Yes, it is clearly Simon singing, but the guitar work has Andy written all over it. He has always seemed to make the point that he wished to be a rock star. You can tell in many of their live performance, he pushes his guitar work even harder, almost as if he was screaming for attention. If memory serves, John was originally supposed to be electric guitar, but Andy wanted it so badly, he was okay with serving Bass instead. And boy was that the right choice. Play that f*ckin' bass, John, PLAY THAT F*CKIN' BASS, JOHN!
It's Andy in the beginning for sure, and Simon later at 3:36. Andy usually sang on their demos before the band gave them to Simon to write lyrics and finish the melodies :)
I prefer the released version, but thank you so much for making this vid with the unreleased version. I thought the editing was done very well *nod* How does one get their hands on demo "gems" like this?? I would think in this age of technology, it would be easy... once you find where to look. I just don't know where to look. I even suggested to Katy (their PR person) that they do a compilation album of old unreleased stuff :3 Here's to hoping they will!! MeOw!
They really polished this rough stone ... this sounds like garage band rock and roll... I'm so happy Duran works their songs over and over again until they are great...
You can tell they used this rhythm structure for "Hold Me". The final version of "A Matter of Feeling" is one of my favourite tracks off Notorious, so I'm glad they went for a slower keyboard driven track. Having said that I wish there was more guitar on the album by Andy. His absence is felt sorely.
This recording sounds like a very early song from the 1980 or 1981-Periode....JTs bass-style is clearly heard and I think this is recorded long times before 1986....
@ladymorgaine76 I always wondered about the solos on 'american science' too.. I had andy as the first solo and then warren as the second.. there's not much news on what andy 'did' play on, however warren's website does confirm a few things!
Wow, still a long way from the eventual song. Only a bit of melody and a few chords. Overall sound is like a cross between the first album and Rio, and miles away from Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Perhaps what album 3 should always have been, and more like some of the sounds on the latest album. The full on rock riff/bridge (Andy, I guess, before he was sacked?), sounds out of place, but the more prominent guitar overall works for me.
That's Andy Taylor singing actually. This song was one of his few contributions for the Notorious album. He also did the solo for American Science, and a few other things.
They had to shut Andy up all the time, coz I bet just about every Duran tune started off with r4wk guitar LOL Although the album version is miles better. But some interesting riffing on this from Andy.....
man nile rodgers was a genius here
Amazing guitar... Very catchy.... Andy Taylor was definitely a HUGE part of Duran's success musically.... Wow I love this version!
I play gtr on this, not Andy, he played on a later version at Air Studios
How can anyone say it's not Andy singing? Have you never heard his solo things?

+K1productions I agree with you there.
John switched from guitar to bass before Andy even joined. You can find this info. in John's book.
This is Andy!!! Has to be! it's his style!
After listening to this some times I'm glad they kept working on it. The album version is 1000 times better.
rock n roll andy!!
Il vero rock pop anni 80. Grandiosi. Indastrial
It's Andy in the beginning for sure, and Simon later at 3:36. Andy usually sang on their demos before the band gave them to Simon to write lyrics and finish the melodies :)
L'anima pop Roch anni 80'. Impazzisco per loro, fin da bambino. Grande pezzo questo demo! Non credo sia cantato da simon
I prefer the released version, but thank you so much for making this vid with the unreleased version.

This version is very rock orientated, like it but the album version is better :)
They really polished this rough stone ... this sounds like garage band rock and roll... I'm so happy Duran works their songs over and over again until they are great...
I loveeeeeeeeeee this version. That classic Andy guitar.
la guitarra de Andy es genial
wow. ive heard this song many times before and thought it was andy the whole time until you pointed that out. thanks!
As much as I like guitars, I like the album version better, they keyboard give more mellancolic sound to this particular song.
melancholy is the word you're looking for.
never heard this version before, thanks. and nice job on the video as well
Pra ver como a influência de um único musico pode mudar o rumo de uma música...com Andy , um Rock
Com Warren uma obra prima
pse muito diferente essa versão da Matter of Felling
🎸 The Warren Years are My favourite He is a Guitar but all round musical Virtuoso for Sure 🔥
I am loving the demos you posited. I wish I found the sooner. Thanks though!!!
Cool demo! I can never get enough of Simon and John! Woohoo, they sizzle! :)

I like this rocking -version!! The demo sound a bit like "hold me"....and I think Simon ist singing !!
that is NOT Andy singing. That is Simon through and through.

@pleasuredome85
Notorious cannot be improved. It's perfect.
✨️ Absolutely 🎸
🎶 I love Notorious My favourite of the 80s 🎵
I agree, Andy seems a lot on the guitar of this song
wow this has really changed
Wow, I actually like this better than the album version! It has raw energy.
Andy in the beginning for sure, people.

Andy play guitars in this demo!!
Hold meeeeeeeee!
Simon singing, Gerry Laffy on guitar..
..The End..
Correct
Nice version of song. It is wonderful.

wow.,.,this is awesome!.,,=D

We must agree to disagree.
Я💋
Nop, don't like it. Thank God they went for the other version to make it to the album.
Usa interference marketing and selling out andy taylor did not want to be hence this track much rocker tht is duran such a shame
You did however correctly pick the two weakest songs but they certainly do not stink.
Notorius is not so bad, but imperfact... an half of the songs are terrible: so misled, propositio.....
