"Hailing from Seattle, The Dip is an electrifying seven-piece ensemble that melds vintage rhythm and blues and modern pop with "impeccably crafted, 60's-steeped soul" (KEXP). The group quickly gained notoriety throughout the Pacific Northwest for their eminently danceable live shows that feature the powerful vocals of frontman Tom Eddy (Beat Connection), bolstered by the deep pocket of their unmistakably detailed rhythm section, and the spirited melodies of “The Honeynut Horns”. Hard-hitting but sensitive, The Dip harkens back to the deep soul roots of the decades past and pays tribute to this history through the grit and grace of their performances. The band's 2015 self-titled debut, recorded to tape at Avast! Studios, propelled them to notable appearances at prodigious festivals such as Sasquatch! Music Festival, High Sierra Music Fest, Summer Meltdown, and Capitol Hill Block Party as well as built anticipation for their 2016 release, Won't Be Coming Back (EP). I'm a music education voice major in Mississippi and the blues/soul sound is so deep in my veins now there's no way Id ever be able to get away from it at this point. This sound and vibe is 100% goals. Love this band. If you're into them I can't highly recommend Vulfpeck, saint Paul and the Broken Bones, and Alan Stone enough. I'm so glad this sound is alive and well in this day and age.

I love that bands are bringing back this old school feel and tone. I wonder if they use old analog tape equipment in the studio.

Can I ask how you get that sound on your vocals live? I don't know what the technical term is, but it's this certain vocal tone that sounds like an older recording. Is it distortion on the mic? Lots of compression? It almost seems like the vocals aren't as clean. I love it though. It gives them more of an "instrument" type quality...if that makes sense.

@@ViciousTuna2012 coming from a mix engineer perspective, i would believe that is his voice you are picking up. some dudes just have that golden voice. But of course there is quite a bit of compression and most probably some tape emulation or the real thing. tape is my one and only love. FUCKING LOVE TAPE

Seen these guys with Michael Franti last summer. Wow. Absolutely incredible. I pray they come near me again so I can go again. Absolutely must see show if you can go...Probably the most unique sound you'll ever hear.
