they eat all organic, she is so careful with what she feeds her children and her and her husband. I want to improve on what I put into my body this next year and try and be a better version of myself. I loved this plant repotting, pepperomias are amazing, and they are what I want to add to my plant collection this next year. I just got two Calatheas and they are so beautiful and I hope to grow them well and see how I do. Harli you have a very Merry Christmas, and I will see you in your next video, and the head planter is super adorable!!

  • @FuriedHearts

    My tip with Peperomias:
For the succulent varieties I recommend using succulent/cactus potting mix. Or sometimes I mix 50/50 cactus-succulent mix and regular potting mix. When I do the 50/50 mix I usually still add a little more perlite.
I pretty much always add a little more perlite/sand to all my potting projects anyway. I honestly don’t think you can have too much drainage.
One thing I recently learned over the last two years is that common bagged potting mixes contain very very fine particles (almost like flour) that really really inhibit proper drainage. These particles are so fine that when you water the plants, there is no room for air in the soil.
I sometimes use a seive and run the bagged mixes through it to get rid of some of the super fine dust

Hi Harli! Peperomia are one of my favorite types of plants. I have a few different kinds now and I find they like to be very dry before I water them again. Moderate light 🙂

With my peporomias, I let them get 100% dry before I water them again. That has worked really well for me so far. I was also curious as to why you take the soil away from the roots before potting them, I loosen the roots before potting them but I keep the soil on.

I really like these videos :) love the plant pot combo! I love eggnog! I broke down placed a couple orders with Steve's leaves... i can't wait! I also got soil and 13 new containers. I totally struggle with peperomias and calathea... or should i say they struggle?? lol i also struggle with Rex begonias they are not dead but not awesome like my other begonias. I love all syngoniums, philodendrons and pothos... or they like me. I am constantly learning when it comes to my plants indoors and out. I was gifted some cuttings from grandma great i'm excited about my first Chinese evergreen no idea what kind yet. African violet cuttings, Christmas cactus and marble queen pothos.

Peperomias don’t like to have a lot of space, in my opinion. I give them bright indirect light and I water them when the soil is completely dry. When they start to show signs of dehydration I water them! I use a very light and well draining potting soil.

Hey Harli, I only have a couple pepperomias but but they all seem pretty happy, I pretty much just give them medium-bright light and for the most part, leave them alone and just water them when the soil is mostly dry.
They seem to like really light airy soil, I mostly just use a mix of about 50/50 peat and perlite. My thinking is you don't wanna use a mix with a lot of chunky bark pieces (like orchid bark) since they're not gentle enough on delicate roots like these have.

I love peperomia plants and have a few in my collection. I let mind dry completely out. I can touch the leaves if they are soft time to water or if the pot is really light then water.
I love egg nog but since I'm Vegan I drink Almond or Coconut Nog. I made me some oatmeal the other day and used Almond Nog to cook it in, let me tell you it was soooo delicious. Give it a try if you like oatmeal. Glad to hear you are going to try vegan. You won't regret it. It's been 6 years for me and I am sooo glad I choose this lifestyle. 😃👍🏾🌿☘️🍀🥝🥑🍅🍆

I love your casual videos!! I also love peperomias so much and they do seem like easy plants to me, which is weird!! I have 12 different varieties, the 2 are struggling, but they were online purchases and they arrived in a terrible state... I did just noticed today that one of them has new growth, which made me happy!! they need to be treated more like succulents, less water, much light. I could upload photos of mine in IG, if you want. I have never seen the one you have though, best of luck!!
my top 5 2019 "wishlist" is:
    - no more calatheas. nope. no more. they hate me :(
    - finishing up the veranda and making it the best place on earth
    - making more art and falling in love with that again
    - taking a much better care of myself and improve my mental health
    - be as best as I possibly can
...oh well, impossible tasks, but we'll see!!
My very best wishes to you and your loved ones, καλά χριστούγεννα!!! ^_^

Leslie Morales this is a year later but just use a similar size plastic drainage insert :) it’s what I do. The stylish pots are usually just for looks. Plus if it had drainage you would need a saucer underneath it or a little dish of some sort but the method I mentioned is super easy! Plus you can easily switch the pot if you don’t like it or change up decor.

❤🎄Hate eggnog. Yuck! Love repotting videos. I feel your pain with peperomias! I have a love/hate relationship with them...I LOVE them; they HATE me! I love the way the Buddha head turned out. Please tell us where you got her! Thanks! The philodendron looks great, too. Why didn't I see you add perlite to the soil? Merry Christmas, Harli & family! God bless you all. 🎄🎅
