When you remember how much Claudius came to hate the Rift, and how happy he was when he won it for the Empire, and no longer had to deal with his huge bounty and the crossbow guards.
Fathis bumping into a merchant who happened to have Morrowind Robes while lamenting how much he dislikes the clothes in Skyrim is such a great little moment. He rarely gets excited for things but I 100% percent believe he'd spend a bunch of money to carry a piece of home with home in case he never ran into the trader again. Waiting for him to enchant that provides a nice thing to look forward to in the future.
Preaching about compassion, mercy and sin is a weird thing to do in a pub. Doing it in a pub while 2 random drunkards brawl feels like a Monty Python sketch.
Beyond excited for the introductions of Inigo and the Legacy questline. I had a feeling that blue cat would play a part ever since the intro, with the brass giant and the ebony arrow of slaying. Approve of Fathis choosing to buy actual Dunmer clothing in a lapse of judgment; its a piece of his homeland that was so suddenly and recently torn from him. I kind of hope he wears Morrowind clothes or mage robes for the rest of the playthrough unless necessary. Think about it: go into Alteration and use the mage armor spells to buff your armor, and start doing it EARLY. The spell Ocato's Recital will automatically cast up to I think 3 spells on entering combat, and it's available relatively early from most vendors. It levels up Alteration and keeps you from having to remember to cast Stoneflesh at the beginning of every battle. Mage armor scales poorly as compared to blacksmithing? Ordinator makes spell power scale with skill level, same reason why Sparks is still semi viable at this level. The earlier you practice Alteration, the better it gets. Also, Longstride. Dual casting Longstride trivializes carry weight by just propelling you forward with X% effectiveness. It is SO much fun to use. Waterstride+Longstride makes your body an all terrain vehicle. Highly recommend. Glad you could future proof your files. I was worried with the update because I had been enjoying the series so much. I loved Claudius's series back in the day, and watching Fathis grumpily march his way through Skyrim is nostalgic to me in two different ways. Here's hoping you have as much fun with it as I am.
I'd recommend Comprehensive Sleeves Pack, for all the silly looking armor like Studded, it adds sleeves to all the sleeveless armors and makes them look a lot better
I think Alteration might be a quite fathis-ey tree, there's a bunch of stuff in Ordinator that gives it some cool metamagic style things, I think you can even unlock free novice and apprentice level casting, and there's also some cool spells that let you basically autocast stuff at the start of combat, also something that buffs your protection spells if you're not wearing armour so if you want to go the robes route that can help too. Enjoying the series as always!
14:53 The dialogue options here appear to be 1) weird, 2) judgmental, and 3) supportive. There are no options to respond neutrally or to dig for more information.
It's kind of weird that a "Vampirism is a disease, nothing more" isn't an option considering how well documented it is in academic circles. You can argue it's ONLY in academic circles and as such, a random adventurer wouldn't know anything about that... but come on. Adventuring *wizards* have been a staple of Elder Scrolls since forever.
My take on the whole fencing thing is that Fathis doesn't know what modern Nord justice looks like and is thus worried about losing his hands or head if caught with stolen goods. He also hasn't met the Thieves Guild yet, while it's one of the first factions he met in Balmora
Your final comment is absolutely on point, Dave. I remember several years ago, while watching your Oblivion series (or one of?) that I'd marvel at the way the *environment and sound design* was somehow so good at drawing you in to get lost in the world despite being quite obviously unreal... and then the gameplay elements would ruin that immersion as soon as any kind of mob/NPC interaction was called for.
That's gotta be the biggest thing I miss from Morrowind. The clothing and armor. Being able to wear a set of clothing then put on armor pieces over it. And having the various armor pieces instead of just the 'sets' here. Course, it did make you look hilarious at times, especially at the start as you mixed and matched stuff.
Classic retail wisdom for a start-up; find a niche, learn your niche, *serve* your niche. Trucking between the Rift and Windhelm with goods from Morrowind seems like a pretty decent business model given the recent diaspora. Although I agree with Dave; the guy needs some armed guards.
theres a mod i installed a while ago that just simply leaves your lockpick where it is whenever it breaks instead of resetting it. I felt it made lockpicking a lot easier without removing ALL of the difficulty. Highly recommend.
Fathis might enjoy The Velothi Palace or Tel Nalta if they port it to SE, or if he learns to live humbly something more akin to the likes of Tel Jerdein.
Even so, there's an ocean between Atmora and Tamriel. In my head Skyrim is a lot more like Denmark than Norway, in terms of latitude, with Iceland's geology.
I personally use a mod that makes items below a certain value (I set it to 100 septims) sellable to any merchant, and another that make the Khajiit caravan into fences that anyone can use. I find it to be a nice compromise between having access to basic fences (which still require some work to find), while still providing benefits to thieves guild members in the form of better and more numerous fences.
Fathis hearing "little feet" that aren't necessarily actually there? Do the words "beetle" and "Balmora" conjure up any traumas, bad memories, compulsive behaviour, etc.?
Hope your throat feels better soon! On the subject of selling stolen items, a compromise I usually go with is a mod that lets me sell stolen goods to the Khajiit merchants. Plays into the stereotypes for them I guess, but it atleast provides an option for those not in the thieves guild, or just far from a fence.
11:08 you did unfortunatly miss her opening conversation cause you backed out of the dialogue and theirs no way to return to the initial dialogue tree without reloading
Sounds like Fathis has been on a bender and had way to many Marlboro's. or for immersion sake he sat in the smoke last night around his fire. there ya go @Dave i fixed it.
I suspect after your recent "update adventures" you have no intention of touching your load order again, unless there's some kind of compelling necessity. That said, in case you do feel the urge, or you want to take advantage of any mod updates made with the new Creation Kit, you'll need Nukem's "Backported Extended ESL Support." Just an FYI, in case you haven't already come across it. Thank you for a very enjoyable episode! :) EDIT: Don't feel bad.. the spell sound confusion happened to me as well, recently... I kept hearing a subtle chiming tinkle... and it turned out to be my healing spell. I'm wondering if they increased the audio for spells, or maybe it's some mod we have in common. Either that.... or it's a case of forgetting, and vanilla spells have always made noise?
Hi Dave! I don't normally comment on TH-cam, but I was thinking. Have you thought of modding in, or asking somebody to mod in, Fathis' iconic drain health spell?
There is a mod, i have it in my load order and will need to get the name, that integrates DLC content. So that morrowind goods and wares will show up in Skyrim being sold by Dundee merchants. Sadri has things you’d find on solthsteim.
I'm pretty sure there isnt any equivalent to axial tilt since Nirn is technically the center of Mundus so the seasons wouldn't change the daylight hours. Idk what the hours should be depending on Skyrims latitude though.
Too bad you couldn't get the guards to run after that guy that gave you the boots and waltz in while they were off chasing him. That would have been amusing.
Hi. Do someone know which mod adds that beautiful clothes and the merchant? I really like them specially the dunmeri clothes but i think i have to go Solstheim to get them, but there's all that leveling thing with Miraaks gear.
Vanilla braziers can warm you,not sure about your mods.I do notice more rain and snow showers since AE.Not sure if it's seasonal though.Ambarys Rendar wrote a book I think, the one which wants a covert rebellion to attack the Nords of Windhelm, which would probably end very badly for them. The farmer you meet also doesn't want strife,he wants to earn a place in Nord society with hard honest work.(in case you are a little rusty at the lore.)Lazy design, the leather hood is just the Thief Hood, meant to hide your face a little.I agree with how bad it looks front view.Scout Hood is a bit better armor, same upgrade.
Never mind, found out they are from that "ghosts of the tribunal" creation thing. I have the AE from GOG so I suppose I could use them if I wanted to taint my game with more creation club trash. I like the robes but I don't know if I like them enough to do that, even though I do have them available with AE for free. Well I'm fairly set on my character's current attire so I probably won't install it yet if I do at all.
19:00 also don't forget that in Skyrim the first time you steal something you will have to contend with 3 hired thugs who will track you down and can be hard to deal with for low level characters
19:14 It's one of those things that I think I understand mechanically but still feels weird. They track crime independently, surely a simple "Hold" tag could mitigate some of the nonsense. 22:39 Man, I'm looking forward to all the "anyone but Azura!" Dave's gonna get from this LP. 31:12 I do find it amusing that people defend this minigame by saying it's better with a gamepad because vibration. A feature I turn off, so for me, it's always gonna be crap. 32:47 You're lucky he doesn't just end you instead. You don't know who he is. 37:02 I respect your restraint. If I was playing one of my assassin-adjacent characters, this guy'd be dead the second I saw how much he had on him. 40:55 I'm impressed how well the Nordic fur guard bits work with the Dunmer bits. 43:24 Oh, that is nice, yea. Shame I have no use for that mod. 52:16 So, as someone who frequently wears a hoodie that the hood comes way too far down: the way it peaks means he could see with this hood, for the most part, only sudden stuff would bop him in the face. When it passes your nose, you can only see your footing and the ground right in front of you.
Hey Dave super quick lore drop you probably already know mundus is not a globe but a like flat earth ring sort of surrounded by the exits of gods piercing their reality to the greater plane above. The moon is the largest of these gods who decided to break free first as they were all tricked. That's the jist of it so there isn't really an equatorial area would be hotter than the rest kinda. Just a long way to say there aren't usual seasons on a calendar XD so just like you said don't overthink it 😊
Every episode, I tell myself “wait until more are out, you hate waiting week to week.” And every episode, here I am watching it
Honestly same.
Yeah same here.
And it's even worse because it's always "Woooh 1 hour episo... Wait, why it is already over??"
When you remember how much Claudius came to hate the Rift, and how happy he was when he won it for the Empire, and no longer had to deal with his huge bounty and the crossbow guards.

Riften Guard: "Don't talk to the face sculptor in the Ragged Flagon."
[Objective Added: talk to the face sculptor in the Ragged Flagon.]
No one tells the dragonborn not to do something! Guaranteed to get the opposite outcome.
Hahahahahaha gotta love that
Ultra realism; cop tells you not to do anything and anything immediately becomes your top priority lol
Fathis actually sitting next to a girl at the bar and opening with "Come here, often?"
Preaching about compassion, mercy and sin is a weird thing to do in a pub. Doing it in a pub while 2 random drunkards brawl feels like a Monty Python sketch.
No, real preachers go where they are needed, charlatans just go where there's money, and Maramal seems like a real priest, not like the Markarth dude.
@@patricialavery8270 which Markarth dude? i didn't even know that city had any priests aside from the Arkay guy and Dibellan gals
Beyond excited for the introductions of Inigo and the Legacy questline. I had a feeling that blue cat would play a part ever since the intro, with the brass giant and the ebony arrow of slaying.

"Someone holding a torch."
Better than:
"Someone torching a hold."
"Excuse me sir, are you the smith?"
"I've always felt more like a Jones."
Levitating potion. LMAO

Ocato's Recital+Flesh Spells is the key to walking around in stylish clothes or robes roo.

I have loved the rift and falkreath just because it reminds me of Oblivions great forest
My take on the whole fencing thing is that Fathis doesn't know what modern Nord justice looks like and is thus worried about losing his hands or head if caught with stolen goods. He also hasn't met the Thieves Guild yet, while it's one of the first factions he met in Balmora
At last, My Fathis Fix! I started to suffer from withdrawal =p
Thank you!
Same

Never failed the speech check at riften i always figured you auto won it
Dave's voice this morning: "Yes... but what about, second puberty?"
Poor Rinori having a whole section of dialogue skipped because Fathis couldn't see subtitles and walked away.
My all time favorite character. Also i heard Collin in the background. KITTY!
My favorite Collin moments are when Dave is playing something without cats and there's just constant background purring of a happy cat on his lap. lol
There is a mod that makes it so Khajiit caravan merchants will fence stolen items.
Oh wow, I didn't even think you could fail that speech check, I thought it was a guarantee like getting into Whiterun.
you can fail the whiterun check too but it basically never happens because your speech needs to be lower than what you start with lmao
I love the "TRUE SONS AND DAUGHTERS" letterhead lol. Don't have money for better equipment, but they'll shell out for that good card stock.
I believe, that there is a fence anywhere perk in the speech tree, now that you've mentioned it.
The fact Fathis said "Never heard of him" about Inigo just hurts, please tell me he'll add Inigo with him.
51:30 I think argonians get a bonus to unarmed damage (?), so he probably dealt more damage with his fists than those daggers
That might make sense, given their being beastfolk. If that's the case then the level-list is at fault.
That ending with brynjolf and the lusty argonian maid😂
7:08 Colin can't believe Revyn isn't buying the claw either.
"General Good Fences" and "Valindor's Fences - A Fence In Every Tavern" are the right mods to.... er.... sell the objects you CASUALLY find
Solo Redguard merchant crossing civil war Skyrim to peddle dunmer goods...dude certainly go the extra miles for his coins.
With that hood on, Fathis looks disturbingly like Bob Mortimer.
I figured out you can get into Riften without paying the tax if you go through the Meadery.
The nighttime scenes are coming out really crisp & clear, no tearing or blocky-ness at all
Never seen the speech check for getting into riften for free fail before, that's a genuine surprise.
Fathis is pointedly *not* a charismatic person, apparently.
In vanilla you can get in through the Blackbriar Meadary's dockside door if you can't / don't pass the speech check.
theres a mod i installed a while ago that just simply leaves your lockpick where it is whenever it breaks instead of resetting it. I felt it made lockpicking a lot easier without removing ALL of the difficulty. Highly recommend.
Loving this series so far, its so good to see Fathis Back On His Bastardry.
Fathis might enjoy The Velothi Palace or Tel Nalta if they port it to SE, or if he learns to live humbly something more akin to the likes of Tel Jerdein.
I "headcanon" Atmora as a north pole continent, akin to our Antartica just flipped
Even so, there's an ocean between Atmora and Tamriel. In my head Skyrim is a lot more like Denmark than Norway, in terms of latitude, with Iceland's geology.
I'm surprised you didn't get the Growable Mushroom Home mod, considering Fathis' previous connections with house Telvanni.
Facts

DROP EVERYTHING IT'S FATHIS!
MOM!! I’ll be in my room, Sorcerer Dave just made the new Let’s Play SKYRIM video!
Fathis hearing "little feet" that aren't necessarily actually there? Do the words "beetle" and "Balmora" conjure up any traumas, bad memories, compulsive behaviour, etc.?
38:00 why not sell the robe you were wearing? The only reason I can think of is disenchantment, but mana regen is a pretty common one
Ah, the child of Baal has awoken. It is time for more experiments. Do you even realize your potential?
best daggerbuild is mehrune's razor and voldyr's lucky dagger. crits and instakills
Hope your throat feels better soon! On the subject of selling stolen items, a compromise I usually go with is a mod that lets me sell stolen goods to the Khajiit merchants. hell yeah, cozy elder scrolls time
Do I hear a Collin at 41:02?
Sadly with my sleep schedule if you tried to rob my house at 3am... you would run into me awake :p
40:53
Cat in the back : meow
:D
Fathis time is quality "me time" 😊
34:46 the clothes, the clothes! you want them.... you need them....... they are calling to you...... Fathis has killed for less.........
Very good content💯 one of my favorite TH-camrs rn💛
11:08 you did unfortunatly miss her opening conversation cause you backed out of the dialogue and theirs no way to return to the initial dialogue tree without reloading

After a a lot of G.A.M.M.A. in a short amount of time I swear I heard a geiger counter at 28:35
Hi Dave! I don't normally comment on TH-cam, but I was thinking. Have you thought of modding in, or asking somebody to mod in, Fathis' iconic drain health spell?

Wherin Fathis meets a drunk Dane putting on a bad Irish accent on the way to Riften
It's kind of unfortunate how those (probably modded?) spiders and your Sparks spell have the same noise
Man I love this series so much!
You can get Goldbrand again for Fathis from an anniversary quest
Just a fyi, when the lock pick breaks, it falls in the direction you need to go.
Yay, episode 5. Sorry to hear your under the weather hope you feel better, and that we get to see more of our favorite Elder Scrolls anti-hero soon.
Yay! Today is Fathisday!
I think I heard Colin in the background :)
If you have creation club stuff maybe Fathis would suit the spell knight armor
It's cause Mzulft is part of the college of winterhold questline
Hi.
Do someone know which mod adds that beautiful clothes and the merchant? I really like them specially the dunmeri clothes but i think i have to go Solstheim to get them, but there's all that leveling thing with Miraaks gear.
There's a mod called "Khajiits steal too". Pretty much exactly what you're looking for
WE ALL KNOW WHO HE IS!
What mod is that vendor from?
Excellent
Belethor should be a fence for everyone
Does anyone else have a very subtle static sound in the background? I’m using headphones so it kinda sticks out to me. Hope you feel better soon.
What mod adds the morrowind robes? I've never seen a mod that added those robes before.
What the mod you got for the level up perks
19:00 also don't forget that in Skyrim the first time you steal something you will have to contend with 3 hired thugs who will track you down and can be hard to deal with for low level characters
Thanks Dave.
runnin a little light on the pockets lad?
Skyrim time
16:37 how do you know you're in the posh part of Windhelm? It hasn't got shit all over it 😅
Which mod is it, that changes Fathis' hair and eyebrows to that perfect white colour??
Atheriam crown + ritual stone = King of the dead(those who know know _😏_ )
I kept hearing a cat in the background was that a mod or was it your actual cat?
I mean if you really want to have a realistic way to sell stolen goods, there is a mod that allows you to sell stolen crap to the Khajiit Caravans.
Upgrade your gear and spells and train destruction and restoration
The kitty in the background :(
I imagine Atmora being something like a northern icecap.
Man... This makes me want to reinstall skyrim
skyrim belongs to the ~~nords~~ archers
