Before the pandemic hit I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go cage diving with white sharks in the Neptune Islands. I have friends in Hobart and got to visit them. I'm looking forward to getting back there one of these days soon
I am a big Stan Rogers fan and saw him many times, but this song never made an impression on me until I heard this version, performed by you. Thank you.
A good friends father passed away recently and they played this at his funeral, Stan was one of his favorite artists. I listen to it every night, it has a very calming effect on me. I will be adding this to my play list. Thank you for this amazing cover.
This was my favorite Stan Rogers song from the moment I heard it a few years ago. Your version is absolutely wonderful, it does the original justice and then some. I’m glad I came across it 😊
Thank you so much, that's very kind of you! And yes, I'm always sad we'll never have new Stan Rogers music. And good on you for learning the guitar. When I first picked one up, I remember being so daunted and afraid. But if it brings you joy and you love playing, then it's worth it. For this specific song, I actually found this guy's tutorial really helpful. I made a few slight changes to my own rendition, but it really helped me find my way around the song. th-cam.com/video/pOvZ47WlyGM/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps, and good luck!
Thank you for linking the tutorial to what help you play this. I see that guitarist used a capo. Did you have to change your tuning to compensate. Wish my ear was good enough to figure it out.
Another song I'd never heard before! Apparently, it's a tough song to sing and I have terrible breath support, but I'll give it the old college try. If I can get it, I'll post it. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for listening!
Well, I finally got around to giving Flowers of Bermuda a try, so that video is now up! You guys weren't kidding about take a deep breath and good luck. Thank you again for the suggestion!
Also, HFG I just saw your comment and I'm listening to Take it from day to day and it brings tears to my eyes. What a beautiful song. Definitely on the list. Thank you!
Hey Aileen, I don’t mind Mary McCaslin’s version-it’s a bit peppier-but I much prefer Stan’s more poignant version so I use his guitar fingerpicking pattern. Thank you for watching!
@@MaryWinterroth my point was not about versions--it was that Mary wrote the song and the proper credit isn’t given. The video title makes it seem as if Stan wrote the song.
Beautiful. Stan Rogers also covered the song. Here's what I believe to be the OG: th-cam.com/video/_fIIfV6wcqQ/w-d-xo.html By Mary McCaslin, hey, that's your name too. Cool.
This is one of my favourite songs that Stan performed, mostly I love the positive message of the lyrics. What I thought was interesting (by watching this: th-cam.com/video/gpis0Q3VBFg/w-d-xo.html) was that Stan worked with the original songwriter of this song Mary McCaslin (th-cam.com/video/_fIIfV6wcqQ/w-d-xo.html) and made it his own. I love you take on this and your voice is excellent. You might enjoy Mary's original version of this, but, I guess I'm just a sucker for Stan's. Please keep posting these great covers :).
Thanks so much, Colin! And thank you for the links! I had actually looked up Mary’s original version and I like it, but it’s a very different feel. I do love the piano in her arrangement and it’s peppy, but there is something so lovely and poignant in Stan’s version that just pulls in my heart. The way he sings it makes the song a bit of a chameleon. I feel like it can fit whatever mood I’m in. Thanks for watching!
Great to see a young person digging for and finding this great song. I play this one too, in Tasmania. Super job

Thank you.
It was the last thing he recorded.

Your voice is so ethereal and enchanting! :) I could listen to you sing all day!
Stan Rogers is one my favorites and influences in playing and singing. Love Stan he died a hero
Another song beautifully done lass, I'd like to think Stan would be proud to hear it
Beautifully done. Stan would be proud.
Amazing, thank you so much. I was struggling with this one and you really helped. Beautiful rendition.
This song has always reminded me of the beauty and simplicity of Canada
You keep the spirit of this song true. I am so happy I found this version you made. I hope to hear more music from you.
Beautiful song and cover. I love Stan’s music. I sang this so msg for my mom in Hospice. Beatiful ending
No I didn’t cry lol, beautifully done, I love Stan rogers and all his music, wish he was still here
I know, he was gone too soon. It always makes me sad. :(
Wonderful cover..thank you i love stan rogers songs your cover is amazing.
Hey this is great, I absolutely love Stan Rogers tunes and folk in general.
I Love that Song! -- And your voice. I needed the Tabs on Guitar, -- Thank`s for show that! Wish you a wonderful Day
I just figured out how to play this yesterday! What a coinkadink. Your version sounds great!
Yes. That’s how Stan did it. Not an easy one but you nailed it.
Stan would be proud
So lovely. You are awesome.
Beautiful voice. Did this song justice.
Thank you!
This is excellent. Sure it would be Stan approved.
Wow! What a voice. ❤
Thank you, Maureen!

I'm struggling to learn guitar so I can play some Stan Rogers songs, and your channel has been a bit of an inspiration. Thank you!

@@MaryWinterroth Woah, thanks! That's really useful!
Ha ha for the first couple chords... Wow for the singing. On high notes you're a pretty bird, on low notes you're a gorgeous lady
This made my day! Beautiful job! I wondered where you got the tabs?
Nevermind the naysayers. This is awesome ! You should make a tutorial on how to play it I would love to learn this song it's so Unique!
Great Cover!!
Thank you!
sick
Wicked!
Actually, it;s a Mary McCaslin cover
Thank you for linking the tutorial to what help you play this. I see that guitarist used a capo. Did you have to change your tuning to compensate. Wish my ear was good enough to figure it out.
Sure thing! And I used the same relative tuning but didn’t bother tuning my guitar up because the key it was in suited my voice better.
Stan's version is also a cover........of Mary McCaslin.
He died way too young. Nicely done!
May I suggest Flowers of Bermuda?

@@MaryWinterroth in the songs from fogartys cove song book Stan says to take a deep breath before the chorus and good luck.

I sing this as a lullaby for my 3 year old daugter
EXCELLENT choice!!
This is not a Stan Rogers song---it was written by Mary McCaslin and Stan loved it and often performed it.
