And so they rolled out of the mire..:
After an intense survey of the area, the comrades realized that retracing their steps was still their best option. Around them, there was only muddy swampland, with deep furrows, marshy ditches, and water-filled channels crisscrossing the area. Then we'll have to build a road said Robin, pointing directly to the spot where they had struggled the truck through the marshy stream. Okay, let's separate the boys from the men and get started replied the lieutenant. Luckily, there is this plastic drainage pipe they would need and whatever pieces of wood were still left, as some had been swallowed up by the ground without a trace. And today, it would be the same: digging, digging, and more digging. But the Deltaforce team was motivated, uplifted by yesterday's success. The most significant challenge in the past few days, apart from the physical strain, was the mental stress. It wasn't clear until the last moment whether they would really manage to free the truck. Encouraged by their triumph from the previous day, they pushed on with vigor. It wasn't just the physical exertion they battled with; the mental strain was equally grueling. Until the very end, uncertainty loomed like a dark cloud over whether their efforts would liberate the trapped truck.
To make things clear about this situation: It was really bad luck! We were trying to find a passage between 2 highland roads and an Icelandic Ranger advised us to drive there - by saying: "yes, it's possible on the track and this truck goes anywhere anyways.."
But track conditions became worse - even before there was no poles more to see, but tracks from cars we followed.. then poles came back- we were still on the track! Finally as I stayed on this desolate way - I got stuck. The track WAS already in a devastation condition, I did stay on this track as I didn't want to off road it to pass the impassable part..
No signal for mobile phones - and nobody since 2 days around..! What was our options?
So we digged it out for 4 days and turned around..
Shovel and wood we brought back to the shelter plus a good amount of alcohol we deposited there..
I completely respect nature - in this case we just worked on a track that was destroyed before!
Btw: 250m ahead the track ended anyways at impassable rivers..

like trench warfare , incremental small gains are hard and every foot can be a struggle but eventually a desired outcome is had.congrats
