    Hey gang! Here's another Guthrie-related nugget from my past and a clip video of an old clinic I held at Guitar Center about a dozen years ago in Evansville, IN.
    Spoiler alert - I performed a version of Govan's "Wonderful Slippery Thing" and some other jams and all of the backing tracks I used for this clinic came from Guitar Techniques Magazine.
    Stay classy, San Diego.

      here he is slumming it with the local mortals. There's no ego with Guthrie, which is lovely seeing as how talented he is. He's just happy to make music th-cam.com/video/IKn_jRIdLws/w-d-xo.html

    Guthrie lives a stones throw from me. Sometimes he even shows up at the local blues jam night. He's a really nice chap.

    I was lucky enough to meet Guthrie at 2 different gigs at a small club he regularly played in Chelmsford, UK. I went upstairs for some fresh air and he was standing at the door of the club smoking a roll up cigarette, LOL. He was a very approachable, down to earth and friendly guy and was happy to chat with me. The solos on Hand Cannot Erase are just astonishingly good.
    Dave i also wanted to say that i am now a massive fan of your channel . I look forward to every lesson, you are a truly gifted and talented teacher, many thanks man!

    IMHO, Mr. Govan is a prime example of your core guitar ideology that I got from your overview of Malmsteen's arpeggios. That whole, what I call, "Bruce Lee / be like water" approach to playing by incorporating all the different styles (sorry, not a guitar player) and connecting them. Malmsteen floored me as well with his blistering, soulful & accurate play (Icarus Dream Suite is my fav). Hearing his actual finger work and picking at those speeds on his records is so raw.
    AND Govan blew my mind with his freakishly technical Einstein fusion. Another instance where the voice is just so original and the speed and accuracy is on a whole other level. Yet it's not lacking soul. FOR ME (my opinion), he was the next step in pioneering the Guitar (EVH, Malmsteen, Govan). Where the ideas are just so innovating. However, he doesn't hide behind a DAW or pedals. I guess that's part of my criteria. A real analog player like EVH & YJM. (sorry, got on my soapbox)

    DUUUUUUDE. That bootleg video of Stratus from the India tour is one of my FAVOURITE Guthrie clips. The level of musicianship in the performance from all the guys (especially the drummer) is just mind boggling, and it's SO groovy. And I've been watching and re-watching that clip for YEARS. And now I've come across this video of yours. YEEEES. Made my day. Thanks for ALL the quality content man!

    I saw the Aristocrats probably that same year in San Francisco. Funny story. In-between their 2 shows, Guthrie was outside the club smoking a cig in his t-shirt and leather jacket. Some d-bag going into the club kind of brushes up on him and says something to the effect of "uhhh, excuse me bro" and keeps walking into the club. All I could think of is what a moron, you don't even know who you just brushed off to get into the club. I remember going to the stage and seeing his small amp and pedalboard in amazement. They crushed it!!!

    What a great story! The fact that you ran into him over the years, through different phases of his career is mindblowing! An interesting version of 'Stratus' that I think he may have gotten inspiration from as well is the version Scott Henderson did live with Cobham/Berlin. I like the licks you pulled from this...I'm always cranking it back to back with Henderson's version. Another great lesson my friend!

    I’m really enjoying your channel - Thanks for all the work you put in to it. I have a recommendation for you: Mark McGee, formerly of Vicious Rumors. Mark had the foreboding task of following Vinnie Moore, who played on the bands debut album Soldiers of the Night. Mark’s debut on the next album, Digital Dictator, is full of wonderfully fiery and fluid playing. The rest of his time with the band is a showcase for his songwriting and increasingly unconventional approach to Rock/Metal leads. To me, he has always played with an incredible mental intensity, never overplaying but never resorting to muscle memory patterns. There’s some great live footage of the Mark McGee/Carl Albert lineup out there. To me, an Ibanez through a Marshall never sounded better. I think you’ll find something to enjoy 😉

    The most underrated guitarist imo

    • @iganpparamarta8813
      @iganpparamarta8813 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because he plays fusion, a difficult music to understand (read : listen). Only good-eared or theory mastering musicians (Rick Beato, Dave LNL, to name a few) would love him and rate him good. Unfortunately most listeners of 'guitar music' out there are like me, anything played with godlike technical prowess plus chicken picking, weird chords with numbers, and lines of notes that have no space between them, is just a conFUSION, not pleasant to listen, or "they all sound the same". I lost almost all of my casette collection of DT (prog), Metallica (heavy/trash metal), and Helloween (speed metal) due to mold and I didn't need to think twice to buy all of them via iTunes. But I wouldn't pay a first drink charge to watch Guthrie. No disrespect to Guthrie. Just want to give more words to anybody who's saying Guthrie (or any other fusion skilled guitarist who can play almost anything) as 'underrated'.
