This song was her middle finger to all the critics that were trying to shame her at the time. This moment in time was very conservative and Madonna pissed a lot of people off. Leading up to this, she had the Justify My Love video, then Erotica (album, single & video), her coffee-table photo book called SEX which was VERY explicit (it had to be sold in a sealed wrapper so that kids couldn't look at it), and her Body of Evidence film which was also quite graphic. Critics were bashing her nonstop for all this uncensored sexuality. They were effectively trying to silence her and destroy her career. But Madonna never apologized, kept pushing them. She released this video asking all these questions about why people would be offended, and ended the clip with her defiantly saying "Absolutely no regrets". Just one of the many reasons that Madonna is a legend...
I love how near the end she asks would.it sound better if she were a man, and then a few lines later follows up with "would you like me better if i was?" in a clear double entendre aimed right at the repressed sexuality of her detractors...

Half way through the video. I have to say I am charmed and relieved that the meaning is so apparent to this generation. That shows how much has changed in just a few years.
It's nice to see two Gen Z having a such an interesting view on pop-culture and you actually think and try to analyze what you're seeing/hearing. And you're Star Wars Fans too! Great! :-) Greetings from Gen X. :-)
I discovered Madonna in my teens when I saw her Blond Ambition tour live on TV. I got hooked for years and years to come! I only started to disconnect after her Confessions era, which for me marked her last stand as a legendary trendsetter. It was a really wild two-decade ride for me... the cultural landmark that was her Truth or Dare film; the groundbreaking Justify My Love video and the impact it had on MTV; the brutal impact of her Sex and Erotica works; the astounding Ray of Light age; her cowboy chic Music days at the turn of the millennium; her demonized American Life album that was meant to be a cry against war during the Bush years; and her beautiful disco themed Confessions on a Dance Floor that was a POP powerhouse back in the day. And everything in between... During these times, I made with the 1980's Madonna exactly what you're doing now with her entire career... discover, analyze and learn (although during the first years there was no such thing as the Internet, so I pretty much had to buy CD's and VHS tapes to have the job done). I'm pretty excited for you, guys! This woman was (is) an absolute icon that paved the way for most female artists who came after, and to discover her career and the impact she had throughout the decades is a fabulous and rewarding journey. Keep it up! 🤗
It was cool when almost at the end you seemed like you started to pay attention what she was whispering! Because that’s like a parallel song. She could’ve whispered what she sang and vice versa but still the message would’ve been the same. That’s the genius of Madonna. “Would it sound better if I was a man?” - Get the Picture? ❤️
You guys may be listening to these Madonna tracks a generation later but your reaction is pretty much the same as we all felt at the time when we were teenagers etc , it’s spot on. Shows how well these songs, and the clever thinking behind them, have aged.
Queen of reinvention. Her songs and videos are always insightful and have deep meaning. No wonders the music industry call her the Queen of pop and madly respect her
Hi guys, all good? I really like to see your reactions to Madonna's videos/songs! I think is soo nice to see younger people to get to know her amazing history!!!😊😊
It's going good! It's been cool to learn about all her music and her impact on the culture. It might be confusing for us sometimes but we are definitely learning more with each video of hers we watch! Glad you're enjoying the videos, more to come!
Guys, you're doing an excellent job understanding her and to remark that Pop, Shows and Arts wouldn't be what they are nowadays if it wasn't because of her Goddess. 🤭
Should do “Take a Bow” next. It’s one of her best slow songs/videos and you’ll be shocked it’s from the same album as Human Nature. But please react to the music videos for Nothing Really Matters and Like a Prayer and Erotica (live from the confessions tour)
You guys dont stop amazing me...so wise, quick and so young! love your Madonna's reaction...continue....you should do concert performances: like a prayer (Sticky and Sweet), Erotica (Confessions), La isla bonita (the girlie show), Get into the groove (sticky and sweet)...there are so many amazing performances...
I really appreciate how the both of you are looking deeper into her songs meanings & videos. I applaud you both, not only for reacting to her music, but doing it with intelligence and respect.
That’s the correct way to continue Madonna’s discography, this is the “sorry” song after Erotica. React to “Future Lovers” from Confessions tour, her entrance is everything
There was a time when she performed this recently and after she goes “I’m not your b*tch” and the video in the back is Britney Spears going “It’s Britney, b*tch”. There was also a time where Britney walked out on the stage to perform a part of the song with her too

Just discovered your channel! Honestly I was skeptical about how you'd handle Madonna. But I've been really impressed by how thoughtful your reactions are and how you really try to understand her messages and symbolism and that everything has a meaning beyond the surface. Been following Madonna since day one....I was 14 when she released her first album and her impact is phenomenal.
React to her tour, try to do like a marathon type of thing. It is pretty cool. You will understand more of why she's the queen of pop. If you still have any doubt about it.
You know that incredible explosive energy that's right where two tectonic plates are shifting against each other on Earth, right where a Volcano is trying to erupt, that's Madonna
Great reaction. You guys pretty much nailed it. I'm glad you reacted to "Erotica" and "Justify My Love" first. This was a direct response to critics who said she'd gone too far with "Erotica" and the Sex photo book she released at the time, but it's also just a comment about her entire career and the sexism she received. After this song/era, she really toned things down and went in a different direction until more recently when she's re-embraced her more sexual side. I hope you react to some of her softer, more personal songs like "Oh Father," "Drowned World," and "You'll See." And "Ghosttown" is a more recent one.
Yes this song is from 1994 from her album Bedtime Stories released in '94. However Human Nature as a single with the video was released in 1995. In those days she dated 2Pac and Dennis Rodman.
Have you noticed the words "envy" and "fear" shaved in the back of her dancers' heads? This is a great video that deserves a more detailed look. As usual, great reaction, guys.
Let me tell you what’s amazing about Madonna during this phase in her career. I was born in January 1970, so during the 80s I was a preteen and teenager Madonna was everything and then the 90s. She was still everything and she went through so many phases of reinventing herself and this phase of her career was her Dita phase, and by far my favorite phase of all of her reinventions. But what I want to say is this, all of this shit going on nowadays with racism and the huge divide that has been created in our country, back then Madonna with cornrows, and when had a gold tooth, no one complained about that no one said it was cultural, appropriation, or whatever people appreciated the fact that this woman was an amazing artist, and she honored people with her different phases in her career and I miss that! I grew up during a time where everybody got along, granted there was racism because there will always be racism unfortunately in every direction, but it wasn’t the way it is now, we all got along and people hung out. I mean back in the day I grew up in Miami and my friend group was a huge mix of white people, Black people, Jamaicans, Cubans, Haitians I mean I had a huge friend group of all walks of life and we loved life every day we hung out and we just did our thing. I’m so tired of this fucking crap that’s going on now like it’s pissing me off! It needs to stop.
I'm not sure if someone wrote already in the comments but many agree that those cubes/boxes represent the close minds that she has been fighting for. She said "you're the one with the problem" and "just deal with it", the fight against conservative ideology very common concept in many M songs, videos and even speeches like the Billboard 2016 or the interview Nightline 1990 for example.
