You can reonounce Australian citizenship while in Australia. You will get what's called an ex-citizen visa, which you can live, work and study on in Australia indefnitely. You will lose it as soon as you go overseas. But then you can get a resident return visa which is permanent residency.

I can't find this answer anywhere... Can 1 spouse give up us citizenship and the other one keep theirs? How would that look like? Taxes, etc
I really want to but not sure my husband wants too as well. Time will tell but I'd love to know the options.

What happens to rental properties and properties with mortgages in the US if you renounce?

    • @dlukton

As long as you're able to get a visa to reenter the US whenever you need to, there shouldn't be a problem.

The banks don't care as long as they get paid. My uncle died in 2017. I kept paying the mortgage out of my checking account for two years, because the interest rate on his owner occupied fourplex in California was crazy low. I did not inform the bank because I didn't want it to call the loan.

Andrew. I have waited a year and one half to renounce my U S citizenship in Vancouver. I finally got my appointment a couple of months ago for November 19th.Everything seemed to have slowed right down due to COVID.

I saw a couple videos that referred to some work by Anna Von Reitz where it seems you can give up citizenship without leaving the USA. Are you familiar with this method?

I have a rather unique question i'm not sure if you have encountered .
I'm currently not an entrepreneur yet,I am a a natural born US citizen,I am also former United States Military(ARMY to be exact)
The main reason I am entertaining the concept of leaving the united states is that I want to start a business (automotive body kits) eventually and I want to know before I take this leap what's involved and I also want to thank you for the informative videos you have done which i'm in the process of watching.
My question to you is while I was in the US Army i was injured and while it was a service connected injury which i have been getting a currently small amount of money for in compensation.
If I renounce my citizenship if and how would that compensation be effected, will I be able to use VA hospitals that might be in a country I decide to go in like say Germany and seek any medical care should I need it?
Btw the countries I am considering in future moving to and setting up said business are
    Georgia
    Armenia
    Croatia
    Yugolsavia
Ireland(I have Irish on both sides of my family,to the best of my knowledge)
    Serbia
    Montengero
    Bulgaria
    Romania
    Germany
    Czech Republic
    Belarus
The premise of this is to set up my business in future in the best possible situation.Any feedback would be appreciative because this is an action i'm taking my time to think as thoroughly as possible because I have certain feelings which are in conflict with both my political ideology and my service in the army

Can you renounce australian citizenship but keep permanent residence?

  • @MsSherryl01

I have a question, please. I have permanent residency in Mexico with a small business with property in Mexico. Is there a statute of limitation on a civil court issue related to said property following a high conflict divorce proceeding involving ex husband that was later intervened with a bank seeking relief following my ex husband’s bankruptcy wherein I would be denied renouncing US citizenship? Or after 7 years would I be able to renounce without any consequences following my ex husbands banking chicanery. Unjust, unfair, as that may be, I am concerned that his actions would cause me consequences for repayment even though I have been living, working, and paying my taxes in both the US and Mexico since the divorce in 2011 and the subsequent pursuit of me since 2017. Is there a statute of limitations that would apply here?

How would another country know to FBI background check you for citizenship if you are stateless in Singapore and want to get citizenship in Malaysia?
Unless your paperwork says you are born U.S etc.
If you didn't mention you were a former U.S citizen, how would they know?..
If I was a citizen of no country and renounced life entirely to start fresh stateless in a foreign country I reside in like China.
Couldn't you say you were born there without paperwork and never had citizenship?
If there's no data of your arrival from the U.S or something.
I don't think they would FBI U.S background check for citizenship if you are stateless and born in another country..
    Open for comments.
    It's an interesting subject.
There's millions of stateless people and kids in Asia, but they're seemingly doing well with gaining citizenship when they apply.
If you're born in China rurally and not registered to the government.
They can't just kick you out of China or deport you to the U.S or somewhere.
They'd have to either give them Chinese citizenship or let them live in China as a stateless people.
