  • In this video I will give you a brief description of the function and use of the different lights we have on the Boeing 737-800.
When do we use them? why are they there and how do the controls look?

The LED lights on the newer 737s are so much brighter than the incandescent ones. I live around 50 miles from the coast of England and you can see the lights come on as they pass 10,000ft on their way into Stansted.

    @Hopeless_and_Forlorn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Couple of things--the anti-collision lights are meant to increase visibility of the airplane in flight. Using them to alert ground crews to engine runs and so forth is secondary. The wheel well lights have a switch in the cockpit, as well as in or adjacent to the wheel wells, because the "classic" 737 aircraft have viewer devices in the floor of the airplane that allow a crew member to look at a part of the landing gear downlock mechanism in flight and verify a down-and-locked condition for landing if the normal indication system did not function. Because of this, the aircraft could not be dispatched if a light in the wheel well was burned out. On the 737NG and later, the viewers are not installed because two landing gear position sensors and indicators are installed for each gear. The wheel well lights remain to assist in inspecting equipment in the wheel wells on the ground, which tend to be dark even in daylight.
For those questioning which lights are installed on each airplane, or which lights may be inoperative, download the PDF from FAA of Boeing 737 Master MEL and look at Chapter 33--LIGHTS. You will see what a difficult task flight crew, maintenance, and dispatchers have in answering those questions. Luckily each operator (airline) has a MEL document customized for the particular aircraft model and equipment options, which simplifies the task somewhat.

Hi, I am almost done with building my 737ng sim and was hoping you would talk about the internal lighting. Exactly what lights are control via the light panels below the MIB and on each side? Where are All the lights projected from? How do you change colors from red to white? From what power systems do they get their power. What about the IBL, how is it tested? Where is the split between the capt and fo MIB lighting controls?

Anti collision beacons are NOT always on the bottom. Dash 8s, some Q300s have on the tail and under the belly but some just have it on the tail. Q400s only have it on top, just forward of the wings. I'm sure there's others but the Dash 8s vary on placement

lift is caused by circulation, controlled by the trailing edge flow, called the Kutta condition
The winglets increase the effective wing span and therefore reduce the induced drag, which is proportional to the square of the spanloading.
The winlets increase like the biplane the apparent mass of the air deflected downwards. That is it.
You might read up the publications of prof. Dr Barnes McCormick, who describes the exact theory of wings. Pennsylvania state University.

Thank you for the awesome video! I have a question about the lights inside of the cockpit. Is there a light to light up the overhead panel on a 737? I know the displays can be lit up, but is there a possibility of lighting the panel in general?

What about the fasten seat belt lights and the no smoking lights?

They're not lights, they're signs :) But i can explain it to you. In the 737, there is no "No Smoking" sign. It is always illuminated in the cabin, but in the cockpit, it is replaced with a "Chime". This is so pilots can communicate with cabin attendants. And so, you can't actually turn off the "No Smoking". Reason for that is, it is illegal to smoke in planes. The fasten seatbelt sign is used differently, depending on airlines. Some turn it off at 10,000 feet, some until cruising altitude. Some leave it off when going through turbulence, some turn it on. It's really the pilots responsibility.

From where you are seated it seems that you would have a hard time seeing the runway during take-off and landing. Do you adjust the chair higher or is that always your view?

Can you please explain the engine vibration indicator and would that cause the fan blades to rub against the abraded shroud of the inside of the engine. Thank you, I appreciate it.

Hi mentour, this is something is really like to know. The new 73's wingtip strobe is beacon like and the older 73's is strobe like. I could take a good guess to why Boeing changed this but was hoping you would know. Many thanks in advance Petter.

The 737 flaps will be used to evacuate the plane over the wings? It makes sense, given how close to the ground a 737 is, but I never really thought of actually sliding down the flaps themselves.

Do you turn anti-collision off when you have pushed back, or when do you turn off the anti-collision lights?
    Very nice vid btw!

They're turned on and left on until the engines are shut down and the aircraft is no longer moving. In the air and on the ground, they're used to indicate your presence to other aircraft, like police car lights.

+Zach21GF The anticollisuon light stays on until we have parked, after flight when the N2 drops below 20%

    Hi captain
Why this 737 didn't have extendable landing lights switch?

Its a new 737 with the LED array. It doesn't have any retractable lights.
