I saw your ruler's on tutorial videos by Jennie Doan at Missouri Star Quilt Company. She didn't show us how you can use the ruler to turn the block. I LOVE THAT!!! So glad I looked you up.
Would you please have a right hander demonstrate the quarter square triangle use? I keep getting three perfect corners but the fourth is off by almost 1/4".
Just bought the 6.5” ruler. I have a bunch of HSTs ready to trim, all with seams pressed open. I was disappointed that this does not “lock” onto open seams. 😢 it still works by using the diagonal line. I’ll have to make some more blocks and amend my pressing. Perhaps I could press to one side, trim, then press open. The pattern I’m working with calls for open seams and I really do like how the open seams lay flatter and it seems I’m less likely to lose my points. I still don’t know why they are sooo expensive, over $30 for a 6.5” piece of plastic seems pretty steep for me.
Since no one responded to you and I have the same question, I'll share my observation from the video. First, it looks like the units are made a full inch larger than needed. Second, it looks like she gives a 1/2 inch over the desired finished size for the first cut and then squares up on the second. Since most of us will not end up with units this large, I would suggest that you follow basically the same formula for any squaring up. For me I tend to either be really close to the desired size or maybe a bit under. Assuming that most folks are a tad over, not as much as hers here, just place it to the desired size and trim. I could be wrong as I don't actually own one of these yet but if you are really close to your desired size, it seems to me to look like you would follow the standard rules of any ruler being used to square up. This one just keeps you from slipping and makes it super easy for trimming both sides without having to lift the ruler and re-position. Hope this helps!
+Karen Edmondson - You may have already found out how, but in case you didn't, Here are a couple of YT videos that show how to use this ruler if you are right-handed: “Bloc Loc HST Video”, th-cam.com/video/sNSZ3RetStU/w-d-xo.html, or try this one: “Half Square Triangles Using Bloc Loc”, th-cam.com/video/Ff-Kj24Y6-Y/w-d-xo.html
@Elaine McAtee I've found there is no need for the blocks to be "quite a bit larger". Many times, I only need to trim two sides of the block. As long as you're lined up to the correct size and everything is straight, that's all you need to do. Don't get hung up on "having" to cut all four sides.
Not quite as easy as it looks, the ruler slides when you begin to cut. Just have to get the hang of it, cool ruler. The key to the ruler is to make your hst's quite a bit larger than what you need as a finished size. Mine were not large enough for the ruler to work like it does on a larger square.
Could you please show this "how to" video with a "right-handed" person? It is very cumbersome being a right-handed person trying to learn this from someone who is left-handed...VERY frustrating and confusing!

not sure if this ruler works as the LEFTY demonstrator has me totally turned around... Need to re shoot the demo with a RIGHTY doing the demo to ... tutorial gave me a headache ....there are more you tube videos that help better ...
Thank you so much … your logo on low side (side without seam) is best advice ever ! 🤗
Finally! a demo for a lefty!
I just completed a quilt top, using my new Bloc Loc ruler. Game changer! So happy I found you.
This is one of the best quilting tools I've ever purchased. Couple it with a rotating mat and HSTs are a breeze.
Perfect explanation! Thank you!
Wow, finally a ruler i can use to square up with no confusion. Thank you.
I've had my Bloc Loc for a few years but only now just started a HST quilt and it is FANTASTIC! WORKS SO WELL! I love it!
I love my Bloc-Loc® rulers and Paul was so generous. Thank you Bloc-Loc®

Why didn't I think of this??? Such a cool idea!!
guess i should have watched this tutorial BEFORE i incorrectly trimmed 40 hsts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL thanks...great information...

Yes! Would love to see this demonstrated by a right handed person.
Wow, are they available in New Zealand? And finally a lefty, now you righties know how we feel 😜
Hi and thank you very much for the great tutorial! This is a wonderful tool! Happy holidays! 😎🌸🎈🎄
I like this square ruler!
Perfect Thank You, I made 2 practice but didn’t feel right, I knew white on lettering side. Now I can do it right!! Hopefully
Can you use the block loc without opening up the hst?
Mine came with the middle strip facing the wrong way. Can I pull it out and place it so it faces the front
Mine came that way also. I asked the same question and no one answered me either

You didn’t mention the size you are using for the demo
Im confused on the quarter square one. When you said put on the size you want i couldn’t tell what size you’re doing
So how do you know you're not cutting too much off your first 2 cuts, before you turn HST around for last 2 cuts?

The ruler shows you that you are over on the bottom as well. I saw it done at a show as I thought the same thing but it was easy
What is the tool you are cutting with?
Rotary cutter
how does it work with the seam allowance pressed open?
It needs that slight ridge to lock on. I tried it with an open seam but not the same
How would these instructions differ for a right handed person?

Solves the dog ears too without having to cut into a little slot.

The tutorial is great, however you cut with your left hand so we "righties" need to reverse the process!
A bit confusing at first as I am not a lefty !!!

That's the story of my life being a lefty!!!!

Now you know how us lefties feel hahaha
I just paid a very ridiculous £80 something pounds for mine on Amazon. Guess I’m paying for your luxury lifestyle.
