Major outlets covered him because he was always saying or doing something to bring attention to himself.
They made people stop and read.
They made them buy magazines.
Buy albums.
Buy tickets.
Buy liquor.
Watch Power.
That was his marketing strategy.
And it’s worked for him.
Marketing is the most important thing you can do in the music business.
Your music can be Michael Jackson level.
If it wasn’t for Motown, we wouldn’t know who MJ was.
He would’ve been another broke kid from Gary, Indiana.

Irv Gotti admited to actively blocking 50 cent from getting signed by labels before Em & Dre signed him. Irv used to tell ppl if they signed 50 he wouldn't work with them (Murda Inc was on 🔥 at the time). That's a good reason to beef with somebody right there.
I don't even listen to music Like That. But this channel is pretty interesting, dude is hilarious 😆
Currently I have a bunch of pillars of my marketing I'm working on:
1. Upload schedule
2 weekly videos on TH-cam (1 remix, 1 single)
Daily uploads on Instagram (I'm still working on the content in order to make it more engaging)
2. I just started learning Google and Facebook ads in order to bring more potential listeners to my content
3. As mentioned in 1. I do song remixes which is mostly a verse on songs I like/songs that are poppin at that moment. The current format is one verse up to 1 minute since I put them on Instagram as well as TH-cam.
I still have a lot to learn and improve on my marketing but it's a marathon and I'm still tying my shoes. I'm happy with the progress so far and your content and analysis definitely helps out a lot!

A good song markets it's self. The trouble is that most upcoming artist don't have a good song to begin with so the keep wasting cash on marketing instead of developing their skills. I think the new word for marketing music should be EXPOSE your music. Expose to TH-cam, Facebook Ads, etc. Get 10,000 listeners. And if it is good enough, it will happen!

@Dawg Treyna There are thousands maybe millions of great songs that the world will never hear. Anything that is not marketed is a great kept secret. It simply does not exist. It does not matter how good you are when nobody knows you exists. However, what we have seen is many artist without talent sell alot of records. Some make bad song after bad song and everybody knows who they are. The skills of course should be at some reputable level but it isnt as important as marketing.
@@rushmuzik I think I am grossly misunderstood here. I never said marketing is bad or that it should not be done. I am only against the narrative that "marketing can make a bad artist successful". Which is possible, but not sustainable. I am of the opinion that you should begin by having an artist that can make very good material so that you can save yourself huge budget on marketing and let the Good song (product) do it's job. Imagine trying to spend huge budget on marketing a song like Despacito. Or Uptown Funk. Let the song do it's job. Let the song search for it's fans. If you spend more that 1000dollars EXPOSING (not marketing)a song and it doesn't gain tractions. Just forget it.. that song sucks.
@@DawgTreyna I think you were misunderstood. You are right that time needs to be invested into improving the product to be of the highest possible quality. You will see better results because of that. On the other hand alot of Good Artist who make good music expect a good song to just go out and make people like it. They make it and put it out then wonder why it isnt blowing up on the charts. Some even get discouraged and stop making good music. So, getting exposure as you mentioned is important and is the central idea. But I agree you have to keep improving your skills. Just thay talent alone wont get you there. Alot of Artist believe that their talent will get them to the big stage.

Is it possible to negotiate my deal vs just taking what I'm given? I've been watching a while and never heard advice about negotiating my deal vs Labels or are they just evil...it's just business and money.
I'd do a 360 for a split amount I agree with. If deals can't be negotiated, why force artist to have managers? If it's take it or leave it, lots of things should be different.
