    That Servel fridge is cool! I follow a Facebook group about Servels. They’re great machines. Writing from the St Francois mountains of Missouri.

      Thank you for sharing. I’m gonna check out that group. Want to get it running this summer. We have been using ice for the last 5 years at our cabin down the road. Would be so nice to have a running fridge.

      If the gold mine is still there (was it a cave/shaft type?)... I'd love to see inside it! @@Cabin_Dad

      @@andrewfyakim525 I’m gonna put something together for next week. We have 4 mines on the property- but two are in rough shape and I won’t go in until I can shore up the entrance. I’ll even show some gold we found.

    Great video, I'm how you were now pre off grid. Still zillowing, was up to Montana last few days. I want all the same features. It appears to be so high demand. I need some Fi Fi prayers. Keep sharing your passion brother.

    Dad again its me. Check out the YT canal from Martijn Doolard. The second last video "Masonry Stove and Stone Stairway | Complete Build" is a "must see" to understand why this kind of heating sytem is good or better.
    He is in englisch. This guy was not a professionell but he did it professionell.
    If I understand it right- you have a plus- because your cabins have rock as a foundament and that is good for heavy duty ground oven systems. You will love the video. He is a photographer!

    Another DIY oven builder: "How to build a tiny masonry heater for the woodshop" YT
    "Mr Chickadee" He had build more then one perfect and simple oven systems old school. He explanes it slow and everyone can do it like he did. I love his teaching videos.
    As I wrote- when you have a rock-solid foundament under a cabin you could build a 1000 kilo KG groundoven without problems for the cabin.
    But some extra wood slates outside, then next bords rainproov- inside reducing the ceiling high to safe heat and build a second window from inside and shutters.
    Plus groundoven not to forgett the floor. every 5 centimeter wood boards from under the floor reduces the cold pressure into the house.

      I have to check out that video. I have seen much of Mr chickadees other stuff but not that one. I want a huge thermal battery I can store the heat from burning wood in to keep the house warm for a week. I have been thinking about a water storage system - but need to see this first. I super appreciate the sharing!

      a groundoven is a muss have in your situation. If made right- you heat 4-8 hours and have heat storage for 1 o even 2 days if enough thermal masses is created.Water storage system you could put in on of the old gold mine. There its cold enough for water storage. Temperature is importend and you need a HILTI monster or build a brick wall and create a bassin with food secure foil then you can storge tousends of liter water or more. Importend is mice secure animal secure and checking if its not poisoned by stuff and good filter systems. A overflow is also good it washes the particals from the surface and down under a ventil to clean the bassin from time to time to prefend mold or fungi on the ground COLD is the best prepp for water@@Cabin_Dad

    I'm trying to understand the claim loophole and how it ties into the homesteading? Im super interested in trying it out.

      @Cabin_Dad  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So you will have to buy an existing claim. You can no longer make new claims and turn them into property. The west is littered with these claims - if you don’t mind not having a road - they are perfect for being away from the peoples.

      Sounds wonderful. I have never tried it - and surprisingly- I don’t have any cast iron! I have found many old pots and pans - and old enamel ware seems to dominate out here. What would be a vintage brand from 1890 that would be authentic to have out here?
