the girl who appeared in the video (and in the pictures you mentioned) isn't Selena Gomez, it was a different model who appeared just for the music video. Selena was featured only for the vocal parts. i don't really know much about them but i think the situation you came up with kinda applies to their brief relationship as well. thank you for the reaction, i love this song!

If I remember correctly Selena and Charlie were REALLY good friends around the time this song came out but I believe he told her he had feelings for her and their friendship just kind of disappeared and they literally don’t talk anymore lmao. Also around this time Selena was going through some things with Justin Bieber and while Charlie was performing at one of his concerts he yelled into the mic “Fuck you Justin Bieber” to defend Selena and to show how much he hated the guy for hurting her. Lmao you can probably find the video on youtube. But yeah her and Charlie definitely don’t talk anymore and I’m not sure what really made their friendship fall apart but there’s a lot of evidence online about it being about him liking her and her not feeling the same way. I could be completely wrong.
Apparently she was leading him on and making him think they were gonna be a thing when she knew she didn't have any feelings for him and that he had feelings for her

They actually went out for a while and he cheated on her. He wrote a song called How Long about it in which he uses a painting that looks just like her and she followed up with singing a song called Kinda Crazy about him!

The girl in the video is selena look alike because back then selena was on tour & she coudn’t shoot the MV ! They were fiends back then (he appeared on her tour but not childhood friends) but there were rumours of them being involved (& ironically they do not talk anymore now because he wanted more & spoke publically aboit the relashionship while she did not & wanted to stay friends)

I don't think this song is about Charlie and Selena's relationship. For me, it was one of those situations where life resembles fiction, because they were friends, collaborated on the music, he looked like really intense about his feelings for her - hence the live show they made because Selena probably wasn't available to shoot the official music video due to agenda conflicts and the way he looked at her is like she's the center of his universe. Charlie said a few times he had make out with a few of his partners in songs - at the time there was just Meghan Trainor and Selena Gomez - but it wasn't reciprocate with Selena, she was still struggling with her feelings for JB and Charlie kept talking about her for a little while promoting the song, but then they just fell apart. They really don't talk anymore.
Right now, I'm sure he must have gone through it all, because he even collaborated with Justin in a song, so...
I just recently discovered your channel and have enjoyed many of your reactions. For me, the video portrays a couple that has recently broken up (probably many times) so they dont want to talk anymore because each time they do, they get back together but then, again, break up. They miss each other but dont to continue in that cycle or think the other person doesnt want to stay in touch. So relatable. Regards!

I see a lot of the comments saying this song actually is about Charlie & Selena, & I got NO clue if that's true or not, or what that would even mean for the songs interpretation tbh, since I don't rlly follow celebrity friendships/relationships/drama/etc. all that much 😅
However, how I always interpreted this song, especially now w/ the added visuals from the music video, was that it illustrated a relationship from both sides after a falling out/breakup, where both people involved aren't happy w/ how things ended, & they both miss having each other in their lives. But, bc all they both ever see/hear about the other person is the "I'm happy & I've totally moved on" persona that they both put up as a front out in public, they both end up fully believing that the other person actually HAS moved on completely. And so, they end up in a vicious cycle of always hesitating just before they actually manage to reach out to each other, making them both continue to miss each other & needlessly suffer in silence 😭😭
