    Watch: $500 Backyard Pond & Waterfall (Winter Look) - • $500 Backyard Pond & W...
Thanks for watching! I made one of these after getting quoted more than $200 at a local pond store. You can easily build one of these yourself in about 30 minutes for less than $20.
Note: I've used a spillway exactly like this 24/7 for well over 2 years now. No leaks. No problems whatsoever.
    Have fun!
    Pond Details:
$100 Beckett (Model W1150) 1100 gph pump for waterfall
$70 Beckett (Model G535AG20) 535 gph pump for fountain.
$110 Home Depot 12'x12'PVC Pond liner
$20 Waterfall spill tank (made from office storage box)
Free Rocks and Wood (courtesy of Nevada Desert)
    $50 Perinnials from Home Depot
$50 Water plants from Oasis Water Gardens
    $100 for extra Parts/Hosing/Extras

Great video. Glad to see others object to paying unreasonably high prices for products they can build much cheaper. I am using two pumps I got off of ebay for my pond. One is a 2100 GPH pump for a fountain and the other is a 3100 GPH for the waterfall. got both pumps for under $100 per pump and locally here in Canada they are wanting up to $500 per pump. Thanks again for a great video.

I had an idea before I watched this video, while I was in Home Depot, I bought a 4" conduit pic pipe curved, and drilled holes along the top, caped the ends, and centered the hose adapter to the back side.. I haven't tried it yet, but I hope it works well..the filtration you rigged for the pump was a very good idea.. Thanks

Thanks -- conduit washer was the big payoff from watching. I have done similar things and always had to either cut fittings or whatever to get the PVC to bite the wall to make a seal.

You might not need to use any electricity in that case. From what I remember in biochemistry, water is polar, thus you can just get it going & water will use capillary action to keep flowing. In other words, if you're able to suck the water up the hose, the water should just flow because of its molecular structure. I might try that out.

@My1968Impala Yeah, I got rid of the shopping cart recently. Now I simply have the pump laying on the bottom of the pond. I have a piece of swamp cooler pad sitting on the bottom of the weir with a bag of lava rock on top. Filters just fine and looks MUCH better.

Rather than the two piece plumbing fittings I used a plastic one inch through - hull boat fitting. Worked like a charm, no leaks and no need to join pieces together. Available online or at any marine store for about 5 bucks. Thanks John, saved me 200 dollars and it looks fabulous.

I'm in the process of building a pond/stream in my yard and am working on the waterfall right now. Thank you, this is good information. I know oppinions are like @%^#$ but, if I may... I really like everything... but was thinking the steel retainer nut might rust fairly quick and I'm pretty sure they make PVC retainer nuts. Anyway, just a thought. Thanks again, I wasn't sure how I was going to do mine and now I do.

AWESOME Video!!!!! I wish I would have seen this b4 I bought mine @ the pond store - but It gives me an idea if I want 2 expand my waterfall. My pond originally started out as one of those plastic prefab jobs 9 years ago. Now it has evolved into something short of my little piece of paradise that is 2x as big, twice as deep (almost 6ft @ the deepest end) with a bridge going over the water and a (now matured) weeping cherry. I LOVE your video I know your pond it awesome now - it takes time :)

@TheBoaConstrictor95 Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. You can use a siphon to move water, but only if the destination is lower than the origin. It wouldn't work for a waterfall unless you have an anti-gravity device.

I set the tank on a solid base but It's not really heavy at all. It probably holds a couple gallons of water when full.
A multiple layer waterfall will work just fine with this setup if you get the right parts. You'd be amazed what your local hardware store would have to get the job done.
    Start digging!

I ended up combining this idea with a aeration/filtration system. Basically I stacked three of these high with the first 2 with holes in the bottom. Filled all three with lava rock with the pump water coming in at the top. Love the calming sound of the waterfall. cheers

I had to go to Home Depot for my parts yesterday because there was a wreck blocking traffic to Lowe's. HD didnt have the parts needed in 1 1/4" size, but the manager in plumbing problem-solved with me and we came up with a galvanized metal flange, a hose adapter to screw into the flange, and a hose clamp, plus silicone adhesive for affixing the flange to the side of whatever receptacle I go with. I'm thinking I might use a shallow mortar-mixing trough, tipped slightly toward the pond.

@Ricovette Thanks for the follow up. I'm glad everything worked out for you. Enjoy your pond.
FYI: I no longer have the basket sitting on the bottom of the pond. I put the swamp cooler padding and bag of lava rocks in the weir itself. Cover it with a couple pieces of flagstone and you're good to go. It looks much nicer and it's much easier when it's comes time to swap out the pad (filter).

get that thing for ur tank with the little holes and water comes out make sure thats coverd with idk (the covering is optional)put like a rock on the side of ur tank on the glass and make the sprayer thing shoot out on it (u dont need that thing u can do it with any filter but i like that 1 becuz it just rocks
(if u have that wall filter that drips down dont do anything to it)my choice

seems you have the mechanical portion worked out but aesthetically speaking its not very pleasing. I would put the pump to the right of the waterfall in its own little area hiding it with some sort of water plant. then after the pump house is in place and screened for debris with an easily removed filter trap fish guard you could do whatever you liked to the pond itself, sand and rocks like the one you used on your spillway. Overall I like your idea just need to follow through with aesthetics

I wouldn't go with anything less than 1100 gph for this particular water fall design, or any like it. I made mine from this video & tried to "guess" the pump size & have upgraded from 500 to about 700 with built in uv, and now, I'me about to finally go 1100 as I should have initially. "IF" you want to hear the heavy flow of water, go 1100 or higher. I'll try & post a vid of my pond as it is without the correct pump today.
