Beautifully stated. I visited Leipzig for the first time in August and when the organist played the chorale movement of 140 I had to duck into a dark corner and have meself a meltdown! My day always begins with Bach and espresso. He is the true north of musicians. I went catatonic when I first beheld the slab. When I was 4, I asked my dad why I always cried when Mommy practiced Chopin and he listened to Bach non stop on the "HiFi". His answer? "You'll know someday". And, I do.
I completely agree. I made a special pilgrimage to this beautiful church in August to pay homage to the Great One who rests there. I thanked him from the bottom of my heart for what he bestowed on all us suffering humans on this poor Earth! Bless Johann Sebastian Bach forever.
Music composed by an angel, sung with an angelic voice in a beautiful church where the angel of music sleeps. I, finally, visited the Thomaskirche in August and a high point of my 70 years on Earth. Bless the great Johann Sebastian Bach forever for what he left us struggling mortals.
Ja! I travelled to Leipzig from Almere in August when my Dutch husband and I were visiting family. Being in that church was not unlike taking a trip to Heaven.
Herr Biller.
BRAVO !! BRAVISIMO !!! Monumental, wonderful, a small part of the genius-BACH. Transformed inspiringly by the symphony orchestra and this wonderful choir of remarkable children. Congratulations from Bulgaria !!!! 💝
These boys are such pros: thanks for this. Bach always lifts my spirit. I love how the soloist treble kindly looks over at the youngster he is obviously mentoring and gives a smile of encouragement at 2.31. He is obviously devoted to the music. Georg was a fantastic conductor too so precise and easy to follow. I know the last part here in the UK as the hymn “A Brighter Dawn is Breaking”
I think the soloist is actually an alto. The tradition in Germany is for boys to sing alto as well as treble, unlike in the Anglican tradition, for example.
In the 1st place, there is no "soloist" at 2:31 ! In the 2nd place, there are THREE soloists: Alto in movement 2 Bass in movement 4 Soprano and the same Bass in movement 5.
@@laurencethenewlyricist167 Which Anglican tradition is that where alto parts are not sung by boys? That must be a very recent tradition. Traditionally, English high church music did not use countertenors or female voices to sing any parts. In Germany, females voices were not used in church music until the 19th century. The tradition in both countries began in the Middle Ages and was founded on the words of St. Paul: "Women shall be silent in the church."
Bach never lets the ball drop for a second. Pure energy from heaven. And these boys are the angels.
The most exquisite music ever written. Bach is my life.

Ah - you meant the second soloist. He's definitely a treble!

Great voices, but modern instruments. Those valved soprano horns have to go!
