- We review Makita's mighty Brushless 18V Hammer Drill, the DHP481Z / XPH07. This is our second review, with a new unit and batteries. We retested and recorded, and boy were we in for a shock. Check out the write-up here: oztooltalk.com/...

After the first review which gave you so different results from the unit I have tested myself I wa so bummed !
Glad to see you are now seeing thesame results as I was =)
Wicked cool follow up guys. I'm happy that you guys did it again, I've been a little bummed with Makita and it sounds like they really hammered down and have come out with a sweet drill.
Nice follow up guys. Glad to see it lives up to the hype.
Just bought one of these Makita drills down to the fact of this great video. Thanks guys. Appreciate the review.
Our pleasure! No one could ever regret buying this tool, great choice!
Good video guys and can't wait to test out the makita myself. The Bosch did a great job by the way
Makita The best drill ,the Hulk of drills👍👍👍
Nice review guys and wow that drills a beast!! Good job!!
Well I'm glad to hear that the drill kicks ass. It wasn't so nice to hear about the technical issues you had with either with the drill or battery during the first attempt a filming the review. I guess it was just bad luck for you guys and Makita. You might want to add an annotation on the old review video to forward people to this corrected review. Another great review for OZ Tool Talk!!

Oh I didn't even know you guys put an annotation up I was just suggesting that's all. You guys though of doing it right away. I personally hide annotations because some TH-cam videos are obnoxious with them. I will re enable them if some on says there is content that is worth checking out.
so you jumped the gun on the other review...... tut tut
Mates, i brought the drill to compare with my dewalt dcd995 and i have to say its bloody good. High gear with 1 1/3 inch Bosch daredevil spade bit through 6 inch wooden beam. No worries at all mate. My dewalt stalled out. Both tools are good but mate the makita is sitting at the top of 18v drills. Haven't tried metabo but i hear the protection cut in early. Love your videos
yeah the Makita is unrivalled in power (though I suspect the new Hilti may be a competitor in performance if not price). The Dewalt is good though, and more comfortable.
***** yea mate my father in-law only uses Hilti drills and here in new Zealand they use Hilti for heavy construction. Good tools.
[Dwain] you mean the first version of this review, in which we had a faulty Makita unit? The one we deleted and went through the effort of re-reviewing?
Or do you mean the older comparison series between Dewalt, Bosch and Makita, which contained totally different models?
Just picked up one of these for $99 from a deal on Facebook tools untied. Glad I did it. After watching this
aron gard $99 !! is an insane price for this drill.
Good on ya. You will NOT be disappointed i promise.
Couldn't help but think makita had got in touch after the first video? The caps certainly added to my suspicion lol.
[Dwain] its funny, because to this day (though hopefully about to change) Makita are the only major manufacturer we still don't receive tools from. we've never heard a peep from them.
I just bought this drill in a kit and wasn't expecting so much power
Matthew Spencer its got huge power...
I love seeing rave reviews for a tool I already bought on impulse. Great review btw
Super nice video guys, seems to be an awesome machine!
By the way, nice hoodie...and did you get it?
Cheers guys
[Dwain] Thanks Ben, it is!
Good job lads. I'll get one
Great review - I'll order one.
Well done for admitting that you had got it wrong first time around.
And try to do a more thorough test so that this kind of mistake can't happen again.
[Dwain] cheers mate. We've learned a lot since 2014, one of our earliest reviews.
Great video guys, love your show best on TH-cam it is, I would really love to see a comparison between the makita and m18 fuel next Gen, I'm doing my head In trying to decide, please please do a comparison test, thanks once again for your show I love it!!!!
When will it be available in the usa?
Why didn't you run the DeWalt?
whats diferent whith the Makita XPH07Z
no difference, just different model numbers for different countries
Thanks for the info
I've had mine in for warranty 3 times as the mechanical brake on the motor slips when I tighten the chuck by hand. Yeah it has tonnes of power but the grinding sound as the brake slips is very off putting. I've tried out alot of DHP481s and they all do this. Major design flaw and it's the only Makita drill that does it.
mind reviewing the Milwaukee M28 7/16" Hex Impact Wrench
thing has 3900 in-lbs of torque, with 0-1450RPM, what cant it do?
i can't really see us reviewing any of the M28 line since it is pretty much dea. However we did just review the M18 FUEL 7/16" unit which has ~6000 in-lbs, what a tool!
How does the Makita compare to the Milwaukee M18 Fuel?
we're planning an extensive round-up soon, including both of these units. But in terms of torque, the Makita is clearly king of the hill.
***** Good to know, I'm currently torn between buying either a Milwaukee or a Makita kit, drill, 1/2" impact wrench and grinder (all brushless). Milwaukee was winning until I watched your reviews on this drill and the Makita grinder. Hopefully their impact wrench can also compete because as far as I can tell, the Milwaukee Fuel range is not suited to damp conditions.
Jim Brockie
Hi Jim, why do you say that? According to Milwaukee, their batteries are the only ones that actually drain internal condensation/fluid...
***** it's just that Makita state on their website that the tools are showerproof, while the only things Google showed me about team reds tools is that users have had problems with high humidity and moisture. That's the only reason I haven't yet purchased a kit. Cheers.
Jim Brockie ahh thats interesting. I think all the trade tools are 'shower proof'. Its dangerous making buying decision based on a few google results, as only the dissapointed tend to be vocal. I think it very unlikely that Milwaukee are any worse with moisture than others, and I think it likely their batteries are better with it. But, either way, you'll end up with some great tools :)
In december is out of guarantee and in februari the machine was broke.I buy a big combo kit in 2014.Dhp481 was the onli brushless .The impact machine with brush is used mostly. This brushless is not long run tool. The repair is 80 /100 cost of new one,at makita service.I change my mind about makita ,,brand" in general.
MAKITA!!!
Making excuses for the dewalt that quick huh

Cool :) i just bought a DTW1002Z impact wrench have u reviewed that ?
[Dwain] nah we haven't.
Alright comfortable with my purchase.
Dam! i mean 1 1/2 inch bit.
They charge 36 euro for constat damage and 186 euro repair cost, new body dhp481 227 euro.I lost trust in brand ,i pay just 36 euro constat and i take the machine back incomplete without some screw.I demand after to give me back.Them refuse to give me the detailed constat. After i insist just let me make a foto of it.Horror service experience Makita Belgium .
[Dwain] sorry to hear that Mihai
I have a makita dhp481 brusheless and after 2 years of light use the motor is kaput (stator +controller).Makita brushless motor is garbage.
[Dwain] sorry to hear your experience. Is it covered by warranty?
