Being An Assassin Must Be Lonely | AC Origins Stealth & Escape

  • I often think about the psychological and emotional consequences of dedicating oneself to the brotherhood. Especially if you become a field assassin, where you need to spend vast amounts of time by yourself. It must be a very difficult and even monastic existence to be a true assassin. I think AC Origins is the best to show this idea of loneliness as the map of Egypt is so huge and bayek often finds himself dwarfed by impossible mountains and lost in unforgiving sands. Even when he reaches civilization he is a stranger who constantly needs to gauge if the people he meets are friends or foes. I often wonder what the consequences to the psyche would be, of going for such prolonged periods of time without proper human contact/relationships.
This is probably made worse by the constant threat of death and the constant necessity for violence and deceit. It seems so unnatural and inhumane to maintain a life where your default state of existence involves some sort of hostility. How could someone stay sane after that? what amount of mental maintenance in an assassin's downtime is required to be able to stay sane? This is why I chose to post this video even if I got detected. I normally scrap this stuff, but the detection and thrilling escape scene, to me, highlight how when you're an assassin, it is literally you against the world in every sense of the word. When you enter a guarded fort, it is one man against an army. If you are spotted, you could risk not only dying but compromising the brotherhood. The pressures of performing your function as an assassin seem psychologically unsustainable. Perhaps we think an assassin reaching old age is an accomplishment. But unless you reach peace and enlightenment like Ezio did, it is probably a larger mercy to die early, before the life these men and women have chosen truly takes a toll. Idk, let me know your thoughts.
Assassin's Creed Origins is a 2017 action-adventure video game developed and published by Ubisoft. It is the tenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the successor to 2015's Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

This why I love orgin. The big open map, walking across the desert with your camel. The loneliness of it . Gave you a lot of time to think as you travelled the desert . Like a old merchant traveling from cities to cities for a job . But my job is to kill. Assassins have trained their mental strength to the max to be so dedicated . Everytime I passed through a town or village , I would just be thinking how peaceful it would be just getting a house there and farming and living a normal life with wife and kids .

You should do a who was the loneliest assassin, it can be interesting to see even though these people are part of a brotherhood they can be the loneliest.
But on a general aspect, talking about something similar to what is written in the description would be a cool video subject, and would be a great way to democratize the philosophical aspects of Assassin's creed since you have a big channel covering the series. It might help newer fans understand better the games maybe encouraging them to play the old one and who knows maybe helping Ubi too.

beautiful, just beautiful. this is why in AC 1, masyaf was inspired by monasteries and by religion in general. we could say that the assassins don't go well with religion and dogma, but when we see the discipline, the robes, the dedication and faith in the brotherhood, the lessons and sublimation of pain, and the little things, how altair meditates before starting an assassination mission, it really feels like a creed. it feels like those are men doing things that take them to the edge. and escapes are very thrilling. hitting the replay buttom over and over to get a perfect run takes a lot of joy from the game. the little things that happen in some games, like faction fights and daring escapes are aways a great experience. i only like to really be perfectly stealthy in the major assassinations, that are designed to be played multiple times to get the most enjoyment out of it.

    • @AltairStealth

I imagine Bayak was made for this transition in his life. Seeing he was Medjay at first being high guard then having everything stripped I imagine the training and isolation of being elite made him suitable for it then the rage that followed you. You say he felt alone how could he not ? But that solitude molded him into a master.

  • @zjay
    @zjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

the description made me remember a mission where bayek found an old friend, claridas iirc (i dont remember his real name) bayek is happy and smiling when talking to him, but when his friend turns around his expression completely changes, same thing with that warrior woman that helps in the arena, these might have been friends once, but he needs to keep his guard up, he cant trust them anymore, thing is he actually could trust the woman at least, his lack of trust in her is what drove her away, it shows that being this way is a double edged dagger, keeps you safe because you dont trust anyone (or almost anyone) but also makes you paranoid and people dont trust you in return

I’m not sure if I’m one of minority who actually played AC1 as my first game, but seeing Masyaf covered with snow storm and Ezio as an old man who still kicking ass and not give up on finding the truth makes me feels dreary and sad. Good video! Also, I agree with the title unless the Assassin is working in a brotherhood. However, they might be physically surrounded by others, but be mentally lonely; having relationships with other assassins would help to share their thoughts. In Bayek's case, he is lonely, though he has friends, but he lost and gave up everything he once had and what he once was to protect the people's freedom. That's what being an assassin is.

I think it's almost poetic how together with that description, the video ends with a leap of faith. Like throughout the anguish and mental strain of being an Assassin, they still perform the leap of faith as a commitment to the Brotherhood. That maybe by having faith in the creed, it will give meaning to the suffering they endure. Maybe. Eh, I dunno lmao.

These games makes it easy to fast travel place to place in spans of moments, or run indefinitely without ever stopping to breath. I think if one to actually role play through a whole game and almost have a “Ghost Mode” like Ghost Recon Wildlands/Breakpoint. Setting up camps, scouting, and then even co-op? Ilife or death stakes t would be a blast
where you have to move place to place on your feet and gear up only at select places. I know it’s a stretch, but imagine setting up for a mission like you would in Wildlands, set up a came, scout the base and stealth your way in and if you get caught it’s game over. (The game over part would suck particularly for the AC style of game) but That type of thrill would be fun in an AC game.

To methe assassins always seemed like jedi, they give everything away and maintain a sort of sanity through dedication to their beliefs and self reflection/meditation . They probably get lonely but they give up most of their attachments so they learn to live with it

@@AltairStealth Ironically, how the Creed formed was similar to the Sith's Rule of Two. Before Bayek, the proto assassins were either people with personal vendettas or their own greedy ambitions. But that led to their demise and destruction most of the time. So Bayek and Amunet essentially while they don't know them, they essentially gave the Assassin ideology a new life on its own with the Creed as it formed out throughout their lifetimes with Altair and Ezio onwards following it.
With the Sith comparison, it was Darth Bane who gave new life to the Sith with the Rule of Two as the previous Sith fell victim to infighting power struggles due to the nature of their order thus allowing the Jedi to destroy them millenia before Palpatine successfully destroyed them back.

Man I hate how they made the cloth physics in the new games horrible compared to this. For me it just feels like you're running faster and seeing the cloth trying to catch the body, but in reality it makes you feel cool.Having those elements helps you in photo mode, the wind blowing between the legs just gives of the vibe of being connected to the world.Sorry for the ramble about the cloth physics but it's the only thing that pisses me off in these games plus the no hood thing.Great video made me jump back into the game again to get all the achievements.😅
